Well it's been a while and i have to say that i've seen it and done it and now it's time to take some down time. the summer is over and after years and years of traveling the world as an ambassador for my city, i am taking a little break from djing. i will still do dj dates here and there but now my main focus will be back to making music. me being in the studio has taking a back seat because i'm always in the seat of an airplane for the past years. i've played great tracks and great parties but now that i'm a little burned out from hoping on planes every week to every other week, it is time to focus on what got me here in the first place and that is making music that my fans miss. at this moment i am working on the final mixes for my upcoming releases and releasing music from new artist as well as doing some remix work for some very interesting projects. can't say too much, but i must say that you will be thrilled in what i have planned for the upcoming months.
stay tuned sp

let me start out by saying that i can’t believe that RADIO SKOOL’S 1 year has pass so fast. it took a year to get here and it came and went, especially with all the pre-planning and me being a promoter this pass year which is new for me. if you read my very 1st blog about RADIO SKOOL in feb of last year, you could tell things were looking positive for the year to come. i won’t bore you with the way things have been but let me say this... "Happy graduation goes to all the 1st year students of RADIO SKOOL".
yes we moved classrooms (venues) so it could be a lil more intimate because i needed to have a little more hands on approach for my 1st year residency. i’ve used myspace to it’s upmost capability to help with with spreading the word about my monthlies. why not...? that’s what it’s here for right? and i’m gonna use it too. we have always stuck to our guns no matter what the obstacles were and brought you QUALITY dance music and parties, something we do too far less here in the city. so march 8th came and we were all set to go, keep in mind that i went to amsterdam on thursday march 6th and come back on the morning of march 8th in less than 40 hrs to get back so i won’t miss my own anniversary party.
i got back and then the snow started and i’m like damn... "2 months of planning and it has to snow on this day"? i knew from that point it was going to be tricky especially because i was flying in our guest dj Mr.V from NYC. it was nerve racking to be in this situation because it’s usually the other way around, i’m usually the one stuck in the airport trying to get to the gig and my flight is usuallly cancelled so the tables were turned now. to make a long story short, Mr.V’s flight was cancelled as were all flights to detroit from JFK, Laguadia and Newark. at that point V called me and said "dude i’ll take the amtrak" now that’s a dedicated dude right there but i told him that it take’s 12-14 hours, so hats off to Mr.V for wanting to go that extra mile to get to detroit.
so now as it stands... Mr.V was cancelled not to mention that daylight savings time was going in effect @ 2am so we lost an hour so, myself and my cuz mike brown had to hold it down, i put a sign up at oslo that read "Mr.V is cancelled due to weather but the show must go on", and it did!!! i played for the first hour so i could release some stress of traveling back from amsterdam and the fact that my special guest was not gonna grace us with his presence. mike took over while i took over the light show (which is equally important) and mike rocked it too. we had a nice diverse crowd which is one of our main goals, it does not matter who you are, LET’S JUST PARTY DAMNIT! i played the last hour and we had the second shift of people to come in after 2am and it took the party to the next level. everyone was giging their ass off, that’s how we do it at RADIO SKOOL.
the sound, the lights, the atmosphere and the music were all on point. periodically i get on the mic to connect with the people and to tell the few wallflowers their that you can stand at the bar but when you come to the dance floor, you better come correct or you’re ass is gonna get detention cause i’m the teacher LOL!!! anyways the night ended an hour early which sucks but RADIO SKOOL’S 1 yr anniversary ended on a high note, the dancefloor was still packed, people didn’t want to go home, and that’s good because, not too often you could end a night and people are screaming and wanting more!
stay tuned for the kick off of our sophomore year at RADIO SKOOL @ oslo with the return of shawn michaels and my cuz mike (hot & funky) brown on april 12th. i’m not gonna be there for this one, i have to go on tour but i feel good about what we’ve accomplished and the brand of RADIO SKOOL that it can stand on it’s own and still be a good quality party, don’t worry i’ll be back for the may 11th RADIO SKOOL and i am in the process of rescheduling Mr.V very soon, we’ll keep you posted.
btw... for all of you who were there last week and the previous nights at RADIO SKOOL, show us some love, give us feedback, let us know how we’re doing, we wanna here from you. show some love on the comments pages on myspace.com/radioskool and on this one as well.
until next time... peace sp

