Here is MSC's new, official worldwide policy (incl the US) on medical screening at the ports, which is being put in place to try and prevent passengers with potentially dangerous contagious viruses like H1N1, from coming onboard... this system WILL BE in place in November for ShipRocked.

Prior to embarkation, all MSC guests will complete a questionnaire utilized by all cruise lines through CLIA (Cruise Lines International Association) detailing their current medical status. Should their responses indicate that they could potentially have the virus, they are then seen pier side by the ship’s medical personnel. In addition, all MSC vessels are equipped with thermal imaging equipment A guest with an elevated body temperature is referred to the ship’s medical staff. The staff will evaluate the guest’s condition and has at their disposal “rapid test” kits to aid in the diagnosis of suspected illness should they need it. Based upon this test, if positive, the guest will be denied boarding for medical reasons as a precautionary measure for the health and safety of all guests and crew onboard.

MSC Cruises strongly recommends that guests purchase insurance for their cruise as any denied boarding for medical reasons is a non-refundable cancellation. The only recourse for a refund would be through the proper insurance policy. Most insurance policies cover medical cancellations unless the specific medical condition is considered a pandemic, in which case, some policies will not cover a refund.

Since hand washing is one of the easiest front lines of defense, MSC has upgraded its hand sanitizers in the public areas of the ship. In addition, we have introduced a “how to stay safe” video aired in the staterooms to educate guests on the importance of hand washing.

SO, to sum up:

1. Try to stay healthy between now and the cruise
2. Buy travel insurance
3. Wash and sanitize your hands often onboard
4. Watch the in-room video about staying safe and healthy

But most importantly...

5. SAFELY ROCK YOUR ASSES OFF!!! ..,,/

ShipRocked is very excited to announce the addition of Baltimore’s Niki Barr Band to our 2009 lineup! Niki and her band emerged like a diamond from the rough out of the hundreds of truly great artist submissions we received via our Sonicbids event listing. So get ready ShipRockers… because this November, Niki is bringing her amazing voice, kick ass band and tremendous stage presence onboard to rock your faces off!
NIKI BARR BAND
Website: nikibarr.com
MySpace: myspace.com/nikibarr
Since the age of 13, Niki has known exactly what she’s wanted out of life – abnormality! Music was her crutch in her small hometown of Denton, MD. She started playing at venues all over MD when she was a teenager with just an acoustic guitar, then on to an electric and started a high school band. She met her manager, Mike Marucci, through some of those shows, and he eventually introduced her to producer, Jim Ebert (Butch Walker, Marvelous 3, Meredith Brooks). Jim and Niki have worked together on a few records: ‘The Other Side of Me’ (EP), ‘Lush’, and ‘Go’ (EP). ‘Lush’ was her first full-length record, which included some co-written songs with Butch Walker, The Matrix, Wizardz of Oz, Mathew Gerrard, and Stephen Lironi. The single ‘Wasted Time’ became the #1 single on Sky Radio in the UK for over 6 weeks. Soon after, she released ‘Go’ from an EP and it managed to sit atop Sky Radio for over 8 weeks in the UK.
Niki’s solo act morphed its way into a ‘band’ and together, the band wrote, recorded, and produced their latest EP ‘Bloom’ as the Niki Barr Band. In support of the records, NBB has been fortunate to share the stage with Joan Jett, Paramore, The Offspring, The Cult, Papa Roach, Shinedown, Puddle of Mudd, Third Eye Blind, and Red Jumpsuit Aparatus. They’ve also toured internationally with the Armed Forces Entertainment, performing for the US Troops in the Middle East, Japan, UK, and many other countries throughout Europe and Southeast Asia. The tours brought the band support from Billboard, Rolling Stone, The Wall Street Journal, Time Magazine, and NPR Radio’s “Border Crossings with Larry London”.
As of late, the band is spending their days writing songs for the new record, which they hope to release by the Fall/Winter of 2009!
