Brothers and sisters, the days of bands weakly scurrying about for the approval of record labels and mass-market media have come to a close. And with the help of the only people that matter in music, the FANS, Earth Stood Still plans to ride the crest of the new media revolution to a glorious new age of artistic freedom and unfettered rocking.
Our recent tour...small as it may have been...has cast everything in a new light for us. There is no other option in our lives, there is only the path that allows us to spread our music far and wide, one fan at a time. What is the point, exactly, of bands brought to you by gargantuan, faceless corporations? Or even smaller, less-faceless-but-still-ultimately-evil corporations? Isn't the point of rock music to craft songs and records that a fan can take home and bond with, feel like the band is THEIRS and THEIRS ALONE? How does that work when four musicians must whore themselves out, swimming endless laps in public pools of chlorinated shit just to appease moguls who need to verify your "market accessibility"? But, alas, for years, this has been the only way to make a living making music, with a few notable exceptions (as much as we are the antithesis of punk rock, I can't help but hold people like Ian McKaye or Ani DiFranco in the highest esteem for blazing these trails). The tour finally showed us the raw power of band-to-fan communication, of getting out there every night and sweating and bleeding and sacrificing for the joy of those in the audience, things that can be hard to feel playing in the vast wasteland of New York City, where everyone at your show is either a friend doing you a favor by showing up or some hipster that's more concerned with looking disaffected than showing any emotion towards your music. Now, with Myspace and online music retail, it's more than possible to be truly free, truly independent, to have a name and face and story with each fan. It's better for us, being able to make a living on a smaller scale and playing to audiences that we know and love, and better for you, the fans, because when you go home and listen to the record it's not just a bunch of characters whom you feel might not really exist, but four real PEOPLE that you saw and rocked with and swapped tales of love and woe after a show, in a sweat-fueled haze of post-musical euphoria.
So here's the deal, the bargain, the sell, as we see it here in Earth Stood Still: help us conquer! Buy the CD and burn it for all your friends, get out in the halls of your high school or college or old folk's home or anything in between and PIMP us, with the conviction that everyone brought into the fold will love it just like you do, and on our end we'll have the freedom to keep making music for the love of it, and bringing it to you as if each note, each breath was our last in this life, every song and every lyric meant to convey every possible aspect of human life and love and emotion.
It's not just whistling dixie when we say: even when we're melting your mind, Earth Stood Still loves you.

Hello one and all, just letting you know that Earth Stood Still, along with our comrades-in-face-melting Scribes of Fire are in the midst of planning a summer tour of the east coast! We'll be hitting New York, Ohio, North Carolina, and all points in between. But we need your help! If you or anyone you know has a basement, barn, living room, open field or sunken ditch that we could play OR sleep in (or both, we're not prudes about that sort of thing), please let us know, and we will come and rock for you personally!
'Till next time, when we'll have all other kinds of good news for ya.

It'd be really great if we could get an old, fifties-style propaganda film made about us, and have it constantly playing. "Earth Stood Still: A band...ON THE GROW!" with super-industrious music in the background...
Anyway, the record release party was an absolute BLAST, and a lot of people thought we were the best we'd ever been. If we were, it was only because of you guys, coming all the way out to Bushwick to pack that place. The vibe was incredible! Thanks again to ...And This Army and The Lungs for playing, and the troublemakers at Rats of NiMH for putting it all together. Now, onto the future! The album is indeed for sale, you can get it at shows, and within a few weeks you'll be able to order it from our website (which will be completed soon) or download it through SNOCAP. (Downloading it is all well and good, but we recommend buying the CD so you can get the beautiful covers painted by Eugene Zarofsky, aka The Howling Fantods). We're starting to play out of the city, too, so if anyone from Jersey/Pennsylvania/Upstate NY/Mass wants to see us, and there's a place to play and a place to sleep near you, send us a message!
There are plans in the works for us to go on a short northeastern tour with those ubiquitous merchants of mindblowery, Scribes of Fire, in July. Maybe we'll see you then? Details TBA. In the meantime come catch us both (along with Afterdawn and Invidia) at Smith's Tavern in brooklyn on April 27th.
Thanks for checking in, keep an eye posted for updates. Remember that Earth Stood Still loves you, even when we're melting your face with rock.

If only there was enough room for more exclamation points.....

Earth Stood Still's long hiatus is coming to an end! We extend the deepest possible thanks to all of our old fans who've been waiting patiently for the last year and a half, and of course to all of our new friends we've met on Myspace, or at Smith's, the Rainbow Cafe, or Micheline's. Without you we probably would've given up during the long, punishing recording process...but now the album's done, it's fucking great, and we can't wait for ya'll to hear it!
We've got a couple shows coming up, and you can find all the info on our page, but the big one obviously is the record release party. The Silent Barn is probably our favorite new venue in New York...it's quite literally just a big house that's been turned into a venue. We will be playing in the kitchen. And it will be AWESOME! We wanted to actually throw a PARTY for all of our fans as opposed to a show at some club with 30$ beers. Directions can be found on our page, stay tuned for times and other bands!
Also, on the 16th, we'll be returning to Micheline's to help promote the record release. The guys who are booking us there and at the Barn know how to throw a great party, it should be insane! This is a sweet little spot in Bushwick, we had a show there a few months ago, we hope to see some of you there!
Finally, each of these shows will feature a brand new song, "For the Sake of Sound", one of our favorite tunes we've ever written.

Merry Everything, people of the world. Earth Stood Still is currently recovering from our four-day bout of hedonistic excess up at the North Pole, and then it's off to hang out with Jesus on New Years! But in the meantime we'd just like to say that the whole CD-making progress is almost done, another 3-4 weeks and we will have them ready for sale, and we're aiming for a February record release party. The website will be up around the same time. Just went to a show last night with three of the best local bands in New York: And This Army, We Are The Music Makers, and Scribes Of Fire. All three of them were immolatingly mind-blowing, you should check 'em out on Myspace if you can. Thank you all for checking in, and happy new year.

Thank you everyone who came out to Micheline's last friday, you really made us feel like we had been missed, and it truly was a homecoming for us. Our first show in almost a year, and it was like we never left! Thanks also to the guys in Frank Polis for setting up the show and letting us use their gear, and for playing a dope-ass set (sucks that it got cut short, goddamn cops!). We're still in the process of getting the CDs together and setting up our record release party, but check back here for weekly updates, rantings, and previews of the new stuff! We cannot thank you enough for your support...if it wasn't for your love of the music, who knows where we'd be right now? But we're here to rock your world, and we're here for good.
