Captain Anstis is no more. As much as i'd love to work with Paul again, i think he's just too damn busy, he's about to become a bobby in Yorkshire, so the best of luck with that. Al Daw got himself a placement in Manchester, so unfortuantly no bass from him :(

Jamie and i have joined forces with Dave and Rusty from what was The Syzygy, we've added Nick Yule to the fold and we're creating something new, so look out for that.

Thanks to everyone who supported CA, especially Walter from the Brickyard for giving us gigs even when hardly any cunt showed up! Thanks to Lauren for taking photos of our awful faces, thanks to wayne john and jules for being our number 1 supporters (only?...). Thanks to everyone who's ever said a kind word to us, listened to our music, or looked at our faces, we learned a lot.

Hopefully see you all around.

We're going to be reforming Captain Anstis, its a few months off yet, could be as many as 6, but we're going to need some new members. Pauls out, we're currently just me on guitar+vocals, alastair daw on bass (maybe, hopefully), and jamie on drums.

Ideally what we need is a rythm guitarist, possibly a singer if someone has the balls to do it, and a string section. So if you play guitar/sing/violin/cello/etc and you think you might be interested, get in touch with me. I'd rather play with people i know/semi know than total randoms. I've got a load of random new material ive been writing if you wanna see if its your kind of thing.

The band is over, for the time being at least. Due to work commitments Paul is unable to continue working with us.
Not sure what we're going to do yet.
Thanks to everyone who's been supportive.

I spent many many hours last night finishing the mix so hopefully it now sounds alright, but everyone take a goosey and let us know what you think.

Captain Anstis - EP Review

Lets face it most bands are shit! So it's refreshing to find, the dog's bollocks. I bumped into these 4 four Carlisle based headcases on Myspace. This is what the internet is about, finding great music that no one has heard yet, then spreading the word. Captian Anstis remind me of a heavier Jesus Lizard - I'm sure Steve Albini would relish recording this lot.  They brandish a unique mix: screamo vocals dueling with rock melodica. And they are doing it with the taste of a band beyond their years. The arrangements propell the songs forward so you are never waiting for a good bit. My favorite is probably "Bare Bones" - a quick snare roll then we are racing round the track in a suped up Suzuki - and it still manages to link to a catchy, drifting chorus line.  Fucking Genius! There's definatly metal influences in here but the production leaves room for everything to breathe so it feels more punk to me. The guitar sound is snakey and sharp, (I loved the Tom Morello style Whistles) the drums are relentlessly tight and pounding and all this is supported by a mid range bass vice-locked to the groove. The vocalist sounds at times on the verge of vomiting - (not in a phoney LA way) - I'm sure they must have left some sick on the studio floor.  This is manically energetic, cathartic, dense rock that I can only imagine would have you sweating in seconds at a gig. The last line from "Walk the Plank" could well be phophetic "Don't Worry We Made It" I am sure they will!

Heres the text:

Captain Anstis are a four piece hardcore metal band from Carlisle, England, formed in 2007. With their name originating from the legendary pirate Thomas Anstis, this was the foundation on what to play and how to play it – “It’s what would have happened if you gave 18th century pirates on galleons electric guitars” – taken from their website.

Their debut EP titled “Good Fortune” (which was also the name of Captain Thomas Anstis’ pretty boat…ship) shows a good grounding of gritty guitar sounds, heavy pounding drums with hardcore vocals. From the start to the end of the EP, it’s a non-stop overview of what the buccaneers are about. Stand out tracks would have to be the crowd favourite “Ice Breaker” or “The Ice Breaker Session”. A music video is planned for the near future. The EP production quality isn’t that brill, but it’s a DIY-er, and for a new band on the scene it’s not bad. I think they have a promising future, and my only advice is to take no prisoners and give nothing back…and play loud.
