Phil Wickham is a phenominal Christian musician. He has a great voice and some absolutely wonderful music. He also has a pretty killer blog. Right now he is offering free downloads of his album Sing Along. Let me tell you this album is awesome. This was recorded live on May 9, 2008 during his performance at the Solid Rock Church in Portland, Oregon. This was a treat for many. I watched it live at home along with many other Phil Wickham fans. It was well worth it alone just to hear True Love (one of my faves). If you like music, Christian music, enjoy live music, and want some great music for free...I strongly recommend you go Phils Website. Totally check out his blog too. I think you'll really like it. :)

This morning we had a wonderful visit from Vvvvvvvvvvv, Vonswan, Ms. Tearia, & Ms. Fonce of Saltimbanco CIRQUE DU SOLEIL. They are performing at the Tim's Toyota Center in Prescott Valley this Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I took some pictures, but I have yet to upload them. They took some pictures here as well, and they are pretty cool. So until I get mine in...please feel free to check out the link here:

Honestly, I do not even know what category I should put this blog in. This is work related, but it is also music related. I would put in under JUST WATCH, but I am not that bossy (well...not here). Stopping now before I go into a ramble...
So I am sitting at my desk when I hear this melody that at the time I could only describe as Flamenco music (check it out, I just checked my spelling of Flamenco, and totally got it right!!!). I thought to myself "whaaaa?" I have heard some interesting tunes vibrating out of various offices, but never flamenco. Obviously I had to investigate. Wouldn't you? Sooo with the utmost skills in stealth I slowly crept down the hallway (or up depending on your perspective) and found the music was coming from Mike's office. Mike has this big ole bumper sticker in his window, so visualization of anything is not immediate, but visualization wasn't necessary when I finally heard the music a little more clearly. It was none other than another Cover Tune Grab Bag from MercyMe.
The song du jour was the DC Talk version of Jesus Is Still Alright With Me. If you do not know the DC Talk version, do not expect this one to sound just like it. Watch and listen though, because it is DEFINITELY worth watching if only for some awesome dance moves by none other than Bart Millard. So if you want a lil giggle or to learn a creative dance move...watch on:
And a lil info about MercyMe's Cover Tune Grab Bag below:

I just finished listening to a sneak peak of Ruth's new CD Anorak which is coming out October 28! If you haven't heard of Ruth yet, you should definitely check them out. Here is a little something from the band Ruth. :)
I had not really heard much about Ruth before so I decided to do a little searching after listening to Anorak. I read some interviews, watched some youtube videos of their performances (seem to be really liked by the fans), and I listened to music from their 2007 CD Secondhand Dreaming (liked it a lot). In my reading I was surprised to read one writer's comments that said that they had taken the good parts of 90s music like Nirvana, Radiohead, Third Eye Blind, and the Black Crows. I found this oddly confusing, because none of these bands really sound much alike musically nor would I compare any of them to Ruth. Not to mention Ruth is a Christian band with a definite message. I do not even understand the reference, but I did like all those bands back then in my young college years of excess. Ruth reminds me more of a group like Weezer in some respects, but even that is not a fair comparison. They are their own group and have their own style. They have toured with Switchfoot and Reliant K among others, and I wouldn't compare them to those bands either. Though I would say that people who like those bands will probably like Ruth.
My review.
First...very interesting title. Did you know that Anorak is a word and not an anagram or just something made up to catch the eye? After looking up the definition in several places, I found I really liked the whole concept of the title. In case you do not already know it, here it is: (This is a wiki definition) In British slang an anorak is a person, typically a man, who is an enthusiast interested in information regarded as boring or unfathomable by the rest of the population. Why a man? That part I am not sure, but I imagine that a devotion to Christ might seem odd and boring. An anorak is also a parka. Pretty cool too because it keeps you warm and toasty during a good ole snowball fight or some other fun chilly weather activities. All good, I say. And I have to add that after listening to Anorak several times I did feel pretty darn warm. ;)
I really enjoyed this CD. I have listened to it here at least 6 times already. It is upbeat, and I would totally take it on a road trip. That is my highest compliment. Trust me. I don't put just anything in my car for those long hauls. I seriously think I am going to pick this one up. That is saying something too, because I am really careful about the music I buy. Nowadays financially I really have to be, but this is good. Great cover art too! Just sayin'.
Loved the lyrics, the drums, and the vocals. I wouldn't say every song was amazing, but I liked just about each one. This is a CD that grew on me as I listened. At first I was like "....hmmmmm. I don't know." Before long I was like "...yeah, I like this!" Now I really am just waiting to pick it up. If you haven't checked out the free preview...hurry up and do it before it is too late! You can hear it this week only before buying it if you go to New Release Tuesday. :)

