We hope you’ve been enjoying Cooliris version 1.11.5! If you haven’t yet gotten it, hurry and get it at cooliris.com, because the performance has been improved up to 30 percent on Windows machines, meaning a faster, slicker Cooliris!

In addition, we know you’ve been writing us about supporting Bing Image search and we’re super excited to announce that it is available now!  Simply click in our search toolbar and select Bing as your search engine, or launch Cooliris from any Bing Image search webpage. In light of Halloween coming up in four days, here’s a Wall of some funny Halloween comic strips!

We sincerely hope that you’ve been enjoying our recent performance and usability enhancements to the Cooliris product. In Michele Turner’s words (our very own Executive Vice President of Products), “Supporting platforms, devices, and sites that are important to our users will allow our unique user experience and superior browsing capabilities to spread beyond our immensely happy community. We are thrilled to continue our support of Microsoft’s platforms and innovations through our continued investment in improving their users’ experiences on IE, Windows, and Bing by providing the fastest, most visually compelling, interactive, content browsing experience available.”

Enjoy!

Get ready to upgrade to your mobile browsing experience with the release of Cooliris for the iPhone Version 1.5! This newest incarnation focuses on streamlining your social networking and media surfing on the fly.
Let’s talk specifics.

The first thing you’ll notice is the improved speed. We’ve boosted the app’s performance to make your searches up to 5X faster! This souped-up engine is complimented by a beautifully revamped user interface. Version 1.5’s new, snappier design features simplified menus and navigation with an intuitive feel that works naturally with the iPhone.

Have you tried Bing, Microsoft’s new “decision engine”? Cooliris brings it right to your iPhone, with the ability to surf images through Bing, as well as Picasa Web Albums. And no matter which provider you use, v1.5 provides a Safesearch option.

We’ve also introduced a new feature called “My Social” for full Twitter support. Now you can surf through both your personal and public Twitter timelines. You can even pick new users to Follow and can ReTweet your favorite posts. To log into your Twitter account, simply go to Main Menu > Preferences > Login > Twitter Login.

Now, if that’s not enough, we’ve streamlined things to make navigation smoother and easier. For example, now you can view titles for individual items on the Wall without having to select the item. Also, you’ll never lose the context of any Wall item again when switching to the home screen.

And finally, for the geek crowd, here’s a cool trick: Launch any Media RSS feed from Safari using cooliris:// + Feed URL, and it will launch the feed page into Cooliris! For example, enter this feed into Safari on your iPhone: cooliris://feeds.digg.com/digg/news/popular.rss. What’s cool about this is if you have these Cooliris URLs listed anywhere on a webpage, you can easily launch them from Safari without manually entering the URLs into Cooliris. And as long as you’re logged into your Cooliris account, you can favorite or subscribe to these feeds or Walls with just the click of a star!

So check out Cooliris for the iPhone v1.5 at the iTunes App Store, and enjoy a fluid mobile browsing experience at lightning fast speed. Let Cooliris be your window to a world of media – and the door to sharing that world with friends and family. Connecting just got a whole lot easier.

Category: Web, HTML, Tech
Hello there!

My name is Mark and I’m an intern here at Cooliris. I’ll be posting regularly to discuss Cooliris and the many things beyond it. I hope to make our blog not only an interesting place to learn more about Cooliris, but also a community page where we can share our thoughts on the things going on in the world, both technological and otherwise. We would love to hear from you, no matter the topic!

Well, it appears that my acquisition of blog privileges is quite timely – there have been some interesting things afoot at Cooliris, particularly surrounding our new 1.11 release. If you’ve had a chance to poke around in 1.11, you’ll notice that one of the coolest new features is the ability to share your favorite 3D Walls through URL’s.

Sharing URL’s makes it infinitely easier to share awesome walls of content with your friends and family. You can simply bring up the desired 3D Wall in your web browser, copy the above URL, and paste it wherever you want. You can also share specific content within a Wall by clicking on a specific item and then copying and pasting the URL. Easy? Oh yeah.

