Following stand out performances at the
inaugural ALL TOMORROW'S PARTIES FESTIVAL, Feel Presents are proud to
announce two Sydney club shows for the legendary LAUGHING CLOWNS: May 2nd
& 3rd at The Basement.

In their initial incarnation, LAUGHING
CLOWNS
existed from 1979 - 1984 and released some of the most brilliantly
executed post-punk, post-modern, post-anything music ever produced in
Australia. Featuring the prodigious talents of one-time Saint, Ed Kuepper and
drumming genius Jeffrey Wegener, this reunited version of the LAUGHING
CLOWNS
also features former Clowns, Louise Elliot (on saxophone) and stand
up bassist Les 'Biff' Millar alongside recent Ed Kuepper sideman, Alister
Spence.

Forty Five minute sets at All Tomorrow's Parties were just a
teaser for what the Clowns promise this May.

Don't miss the reunion they
thought would never happen - LAUGHING CLOWNS - live in May.

We'd just like to say a big thanks to everyone that helped make the relaunch of Ed Kuepper's label, Prince Melon Records a success .

The first of the three volumes of offical bootlegs is almost sold out and the other two are going pretty fast as well. In keeping with the intention of these limited edition releases they won't be re-pressed when they've sold out

We have plans for one more volume in this live series this year before the release of Ed's next studio album. Keep an eye on this site for updates.

In the meantime you can have a listen to volumes one,two and three here Ed Kuepper on last.fm

You can also become a critic [oh joy!]and write a review here...

Well, in between the lavish cocaine parties with wild women in his jaucuzi, typical of the major label excesses we office juniors envy and aspire to [ luckily all of which are fully recoupable against artist royalties], Sir Alfonso [Prince Melon Records Head of In House Production] finally got around to applying his patented 'Hands Off Mastering Technique' to this live bootleg of Ed Kuepper and the Kowalski Collective. Recorded at the Judith wright Centre for the Arts, in November 2007 at the Brisbane launch of Ed's last studio album 'Jean Lee and the Yellow Dog' . The show started with a specially commisioned short film about Jean Lee done by Judi Dransfield Kuepper and Louise Bennet, which was followed by two sets of Ed and the Kowalski's doing the entire 'Jean Lee..' album as well as a number of older songs .

The band on the night were

Ed Kuepper guitar and vocals
Peter Oxley bass
Jeffrey Wegener drums
Jane Elliot cello and keyboards
Ceri McCoy and his Tijiuana Brass Boize horns

The tracklisting is

Too many clues
Messin' part 2
My best interests at heart
Here to get my baby from jail
Skinny Jean
Demolition
Real to me

words and music Ed Kuepper
except tracks 5-7

To celebrate the relaunch of Prince Melon Records , we're going to put up a link to an Ed Kuepper live performance in the next couple of days .

The show was recorded last year at the Judith wright Centre for the Arts in Brisbane, and features Ed with the expanded lineup of the Kowalski Collective.
This includes Peter Oxley on bass, Jeffrey Wegener on drums,Jane Elliot .cello and keyboards and the talents of Ceri McCoy and his Tijuana Brass Boize as the horn section.

Songs from 'Jean lee and the Yellow dog ' as well as a number of seldom heard older songs were captured in fairly reasonable bootleg sound quality so check it out.

all the best from your friends at Prince Melon

ED KUEPPER LIVE - Ed Kuepper (Prince Melon Records)
You might have missed the little things - and that would be missing a lot - if your reaction to the plainly-named tour CD "Ed Kuepper Live" is simply: "Meh, it's just another exercise in minor (chord) reinvention". Musically speaking, it's true that Sir Ed's worn more masks than a middle-aged Double Bay matron with a gold Amex card at an around-the-clock day spa, he's done his shape-shifting in a way that's never been boring.

Some of the reinvention on "Ed Kuepper Live" is by degrees, granted. But if those nuances in "La Di Doh" or the hypnotic "Honey Steels Gold" are lost on you, or alternatively you're not bowled over by the rock and roll power of his latest band The Kowalski Collective's take on "Little Fiddle" or "The Laughing Clowns", then cash in your deposit on the hospital TV and ask them to turn off the life support machine, there's no hope for you.

The Collective are drummer extraordinaire Jeffrey Wegener and the rock solid bassist Peter Oxley, two storied players whose combined musical history and cooking finesse would fill a stack of scrapbooks or pile of pizza boxes (whichever is more appropriate.) With Ed, they've been traversing the country for a few years now, sometimes as a trio or sometimes in stripped-down drums-and-guitar mode. They're at the core of the most recent studio album, "Jean Lee And The Yellow Dog" and up there as one of the man's best ensembles. Which is saying something.

I don't know what it is about Ed Kuepper, an occasional capo, a row of effects pedals and six strings, but after all these years he still summons up some incredible sounds. Horns are central to "Eternally Yours", right? That glorious line is at its heart. Well here's a version where you scarcely miss it; Kuepper compensates while Monsieur Wegener traverses every piece of his kit.

If there's a criticism it's that "Collapse Board" doesn't match the original Laughing Clowns version for outright tension, but even so it has a certain molten magnificence that deserves a hearing.

"Ed Kuepper Live" spans 51 minutes and while it's contents won't surprise many it won't disappoint most either. Copies were pressed for the 2008 Kuepper supports to Nick Cave in Europe - if you're quick/smart you'll grab one at an Australian show near you. After they sell out, eBay might have to become your friend. - The Barman