the end of 2007 is upon us and 2008 is almost here and the time has come for me to take a back seat for the moment and reflect on the years that has passed and the year ahead. for me it has been a very interesting time doing what i do and getting a chance to see what i've seen over the years. i've seen trends come and go, seen the world a hundred times over, got a chance to see things that people dream of seeing, meeting some crazy individuals along the way as well. i've also over the years had some good times and bad times in which they've made me a strong (even stronger) person depending on the circumstance. i've made some good close friends and i value their friendship also. some music friends, some personal friendships that have nothing to do with the music biz and all that, taken trips with them, had wine, food, good conversation and spoke about what's going on in todays world that we live in. it seems as though the more i travel and do all of these things, the more i realize the big picture and not too many of us seems to realize certain things that are priceless and also things we take for granted, like... being able to see, (the world), being able to FEEL (whether it's a spirit or actually touching a physical thing), being able to HEAR, (a melody or just the sound of a voice) being able speak (verbally or through my music), all these things we take for granted sometimes. if you noticed, the last two things (IN CAPS) of what i'm describing to you are the things that i'm gonna talk about right now. MUSIC!!! you FEEL music, you HEAR music, and i've also seen the world through music, but that's not what i'm getting at... after countless airports, airplanes, taxis, hotels, and clubs... and shit i'm tired of me & jetlag being best friends... i'm throwing away my passport (not really but you get the picture) for 2 months and locking myself in my studio and making some fucking MUSIC!!!! i know some people are saying good and it's about time that i get back in the studio and what has taken me so long, well to make a long story short... all i have to say is... when i'm on the road, it takes me out of the studio, and no... i don't wanna make no beats on my laptop while i'm on the plane or hotel room. i'm the type of artist where i have to vibe in a studio environment (incense burning, lights down low and all you see are the LED lights on my equipment) in order for me to be inspired. you can call me old skool or whatever but that's how i roll, nah mean? when you've traveled as much as i have over the years, it's addictive to be able to go to let's say... Brazil or Australia or say... Paris, all in a months time period and that's no joke!!! to see all these places and TOUCH so many people in doing what i've been doing is the SHIT!!! but it comes a time when i gotta realize what got me here in the first place and that's MY MUSIC. from the early days of the Detroit Techno Movement to today, plenty has changed in the world of music, technology has taken over and now it's a new ball game. it's the perfect time as well, it's cold as fuck here in detroit, my creativity levels are about to explode, shit i'm already working on one project as we speak, i'm working with some local guys that i'm helping produce. so keep you ears close to the speakers cause i'm gonna come with some heat in the middle of winter. the only gigs that i will concentrate on for a while are my RADIO SKOOL parties, so for those of you in DETROIT, you'll get a nice treat in having me @ home for while. and those of you worldwide all i have to say is WMC march!
peace sp

all i have to say is those of you who came to RADIO SKOOL saturday night got treated to a REAL FUCKING PARTY!!! it was a party that was high on energy and the music was of course the shizzy courtesy of my cuz (mike brown) and myself. but also, RADIO SKOOL gave you atomosphere with our light show which is the 2nd most important thing other than the music and most clubs and promoters do not understand this!!. me and my cuz showed detroit what it is to really do a bumping ass party. it was the first RADIO SKOOL at OSLO since they have been reopened and it was packed too! since febuary of this year i have taken a personal challenge to throw quality parties and educate detroit with quality dance music with no gimmicks. and the end result was... everyone who was there, was on the dancefloor screaming and hollering, think i'm lying??? just read my comments or just ask the people who were there. without a doubt, RADIO SKOOL was the hottest party that night and it was a shitload of parties and clubs that were open that night too. now many of you may ask why didn't we go till 4am well, let's just say that this is only the begining and maybe the next one we will go till 4am. so all of you who came down after 2am and couldn't get in... i apologize that you got turned away and from what i hear it was plenty of you as well. oslo is still working on the 4am license and they will have it soon. so for those who did not make it this time then come out to the next RADIO SKOOL @ OSLO ON JANUARY 12TH I GUARANTEE RADIO SKOOL WILL CONTINUE TO SERVE YOU QUALITY BEATS AND THE RIGHT VIBE FOR OUR CITY TO ENJOY.

