About COMFEST 2007

"... The local group, Dejavu Latin Fusion Rhythms, played their eclectic Latin beats strewn with political commentary to an enthusiastic crowd on the Gazebo stage.
Lead singer, Enrique Infante, enthusiastically welcomed the crowd with praises for the volunteers and attendees who worked tirelessly to plan and coordinate the event.
"Comfest is sweet - the best festival we've ever played in," Infante said. "You can screw the war, screw everybody, come here and just play music."
The eight group members of Dejavu Latin Fusion Rhythms hail from Peru, Columbia, Venezuela, Brazil and the United States.
Dejavu Latin Fusion Rhythms played songs from their new album "Abriendo Caminos" and dedicated their songs to children in the world living in poverty, as tget said their songs were proclamations of love.
The audience responded enthusiastically to their political opinions and began to sway and dance to the rhythms echoing across Goodale Park" (...)

Biography of the Band

When "Kique" (Enrique Infante) decided to start a new band, after not playing for quite sometime, he had a collection of unpublished songs, and was determined to make them known.
Infante met Tino (Walthiño Casanova) in July of 2003, and they decided to build a band, showed him the songs, and both agreed then on continuing with the search for musicians. They put an ad in the newspaper and people started calling. After some unsuccessful auditions, and after Enrique talked to some other people, he met another musician, Victor Zancudo .

February of  2004 is the month in which the band get together for a first time with musicians from Perú, Venezuela, Colombia and United States.
Initially DEJAVU was a three pieces band. Now there are 7 permanent members and depending on the event the band invite other qualified musicians.

DEJAVU first public appearance was at the Columbus Palace Theater before an audience of more than one thousand people.  Little by little, the band has been working hard to get a own style that now its very characteristic. A mix of Latin American rhythms like salsa, festejo and joropo with others like pop, rock and funk.

DEJAVU Latin fusion rhythms has been playing around in more than 100 different venues like outdoor festivals, workshops, bars, night clubs, radio stations, television programs, cultural events and private parties in Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and West Virginia states.

In February of 2006 they decided to go to visit Perú and at the same time record what it would be their first album ABRIENDO CAMINOS (Opening Paths). The process lasted three long months. Besides some DEJAVU members, other musicians from the Inca country, has participated in the recording. The album was mastered in New York City.

After receiving one thousand copies, the band started organizing the CD release party for the Press and the public. The event took a place at the Columbus Music Hall on Saturday 11th of 2006.
2007 brought more shows than ever in and out of Ohio. By the end of December the band went to Lima Perú to play some shows in the City of the Kings. Six shows that end up on January of 2008. Back in Columbus, the band have new members and ready to kick out the summer.

EMERGENZA FESTIVAL 2007

Dejavu stepped up next with a blend of Latino funk and rock, with a sexy splash of Salsa, putting bands to mind like Ozomatli and the Gypsy Kings. The vocals complimented one another, and the work from the percussion artists was truly amazing. Great all around sound and stage presence. Can't wait to see these guys in the final!

Europa patrocinando la película "Anda, corre, vuela" ("Go, run,
fly").

nombrar solamente a algunos".

Bloomington IN, Parkersburg WV, Cleveland, Lorain, Toledo y a

York, Chicago, Los Angeles y Miami.

(Perú); Víctor Zancudo, cuatro/guitarra/percusión/voz (Venezuela);
Tino Casanova, percusión/coros (Perú); María Duque, voz (Colombia);
Jason Foster, Teclados (USA); John Basom, guitarra (USA); Carlos

DEJAVU –"Abriendo Caminos"

http://www.wecolumbus.com/blog/music/

With members hailing from Venezuela, Peru, Colombia, and the good ol' USA, Columbus band Dejavu is an international melting pot of Latin jams. The different styles and cultures that they grew up with and have been exposed to are evident on their new self-released debut Abriendo Caminos (Opening Paths). Recorded this spring in Lima, Peru, the 13 songs here reveal bits of their various reference points that mix together for an album about Latino brotherhood, international community, and... lots of dancing.