I am going back again to posts of the past, but this one is really a must do.
In August I posted as a fan about the song "One Life to Love" by 33Miles. I have to say that the song still gives me chills. I don't know if you have checked it out yet or not, but we have played it quite frequently on Radio Shine.
So here is the news...for the next week until October 13 you can get "One Life to Love" for FREE on iTunes. Totally free! This is pretty huge because although iTunes offers free songs, they do not offer many free Christian songs. If you go there and get a download, and really who are we kidding...of COURSE you are going to go there and get it...please leave a nice comment about it too. Spread the love.
So...tell a friend, tell a neighbor, tell as many people as you can find that if they like free music and if they want to offer a little extra support to a great Christian band...they really should get to itunes ASAP and get this free download!
Now there are several ways you can link up to this offer: 1: Go right over to the 33Miles Myspace page (I have made them our NUMBER 1 friend so you don't have to hunt around at all) and read their blog titled "Free iTunes Discovery Download" read all about it and click on the link there. 2: Go to www.33milesonline.com Which is of couse 33Miles website. The link is right on their homepage. 3: Even go to www.inorecords.com And check out their main page. They have the story link right on their main page too. 4: I am going to put the link here too. Sooooohttp://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?id=292674314&s=143441 Now that I have outlined it...get going!

I am pretty psyched about a new CD Release!!!!!
This is pretty cool news for a person like me. As a big fan of a lot of various Christian artists and as a throwback to the mixed tape generation, the release of WOW Hits 2009 is pretty awesome news. As much as I would like to, I simply cannot own every CD with every song I like. Now my husband tries to (you should check out the stacks of CDs he has), in fact I threw my shoulder once just trying to lift my husband's car CD case --I kid you not. But I digress...as I often do.
Even if you have every CD by every artist on the WOW Hits 2009 think of the space you will save by having this compilation. Plus the songs are all hits which makes this a pretty awesome collection. It is a two disc set with songs from artists like Stephen Curtis Chapman,Casting Crowns, Third Day, Mercyme, Chris Tomlin, Jeremy Camp, Fee, David Crowder Band, Britt Nicole, Red, Nevertheless, Fireflight, Leeland, Francesca Battistelli, Stellar Kart, Needtobreathe and lots of others.
Honestly, I like it because there are definitely great songs in various styles on this CD. I can enjoy praise and worship that is mellow or pretty kickin. This is a CD I can play for my mom and my 13-year-old son. What is better than that?
Lastly, and really this is a pretty cool thing that I hope you consider as well.... I found this bit of information while checking out www.christiantoday.com. "A portion of the proceeds from this year's WOW project will be donated to Maria's Miracle Fund at Shaohannah's Hope, a ministry founded by Steven Curtis and Mary Beth Chapman that gives grants to Christian families who are adopting and mobilises the body of Christ to care for orphans. Each WOW purchase will help neglected special needs orphans receive the love, care, and surgeries they need through Maria's Miracle Fund, set up in memory of the Chapman's youngest adopted daughter who died earlier this year."
Now really, what are you waiting for?

A while back I blogged about supporting the filmmakers of of Fireproof. It did really well during the opening weekend, and it is still doing really quite well now. :) How awesome is that? I think it is pretty cool.
We went away for a family get away during opening weekend, and as much as I wanted to see Fireproof, my family time is top priority. I was concerned that I was going to miss the movie and the opportunity to share it with my husband and my son, and I even looked to see if it was showing in Payson (where we took off to for the weekend). Fortunately it did well enough that our theater still had it this weekend! So on with my thoughts...
First...the audience.
Let me just say that seeing a movie or a concert with a Christian audience is refreshing in and of itself. People are pleasant. Yeah, some are still kind of loud, but there is definitely a different air about the crowd. People are polite. I saw more than one couple move over a few seats so that others could have a spot together. No questions asked, people just did it. Very nice.
Now the movie...
I got choked up seven times (I counted). I do not want to spoil anything about the film. We all pretty much know it is about a husband's attempt to do things right in order to save his marriage. It was done in a great way with some tension here and there and some laughs in between. There was a message, and in my opinion it rang through.
When I go to a movie, see a play, or read a book, my main goal is to be pulled into the story. With Fireproof, my goal was to be pulled into the story, like the story, and learn from it as well. I like movies that are believable. There were definitely some believable moments. There was truth in this film. I would strongly recommend it to married couples, dating couples and singles too.
What I took home from the film: You need a relationship with God with our Lord Jesus Christ if you are ever going to learn how to be in a relationship with someone else whether they be your blood or bound to you by your vows of marriage. People need to remember how important it is to love actively always. I think this film illustrates that. Now for a brag...I am fortunate in that I have an amazing husband. Through relationship ups and downs I also learned how to treat someone you love. Love needs to be unselfish. Think of that person first...my friend. Truly you will not be disappointed.
Anyway, if you haven't seen it yet, check out Fireproof. I truly think you will enjoy it. I did, my husband did, my son did, and so did the rest of the audience. They clapped and whistled. What more can you say? :)

Okay...there is a new movie hitting theaters this weekend by the people who made "Facing The Giants." It is called Fireproof, and from the trailers and feedback I have been reading, I for one, am going to check it out. I thought you might want to as well. See if it is going to be in a theater near you by going to http://www.fireproofthemovie.com/
If you see it, let us know what you think. I'll be letting you know what I think too. :)
