Sunday's show at The Habitat was mentioned in San Diego Citybeat today: http://sdcitybeat.com/cms/story/detail/all_that_is_night/7723/"As they ran through a set of songs with perfectly timed keyboard arrangements, and mastermind Joey Barro playing the part of stoic frontman, I often kept thinking how accessible the music sounded—as if the band was one phone call away from an iPod commercial."

The Captain Obvious blog was nice enough to write about the upcoming album: "By the time the uber-infectious album closer "I Know My Ocean" rolls around, Barro has covered the spectrum from electro-experimental to poppy folk ditties to the soulfully foreboding "No Self Portrait," which oozes enough cool to make it fitting for the soundtrack of a Scorsese flick. With Season To Season, Barro proves to be a songwriter worthy of some much-deserved attention." http://www.thankscaptainob..vious.net/2009/01/traditio..nist.html

The Traditionist - Live at Echo Curio - January 23rd While waiting for The Traditionist to arrive, I was standing in a very small bohemian store in the heart of Silver Lake/Los Angeles called Echo Curio. It almost felt as if you were in someone's living room because there were small paintings hanging up on all four corners of the room, except they all had prices tags. Nevertheless, I was excited that my first time seeing the The Traditionist was going to be an intimate one. The room began to fill with a very artsy and unorthodox crowd: a girl with bright blue hair, a man with a long-red-scruffy beard. As the room began to fill, so did the sidewalk in front of the venue, with people drinking from their brown bagged liquor bottles. The band had arrived and blended right into the crowd. Once they plugged in and were ready to “folk,” the lights dimmed down very low and Joey (front man) began to hypnotize the crowd as he played his guitar. The opening song started with a soothing guitar melody which was slowly layered with Joey’s lullaby/story-telling singing style that made you feel as if you were hovering over the cityscape of Los Angeles, then to the beach, and back. 2 minutes into the tune: bass, keyboard, and drum began to fill the room to brim with a triumphant sound, releasing a glorious sense that everything is going to be grand. The song then gradually descended, returning the audience to earth. And this is just the beginning . . . The intimacy of Echo Curio coupled with The Traditionist underbelly folk sound was an epic excursion through emotion and thought. Catch them when they come to your town and prepare yourself to mentally surf the waves of The Traditionist.