Traditional salsa provides a great deal of their "Latin Fusion Rhythms," but percussionist Tino Casanova ventures into many other territories with his arsenal of tricks, so fans of the Peruvian box, congas, timbales, and bongos are in for a treat. The music is also driven by the bass of Kique Infante (who also sings lead on most tracks), the keyboards of Jason Foster, and the guitar of John Basom (unfortunately, guitarist and cuatro player Victor Zancudo was unable to travel for the recording). The vocals of Infante and Maria Duque are passionate and persuasive, often coaxing the listener to dance and hear their joyful message, even if the listener doesn't speak Spanish. As a band focused on rhythms, Dejavu is best at mid- and up-tempo dance tunes; the ballads here seem to change the band's style for the worse and throw off the album's momentum. Overall, though, Abriendo Caminos is an impressive debut, and a very professional self-produced product (the thick booklet features full lyrics in Spanish and English).

Come hear the songs of Dejavu live on Saturday night, November 11th, at the Columbus Music Hall. Doors open at 9 PM, with face-melting jams to ensue shortly thereafter.

Dejavu Latin Fusion Rhythms, a band from Columbus to the World

You can  visit  http://quepasacolumbus.com/ to see the interview (spanish only)
on the original format. Get your FREE ALBUM!!!  and leave us a message
.

Since 2004, the band Dejavu Latin Fusion Rhythms is
making everyone to dance in the three-state area; Ohio, Indiana y Kentucky.

Enrique Infante, bass player and lead vocalist of the band, says …

"The band is formed for musicians from Perú, Venezuela, Colombia

and USA. Our music is a mix of Latin American rhythms and Caribbean
with pop, rock and funk.

Enrique is a Peruvian artist with several years of experience in the music

business. He used to play with the famous band "Los Mojarras" and went

to Europe to perform for the movie "Anda, corre, vuela" ("Go, run,
fly"). He also played with "Puka Kuntur", Quechua words for Red Condor.

They used to mix Peruvian folklore music with rock and pop.

How did you create Dejavu?

I came to USA in October of 1998. I stopped doing music for several reasons.  The fact of not knowing English was the main problem. I did not kwon to anybody involved with music. I worked as many immigrants do.

Then in 2003, I've decided to create a band. I've opened my notebooks,

get my guitar and start writing again.

(Enrique has more than 100 songs that did not have the chance to record).

Why the name Dejavu?

The french words "Déjá Vu", means "Already seen".

"For me is simply a "Reunion" of ourselves with our music.

"We wanted –says Enrique- to create a band that would combine all kind

of rhythms … Dejavu is working to build their own style same as other

bands as "Jarabe de Palo", "Yerbabuena" or "Locos por Juana", just

to mention a few.

What is the next step for Dejavu?

"Our music is well accepted; people like it. We were invited to play in
Bloomington IN, Parkersburg WV, Cleveland, Lorain, Toledo and
festivals like "Cincylatino", along some other concerts
organized by Ritmo Productions in Columbus, OH".

Our next step is to take our music to cities like New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and Miami. We will love to be heard in Latin America and in the rest of the world. Some DJ's from Colombia, Perú and Bulgaria have contacted the band already.

"We need a producer who can invest time and money for the band. That way

we could get into the "next level".

In 2008, we should record our second album if everything goes well.

The different styles and cultures have created "Abriendo Caminos"

("Opening Paths") a CD for collection that combines the traditional salsa

and cha-cha; with festejo, cumbia, huayno, samba and many others.

The band members are Enrique Infante, vocals/bass/percussion
(Perú); Víctor Zancudo, cuatro/guitar/percussion/vocals (Venezuela);
Tino Casanova, percussion/vocals (Perú); María Duque, vocals (Colombia);
Jason Foster, keyboards (USA); John Basom, guitar (USA); Carlos
Durán, drums (Venezuela) and other guest musicians.

If you want to know how beats the heart of Latinoamérica, we recommend to listen  "Abriendo Caminos" a CD that offers the rich sound of the Cajón Peruano, the cuatro Venezolano, the congas, timbales, bongoes, zampoñas and quenas, charango, the guitars and the keyboards.