detroit has a long way to go when it comes to people excepting each other for who they are. especially in this case. i have tried to give my city the benefit of the doubt and supported numerous event and weeklys here because it's our scene. i have contributed my fair share of highlights for the detroit dance music, club scene etc... but i'm not here to talk about me, i'm here to talk about LaDolce Vida a restaurant/patio/social gathering place or whatever you want to call it here in detroit. why the FUCK did they tell me to take off my SUPER FUCKING STYLISH FEDORA HAT? i could not beleive what i was hearing. LaDolce Vida for those of you that don't know is a gay/straight friendly establishment. and the reason why i say gay friendly establishment is because, the gay communites are the first to except themselves for who they are without any predjudice whatsoever and that's NOT THE ISSUE in which i'm writing this, i'm writing this because LaDolce Vida should know better than to ask someone to not be able to express themeselves of who they are! i'm an artist/musician/producer/dj and most of alll an individual, so i except people for who they are regardless off race creed & color, religion, sexual preference shit!!!, i've been all over the world i've seen so much of what the world has to offer but, I CAN'T GO TO YOUR ESTABLISMENT BECAUSE I HAVE ON A FUCKIN FEDORA! they could not offer a explaination except NO HATS ALLOWED! EXCUSE ME PEOPLE, AREN'T WE SURROUNDED BY FASHION? whether it's Music,tv,internet, clubs etc.. it's part of our lives. how does a city that's supposed to cater to a metropolitian area be able to compete with other cities that are more culturally diverse. after five minutes of pleading my case the door guy, rent a cop, real cop, and manager had no idea that i would put up such a fuss that all they could say is... "well... we will let you in with no charge if you take of your hat" by this time a crowd was forming at the door, i spoke to some people who were in disbelief, what? do we still live in the 50's? NO! am i at my grandmothers house? NO! and the fact that it was me even devastated them even more. so what did i do? i told them to fuck off and i walked away, leaving them dumbfounded. they were suprised that we, my wife (which would've been the hottest chick there in the first place, and i walked away. if i can't be myself coming to your establishment then... i don't need to come in, FUCK YOU! my wife called LaDolce Vida to complain, she explained to the person on the phone the situation and employee said WHAT?? they did not let Stacey Pullen in because of his fedora? and it's not even about me, it's about my form of expression! i could've been anybody. undoubtly she knew who i was and said hold the line. after 3-4minutes later she came back and said she was sorry but the owner stood firm on his decision, but she apologized, shit... even she was thrown back about the situation as well. so there you have it people... SEND LADOLCE VIDA HATE MAIL IF YOU WANT.... THEY DESERVE IT!!! I WILL NEVER SPEND ANOTHER DIME IN THAT PLACE EVER AGAIN AND I WILL BLOG THIS SHIT UNTIL THEY REALIZED WHAT THEY DID.

let me get straight to it, i leave for 2 weeks on may 1st for my australian/new zealand tour, (my 11th annual australian tour btw...) and flying economy to L.A. which is not really a big deal because 1st class domestic ain't really shit anyways, but since i'm a platinum member you might as well enjoy it cause it's for free. so im boarding the plane and WTF... it's andre 3000 from outkast and a couple of big name comedians and their managers taking up half the 1st class cabin, so i said to them... so you guys are the reason why i'm flying economy, they just looked and smiled, by this time the whole plane was calling their loved ones to tell them...GUESS WHO ON MY PLANE!! so anywho... i get to L.A. and i have a 4hr layover so i called kenny (larkin) (my hombre') but it wasn't enough time to hang like we wanted so we said, ok next time we'll hang out. fast forward 4hrs and now i'm taking off from LAX for my 14hr flight to new zealand. i'm dozing after take off and then, a small boom!, i didn't really think nothing of it cause i fly too damn much! the flight attendant gets on the p a system and says," we are aware of the noise and jolt you just felt, please stand by for the captains instructions" so i'm thinking OH SHIT! but i did not push the panic button. everyone was calm and the captain said," we lost the #1 engine but the plane is quite capable of flying on 3 engines, we have to turn around and make an emergency landing but first we gotta dump fuel for 30mins b4 we can land" so we landed safely as you can tell, but i missed my 1st gig of the tour because we had to stay overnight in L.A. so guess what...? YO KENNY!!! i'm stuck here for 24hrs. i had to spend the night at the airport hotel. i woke up in the am, i turn on cnn and can you beleive it... my flight made the local and national news. they made it seem so dramatic but it was not nothing of the sort, we were all calm and chill, no one screaming or losing it. kenny comes and picks me up and we go get some grub at the standard hotel on sunset and we run into ron trent sitting at the pool having a cocktail, so we're shooting off our mouths about the music game, art, basqiuat, etc. but in the back of my mind i'm thinking damn... i'm missing my gig! shit that's the whole reason why i'm on this trip. i get back to the airport 9hrs later and finally i get my flight down under. tbc...

