ohey!

just to let everyone know, we have FINALLY actually started jamming on some of the new stuff that has been written, infact, it is now the sole purpose of our jam time! Thus far the first song we have been working on is sounding VERY nice indeed (if i do say so myself) and I presume it will be sounding even better when we all have a better feel for it!

just thought i'd keep you in the loop!

Hey all, hows it going?

Just wanted to announce that the shows listed on our myspace at the moment are going to be our last shows for quite a while (with the exclusion of one more 18+ show in october that hasnt been announced yet... shhh!), as we are planning to take a break from playing shows to record our next album! So make sure you get along to one of our shows to catch us and show us some love before we disappear for several months to start creating!

(There is only one all ages show, with the Lytic Cycle towards the end of August, so kiddies hit that one up and get your wall of death on!)

We will undoubtedly keep you up to date with the progress on the writing and recording of the album as it goes along, maybe even with some uber cool studio video diary or summin... thus far we have completed writing 7 songs (guitar only), we are aiming for about 12, so theres still a little bit of a ways to go, but we are getting there!

Cheers

Hey all, whats the haps?

I just wanted to post a little blurb explaining the spiffy looking 'tick tick tick' ANTITREND logo we just chucked up on our myspizzle. We dont mean to offend, we are just making public our opinions.

Metal/hardcore has, in recent years, become exposed to a particular culture trend that i'm sure most of you have at least heard of, if not been directly in contact with, or even been a part of... sXe or Straight Edge. Now dont get us wrong, if you choose not to drink alcohol, good on you, if you choose not to smoke or do drugs and what have you, good on you! We totally support that decision, you guys rule!

What we dont support, however, is using sXe as a means to become part of a trend, and henceforth somehow seeing yourself as a bigger and better person than people who dont necessarily follow what 'the trend' you are currently a part of dictates.

Straight edge is an purist/elitist culture, filled with people who dont accept people the way they are unless they are part of the straight edge clique. By all means, dont drink or any of that stuff if thats what you want, but dont treat folks who arent part of your circle (well, technically with straight edges its more likely to be a square... or a parallelogram or something) of friends as lesser people.

THATS where the problem lies!

You dont see normal people glaring at some hardcore kid because hes not drinking and smoking, do you? Then why should it be the other way around eh? We like to party, simple as that! If you are going to judge people because they like to have fun then there is something seriously wrong with you.

Just enjoy your straight edge existence and stop trying to force it on everyone else! Have fun dammit! Thats all we are doing!

Separatist's Review - May 09

Metal Hammer Magazine, Subterrenea - "Unscene" Featured Artist.

It says alot about todays connected world and musical climate that although Separatist hail from the far-flung regions of southern Tasmania, these five-strong marauders are as state of the art as metal gets. This, their debut album, may be based on a straightforward template of porcine-voiced, technical death/grind but that isnt to say that they dont have a few sonic tricks of their own up their sleeves.

The Reprieve is a disorientating stew of clinically savage riffs all operating on separate time signatures and causing all manner of temporal brain warpagge and short-circuited synapses as they battle it out for supremecy. Meanwhile, the inaptly titled A Gentle Reminder accentuates its slashing, whiplash riffs with portentous stabs of keyboard as it builds up to an apocalyptic riot of reckoning.

Separatist's one concession to indigenous Tasmanian atmosphere is that their dense swirl often feels like being caught in the slipstream of their native devil from the Looney Tuns cartoons, but this is serious, bracing stuff, compromised only by some rushed, wincingly flat clean vocals.

Hey all! Just wanted to point you in the direction of another awesome review we just got from American online magazine Metal Bite, who gave us an 8.1 out of 10 which rules!

You can see the review here :
http://www.metalbite.com/tracks.asp?album=7961

Enjoy it!

And also, those of you who havent noticed yet, the reason we unfortunately had to pull out of the Sonic Exhumation on the 28th of May is that we are now playing with Malevolent Creation (USA) at their Melbourne show at the Hi Fi Bar on that date instead, which will rule! Supported by Frankenbok, Separatist (weeee), and Killrazer (syd) this show will be one hell of an event! If you are in the area, or even if you arent, get along to this show and have an awesome time!

Cheers