There are all sorts of good places to post a 3D Wall URL. Try tossing one up as your Facebook status, posting one in your favorite forum, or tweeting it on your Twitter account.

Of course, these URL’s are made even more useful by the fact that Cooliris is compatible with so many popular sites. For example, if one of your buddies is looking to buy a car, send him a 3D Wall of some sleek-looking BMW’s, and perhaps a Wall of crazy techno CD’s from Amazon to make up his ride’s soundtrack. Heck, send him a 3D Wall of YouTube clips from “The Fast and the Furious” to get him pumped up to drive that baby! The possibilities are endless.

Sharing content through URL’s can be used in a broader, more professional sense as well. Consider a budding photographer trying to publicize her Flickr photos. What better way to get her shots out there than with a 3D Wall URL? Or think of a young webmaster who has just enabled his website with Cooliris. How sweet would it be to share things from his very own site with the click of a button? Really sweet.

But the URL feature doesn’t always have to be used for sharing. You can use it to bookmark any 3D Wall of your choosing so you can instantly come back to it with the click of a button. Just bookmark the URL of your 3D Wall and all the content will be a click away when you’re ready for ‘em.

There is so much to explore and share on the internet – sharing 3D Wall URL’s makes it much easier and more fun to do both! If you haven’t gotten a chance to try it yet, definitely check it out and bombard your friends with 3D Walls of some awesome stuff. Better yet, bombard us with some of your favorite 3D Walls - maybe photos from your 4th of July weekend, or perhaps your favorite patriotic music video. Or, send over some ways you are using the share URL feature. We’ll compile the best ones and post them up! And, as always, please let us know what you think!

Cooliris is all about giving you a super-smooth experience when you’re browsing the web. That’s why in our newest incarnation, version 1.11, we’ve changed the way Cooliris interacts with you in some really fundamental but really important ways.

MULTITASKING (OR, HOW TO DO 10,000 THINGS AT ONCE, IN STYLE)

Let’s face it, we’re all busy people, and we probably have the shortest attention spans in the history of mankind. Never is this more apparent than in our web navigation habits, when we’re trying to juggle work, social networking, entertainment, finances, and news updates. Sometimes there’s blinking between all of those tasks. Sometimes there isn’t.
In light of this, the Cooliris experience now scales to your level of immersion. Full-screen is now an option rather than a default, allowing you to make Cooliris your centerpiece or just another window.

A big change is that Cooliris now features tabbed browsing. This enables you to run multiple instances of the app, and lets you jump freely between Cooliris, other tabs, and desktop programs such as email clients and iTunes. You can even run it in the background as a music player, cycling through your favorite music videos while you work.

A URL FOR EVERY OCCASION, AND CONTENT SHARING!
With Cooliris available in tab, there’s now a URL for any item or Wall of content. What does this mean?

– Set a 3D Wall view as your homepage to have your favorite photo and video search results and all the latest news and entertainment right at your fingertips, every time you fire up your browser!
– Bookmark single items or an entire Wall to your browser, so you can quickly relocate photo albums from your local computer drive or photo sites such as Flickr.
– Even share your 3D Wall with friends by giving them its URL.

Sharing your 3D Wall is super easy. Here’s how to give it try: (1) View a Wall of public content as you normally would; (2) copy its unique URL from your browser’s address bar; and (3) paste it anywhere you’d like, such as in your blog post or email, Twitter, Facebook, you name it. When your friends or readers click the link, they will see your Wall in Cooliris (or be prompted to download Cooliris if they don’t already have it).

BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE!

For Flickr aficionados, Cooliris now allows all photos on a single Wall to be complete with title, author, description, and tags, and can jump between sets and pools. And on MySpace, you can now enjoy photos from any page in a streaming content wall.
There’s a whole set of new interface revamps as well, giving you smoother, more apparent scrolling and niftier navigation options.

Our brand new version 1.11 is now available at www.cooliris.com for Firefox (Windows, Mac, Linux) and Internet Explorer. A beta version for Safari (Mac) is also available. Below is a quick video run-through of how you can start using Cooliris v1.11. Enjoy!
