Current mood: chill
For those of you who still actually USE this thing...
as the academic year is drawing to a close and i have more time to devote to frivolities like my rock band. The pHoTon baNd's inner circle of self-serving ne'er do wells have been such chipper lads, tolerant of my ever changing 'tudes, and their hard work deserves acknowledgement.
So this is the first in a series of pHoTon baNd blogs for '09.
I've posted some new youtubes to the page.
But hey! Guess what?
Why even bother clicking on the icon that leads to our profile, putting some water on for tea, falling asleep, setting the house on fire and forgetting to file your insurance claim while the page takes its usual eternity to load (despite your high speed connection), and then scrolling down, and searching on the right side of the screen for them, when you can actually view them right here in this bulletin?
The incomparable Scot Colan made this one, of our happy sounding, but utterly bitter to the core pop song (from 2008's "Back Down to Earth"), "Where Did the Love Go?" Good show, Scot. You're a genius of such Magna Cartic proportions, I don't know what to accrue with you.
Oh, hi...are you still here? then click on it and listen to it while you watch. That's what you're supposed to do with these things.
There's also this live performance from JohnnyBrendas of an as-yet-unreleased song called "PosiVibe" that will surely serve as an instruction manual of sorts for those of you who, like me, have been laboring under the false assumption that continuing to bring the love (and trust) in times of crisis will actually make things better.

We love you, Philadelphia. 9.30, Brown Recluse (don't miss it, old people, you love these kids and don't even know it yet). 10.30, Audible (the smooth solution to your troubles) 11.30, pHoTon baNd (mentally challenged, bald beatles working out personal problems, petty grievances, and cosmological ponderings through song)

Current mood: indescribable
dear you,
another never before released tune -- called "cat on a branch" -- is up in our snocap boutique (that's it's the *second* snocap window, the one below the part that says "about pHoTon baNd").
recorded in late march of 2004...all acoustic, all one take...the first thing i ever made with garageband, using the pinhole mic on the G4.
this song is sad.
i mean it's really fucking sad....about a friend who couldn't get comfortable in his own skin...
i'll post it in the player so you can get a taste before you buy.
and by the way, those of you who have bought these little demos and home recordings i'm posting, thank you. thank you very VERY much. it's nice to know people are willing to plunk down a buck to hear it.
more to come...
love,
me.

number 1: i'm a doctor now. number 2: we're playing out in august (let's storm the m-room on august 22d). New Yorker's take note: piano's on the 23rd. number 3: we're recording again. number 4: .... number 5: ......... number 6: this is a FUCKED UP, beautiful world we live in, filled with hate, ignorance, and frequent displays of breathtaking magnificence. 6a: you can spend a life time trying to learn how to spot the difference. 6b: let the latter in, and banish the former to the land of wind and ghosts. number 7: obama's not a muslim. now that we're back from the academic abyss, we, the photon band, re-dedicate ourselves to the sincere, the real, the lonely hearted, the true, the lovers, and those who hate the haters. new songs, new albums, impassioned performances...everything is forthcoming and the past is what lies before us. no more kings!

??°?ˆø¨¥†?†¥......
are you tired of sexpills that don't work? well....
our 2001 release, "alone on the moon" (previously a vinyl-only release on darla) has now been digitized.
(and for more good musics, take a look at both www. darla. com and www. empyreanrecords. com...THESE are the places where music still lives, free of corporate concerns and imperial ambitions)
though it 's classified as an ep, it's a full-length: at 37 minutes worth of musica, how could we call it anything else?
this music crept out of the ground and grew its way onto my tape machine
on hot, slow summer days
and
long fast drives through wooded knolls in the middle of cool summer nights
in pre-9-11 u.s.a..
for the digital realm, i've remastered it.
I've even uncovered a previously unused backing vocal track on the title tune's chorus.
now, we go shimmering right for the center of your sad, lonely, wistful, just-woke-up-from-a-dream-that-told-me-everything-i'll-ever-need-to-know soul.
i've also included a bonus track called "mahogany row".
have at it, folks.
we'll be back this summer for more shows and more ªº¥©¥ø©ç?˜=°æ?......
love, (((((((((photonband)))))))))))

for real...
@ Johnny Brendas, this Friday, Feb. 8th. When you're done with Cat Power, come see us...
with the Novenas (at 9.30): Amy is so psychic that she wrote a song about Tigers roaming around in the park before Tatiana freaked out. (http://www.myspace.com/thenovenas check out "search engine" for the true pop sweetness)
Canadian Invasion (at 10.30): they have "woohs" in their songs. (http://www.myspace.com/atcoghost)
and then us (at 11.30).
We're going to have copies of the new album on sale, and we'll play songs you've never before tasted, as well as surprises from the old bag of tricks.
come out to see this stuff. we will be forever indebted, and you can pop in on me at any time and sleep on my couch as a result.
stay warm.

Kids,
it's happening....
"Back Down to Earth"...
((( - our first full length since 2003's "It's a Lonely Planet" - ))))
comes out on Tuesday, January 22.
For a preview, check out the first three songs on the player:
We've posted:
a. the title track II. an instrumental called "Ka-Blammo" 3. and for extra good pucks, one of the album's more poppington toonceses, called "Where Did the Love Go?".
So, uh...there ya go.
This sampling should give you *some* idea of the variety and heh-vee-ness on this platter, which we have designed to weigh tons by the cubic nan-o-meter. So support your local record retailer by going to the store and buying the hard copy.
And don't forget your dolly for transporting it from the curb to the cab: like i said, it's HEH-VEE.
Love, lour biggest fan,
Bluesy Sleepy

A telegram from outer (and inner) space:
We are coming back down to earth. Here's why. Space sucked. You people think you've got it so bad down there, but really, you're wrong: we didn't have Justin Timberlake or Christina Ricci, or Meg White's sex tape in space. Capiche?
Our program is as follows:
0. New song demo, "Pretty Lies" (so new it's not even on the forthcoming album!). Buy it! The price of gas is outrageous on your planet, and it's not like we're gonna be able to get jobs at McDonalds the second we land! Sheesh!
1. New song from forthcoming album (see number 2) on player. Title track, in fact, though not necessarily reflective of the style of the *entire* album (see number2).
2. Who does number 2 work for? Forthcoming album, entitled "Back Down to Earth", which features the usual variety of emotional twists and turns, will be issued in advance of our return, on January 22, thanks to Empyrean Records. Just buy it, would you? Or just come over and give me all your money.
3. Gigs marking our return: Feb. 1st, Washington D.C. ("take me to your leader!") at the Red and The Black, and then...
3a. Feb. 8th at JohnnyBrenda's with Canadian Invasion.
4. More gigs to come.
You want more info?
Lighten up, Francis.
WE stream information incrementally.
Get back to doing that thing you do...and thanks, as always, for being so great at being whoeverthefuckyouare!!!!
Love, Art