i usually don't get nervous before i play, but saturday night i was... from me being a promoter, to handling the $$$, to making sure we had the visuals on point that night, to me being a dj, it was a full nights work for me. it was not a typical clubnight in the D, it was a special homecoming for those who loves this music considering that there were many other parties that night but, i said to myself that yea... there may be others parties tonight but they are not offering what we were and that was, like i said b4... quality electronic dance music. from the moment shawn put on his first track, i was like, IT'S ON NOW BABY!! he played a couple of tracks that i play but they were different mixes of the tracks which is exactly what shawn and i envisioned for this night to work, two different styles that work good together. so the nights going so far so good and then tom from bleu says "it's never this crowded this early" and i said "oh really"? anyway, i won't bore with the details but that's what's needed to make this night a success. let's be real here, unforturnatly detroit has a 2am curfew which sucks and half of detroit does not go out until 11:30,12midnight, let's just say that they show up fashionably late. we gotta change that by the way, shit... in spain people don't even get to the club till 3am, anyway so i go on around 12:30am, i'm anxious to the point that if someone gave me some prozac i would have popped a couple, (no...jus playin.) BOOM! so here we go, we just cranked it up a couple of knotches, the crowd was electric. i even said a few words on the mike and i never do that shit! but i felt that it was needed to expain what is the vision of Radio Skool. from my first track to my last track my city showed me love. we went till 2:30am which was perfect cause we were suppose to be done 30 minutes ago. in the future we will go longer but first we must nurture it. of course i would love to go to 4am or even 3am, but i would rather stop at the peak of the end of the night rather than play to five people on a empty dancefloor at the end of the night. the key is to stop it while it's good so you have them coming back for more the next time. and that's how the night ended, they wanted more and we will give them more. on saturday feb 10th 2007 Radio Skool was born and i would like to thank each and everyone who attended. i ask of you one favor and that is tell all the people who were not there that they missed out on a ROCKING ASS PARTY!!!
also show your love and friendship to www.myspace.com/radioskool in my top 16. from there we will announce when the next Radio Skool is in session. which will be every two months.
thanks sp

Current mood: determined
ok people(my detroit peeps only!) i've spent some time on the grind here in detroit over the past years checking out many different clubs, clubs that have came and went at the same time, clubs that cater to the bottle service crowd, clubs that have gimmicks to get people in the door, like taking full page ads in mags with scantly dress chicks so they say that we have the hottest women at our club, i've been to numerous parties where people just use music as a backdrop for filling in the silence. but i've also been to some rocking parties too, i love my underground dance music scene. i've been part of this scene here for quite some time, for those who can remember my first residence at the sardine bar with adriel fantastique, to the shelter at st andrews to my residence at motor to my now defunct residence at oslo, i have probably been one of the only detroit dj's who travels the world to still make time for a residence in my city. why?? because, there is nothing like rocking a party and being able to drive home to my on house:) no... just kiddin... it's because we are missing out on the club culture here in detroit. don't get me wrong...i have been to some good gigs here in the city but as a whole... we need to take it up a couple of knotches. for those of you who make that 4hr drive to toronto, you know what the fuck i'm taking about right? it's the closest place to detroit where they have a pretty healthy dance music scene. but what i'm talking about now is our local scene where we have a small portion of people who actually know about their music, then there's the crowd who has no clue, so they go to these other clubs and listen to mashups(which btw... they don't even know that style) and then there's the dj's who play the same tunes as there favorite dj's and they don't have their own voice or style. and of course, the dj who plays the commercial hit's (rap & R&B included) just to fill the dancefloor. the club owners are cluless as well, well most are... they just want people to drink. I'M TALKING ABOUT MY CITY DETROIT!!! i'm taking a personal challenge to improve on the quality of dance music that we don't have here. i'm starting a monthly called "RADIO SKOOL". this night and concept is plain and simple... creating a club culture, not just going out to a club and the music is that same shit you hear on the RADIO, on the flipside we will take you to SKOOL and educate you with quality dance music. OK... that's only have the story... i'll make it short. i thought it would be kinda interesting to bring in a local dj who's opened for many of the world reknown dj's who have come and visited our great city, his name is shawn michaels. many of you may say wow!!... that's a odd combo, well.. that's the point, i wanted to get a local dj who knows the detroit scene and who's here on the ground weekend and weekout. he has his loyal fans here in the city and i have my loyal fans in the city, but i also have that travel experience that can be a major factor in making a difference here in my city. from spending time in ibiza to london to tokyo, i have had the chance of being apart so many great fucking events and i want to bring that same club experience home to my city. so, i guess you want to know which club where RADIO SKOOL will take place and i will tell you... Bleu. now all you haters who hate on bleu for whatever reason, or for those who love bleu for whatever reason, all i have to say is this... Bleu has been the only club that has supported dance music since Motor closed years ago. it has a rocking sound system, it's an old theater which is great for acoustics, i've been to many clubs like bleu in my travels and they fucking rocked! all the other clubs in the city especially after oslo has close do not support dance music. except the small grimey spots, you know where they are. i know that not all of bleu's guest dj's have been my cup of tea but at least they have made the effort and giving you a taste of what's going on elsewhere. and last... when you walk into Bleu, it feels like a proper dance club not some bullshit where you can't get in with jeans & sneakers, like most of the clubs here that caters to the same people.....so there you have it, RADIO SKOOL is about to be born on saturday feb 10th at bleu. btw... rememeber this is only for my peeps in the D (my city)
there will be a feature of me in tomorrows issue feb 7th of Real Detroit. i'm talking about the Radio Skool Monthlys and the state of affairs in the detroit club scene. oh! and for all you party people who crave this dance shit, this night is for you!!!!
c u on the dancefloor!!
