So, just cause we are silent here on this web internet 21st century stuff doesn't mean we aren't busy concocting evil plans and dreaming up new schemes...as it happens, there is a new band with a new record secretly featuring two members of the TBs (It's still secret if we just share it with you guys, right?)...NOT what you expect, but you cannot deny that you like...

...drum roll please...

The Makeup Sex

Photobucket

Which two guys and what instruments? You'll have to go find out for yourself and become their friend! Tell 'em what you think.

And there's even more busy going on, let me tell you! Leaking a little word let me just mention Years Around The Sun, Greg Friedman, Atom Orr, Wirepony ...and YES...there IS going to be an new Truckee record featuring our 4 brothers back in the trenches together in 2009, but that rumour can wait...

First you gotta go have some Makeup Sex. You KNOW you like it! I'm waaay into Makeup Sex myself...

And now the waiting. It's the hardest part. Until the morning. Will we get out of here with our shirt? Will the vehicle still run? Will we be able to deadhead it straight to Texas for the next date? 20 hours straight, splash our faces and hit the stage? We'll see in the morning light.

heck let's just go find some good food and enjoy the Southern California evening air.

Stay tuned TB lovers. Stay tuned...

One mile away from the Golden Acorn...
cady - 07.02.08

So we're driving…driving to Austin, TX…then the temperature warning light goes on….then the oil light goes on…then a funny smell….then white smoke…then car stops moving…then the phone call to AAA…

"Where are you at?"
"I don't know. The friggin' desert."
"Okay…we'll be there in 15 minutes."
"15 minutes? Really? But you don't know where we're at?"
"We'll be there in 15 minutes.."
Two hours later…we're picked up. We had two highway patrol pass us without stopping. We had a guy on a motorcycle stop to see if we were okay. We also had a young 19 old guy stop and asked if there was anything he could do. I him told no thank you we had AAA, told him he was awesome to stop and he said "Naw…it's my job." He pointed to the USMC on his T-Shirt.

Wow. Semper Fi my friend…Semper Fi…

One mile away from the Golden Acorn Part II...
cady - 07.02.08

It turns out we were one mile away from the Golden Acorn Casino…damn…we could've broke down there…we could've won $60,000! I know we would've! Damn.
Instead…we got searched at the border patrol…

"You have anything you need to tell us before we search and find it?"

"Nope. We're clean. We took showers and everything…"

Writing from a humid hotel room in Houston. Early morning for us, but the first one where we've got more than 4 hours sleep for two weeks. Wouldn't you know it but my body won't let me take advantage now. Too used to the daily push and the long early drives. Sleeping on the back van bench and laughing my arse off at Poltz going through the mountains of Oregon shooting morbid photos of us all and Cady shaking the Zorba Dance for a waitress the other night at Poltz's insistent request. So glad for the time off we'll have this afternoon after a radio interview.

Amazing shows and fantastic people already along the way. In fact it's the "Tour of Good People" without a doubt. Greune Hall the other night, oldest dance hall in Texas, Momo's in Austin, Sacto and Kepi and Friends on the bill, Eugene and Fred Van Vactor, Portland and Santa Cruz going off, San Fran and Tim Bluhm joining us onstage for a Gimme Shelter style version of Poltz's "Rains' and Fritz at the Connecticut Yankee supplying me with a stack of used frying pans that now are part of my drum kit. Great genuine people everywhere we go. Fans, friends and strangers. Makes you realize that CNN is full of shit. There is a great positive human spirit all around us that can't be squashed by politic, media or economy and hope in every face we meet. I am humbled more each day.

Had a couple odd questions from some folks who haven't been at these shows though asking whether the TBs are breaking up. Whether we are still a rock n roll band. If we are nuts and taking steps backwards going out on the road with Steve Poltz for so long as a two piece. All I can say to them is go see a show. All your questions will be answered in spades.

Strange questions to me, but then I forget that maybe we get lost in our own little world and don't tell everyone what we're up to, and for some folks they want their musicians to remain familiar and a particular kind of band. We are still 4 lads on a hunt for the music of the spheres and committed to each other, but this is a need and an opportunity to find even more inside us as writers and performers. Cady and I are honoured at the chance to meet great new people and sing them a song or two and to be entrusted with Poltz's best ever tunes live. I've been in punk bands, sung Louvin Brothers songs, grown up listening to Beatles and Cheap Trick, been immersed in Dylan and The Damned and don't give a shit about genres and what audiences we're supposed to be shooting for or what is smart for us to be doing. For me all it's ever been about is connecting with good average people like us. THAT makes it all worth it and is the only reason for all this. Ain't no doubts in us. The rock is dirtier, the band stronger, the music growing, and Poltz is reborn as a frontman when we are the Cynics. Crowd surfing, band turning on a dime laying the groove that sends him off on a ranting frenzy and a building confidence in the TBs that there are no limits on what we can and will do. I for one have never done anything for the money, kudos or business angle (just look at my bank balance) but only for the things and people I love. Poltz and Cady are two of those folks. And Poltz's music is beautiful. Forget what you think you know about him. And the TBs are just coming into their own. Just come see one of these shows, then we'll talk.

More adventures to come, and tonight it's Houston. Come on out and join us.

We're in the middle of a two day journey to Texas…I'm in the back of the van…it's dark, late…my eyes closed but I still can see occasional flashes of light and color behind my eyelids, recalling the tour so far, the places, people, and the shows. It seems as if I'm getting to know the universe one face, one place at a time. Slowly, slowly being revealed to me. I'm in motion, like a rocket going outward, forever outward. No going back.

The van rocking me like a cradle, I'm in a fetal position, cold, bundled up. Cold like outer space…well…not as cold as outer space, but you know what I mean. I know where we're going, but I don't really know where we're going…

If you've read any of my rants…you know I hate clowns. So…what do we do? We eat breakfast at Pancake Circus. Ugh…everything I feared except thankfully the waitress was not dressed as a clown.

When you're on the road…food choices are critical. One bad move and you're incapacitated for days. So for the Pancake Circus…I'll get two scrambled eggs, a plain waffle, grapefruit juice, and hot water for my own tea. Yep…it was a good call…I'll live to eat another day.

Our road manager Chris has more hatred and fear of clowns than myself. He didn't order any food, and even left to go sit in the van.

Peat and Steve thought our creeped-outedness was funny. Steve even bought a Pancake Circus t-shirt to commemorate the occasion. Does anyone know what the specific psychological fear of clowns is called? CreepyClownaphobia?

So…we're walking into Sam Bond's Garage for our show in Eugene, OR and I walk up to the stage and what do I see? A happy little plastic squirrel in the middle of the stage. He looked at me like "Hey Cady! Take me with you, I love the road! Besides, I have magical powers!"

Well, what does one do but say, "Um…Okay."? So I put him on top of my keyboard for the whole show, and when it came to packing up and leaving, I looked around and stole it. Yep! I took it. He's ours now! He asked us to take him and we did.

We've had good luck ever since…and as for magical powers, he apparently stopped Steve's incontinence and he was saved. Hence, the christening of "Squirty the Squirrel, Patron Saint of Incontinence and Weird Bands".

Long Live Squirty….we love you!!!!

cady truckee

Whew!
Our first 2-Cylinder Truckee Show in years…Peat and I playing in Seattle at the awesome Tractor Tavern! Hmmm…Truckee's and Tractors…sounds like a Ho-Down! *laughing* Buck Owens and Roy Clark it wasn't. More like "Rock beats Paper"!

I'm glad we got the first of many 2-Cylinder Shows done…got that under our belt, and we can start some kung fu fighting!

The crowd was very cool and open to us 2 Truckee freaks playing instruments for an 8 piece band. We made new friends and had new adventures. Gotta love that damn Space Needle. Y'all know that's a real flying saucer on top don't you? It's true. Tonight we're gonna take it for a spin 'cause Peat knows the captain and you gotta fly them every once in a while so the battery doesn't go dead…
