Oh hello! It's been a while! We've been a bit distracted by like, playing gigs and stuff... including some of our favoritest gigs to date: Phantom's First Friday at the start of September and of course, supporting The Cribs & Adam Green on the Irish legs of their tour in Dublin & Belfast. It's amazing what having proper soundsystems & monitor techs can do to your sound! ***sigh*** Anyways, we have a few more tricks up our sleeve for this post: We recorded an acoustic session and had a chat with Dave Fanning for
his RTE show The 11th hour. Dunno when it airs, I cannot for the life of me find scheduling info on the RTE website. We should, at this stage, point out we're not really
much of an acoustic band, this might be apparent if you
catch the program. Hmmm.
We have a few gigs lined up in the coming weeks that we'd love you to join us for. First we've got a great slot at this year's Hard Working Class Heroes Festival. We're playing Friday the 16th of October in the Twisted Pepper. We're on around 10pm. Then in November, Friday the 13th to be specific, we're playing the Twisted Pepper again, this time with Guilty Optics and Slurps. Finally, we got a sweet little writeup in the culture section of October's Image Magazine (on newsstands now!) This is what they had to say: Hoop Dreams:We do enjoy a beautiful pop artefact, and the debut
from Talulah Does The Hula - a Dublin-based quintet assembled from
ex-members of Neosupervital and The Chalets - is a thing of DIY beauty
indeed: a limited edition, numbered (only 200) and hand-printed CD,
containing tunes both delightful and catchy. It's such a shame that
John Hughes passed on recently, as we've just located his new favourite
band. Feck dance - let's art!
nice one eh? That is all dear friends. xoxox

Third time's the charm as they say - and in this case we've been in three issues in a row in Hot Press... Awww... what flattery!
We had a wee interview with Edwin McFee where we discuss Michael's hair among other things. It's a full page interview so we won't transcribe the whole thing, but here's a few highlights:
Headline Act - GIRL TALK "Pop-loving supergroup Talulah Does The Hula talk about expectations, ambitions and drummers with sweet haircuts. Plus, how they stepped outside the shadow of their previous bands - The Chalets and Neosupervital - to forge a whole new identity. ----- A few short months ago, Dublin-based pop combo Talulah Does The HUla burst onto the scene armed with tales of bad boyfriends and people with bricks for brains. Their sleek sound owes more than a little to old school acts like the Shangri-Las and Shirelles (with a little bit of April March and Dressy Bessy added in there too) and needless to say, anyone who's partial to a hook here at Hot Press marked them as ones to watch from day one. ----- "While Mike admittedly does have a sweet 'do, he's no slouch behind the 'kit either and current double A-side single 'Those Girls'/'Bad Boyfriend' proves that the passion far outweighs the fashion in Talulah Does The Hula.
Nice one!

The CultureShock show on NewsTalk 106-108fm asked us to come along to their studio for a chat and a sing song, and of course we obliged... The show was on earlier tonight, but if you missed it, we made a sneaky lil recording and put it here for you to have a listen to: TDTH on CultureShockAnd now for something completely different: Hot Press gave our single a wee review, sat right there alongside our photo on page 86. Nice! But we should point out that our drummer Michael was not actually a drum-machine before he joined our ranks... It does paint quite the picture though doesn't it?! Here's the actual text: HULA TROOPSFor new kids on the block, Talulah Does The Hula are quite a slick operation. This double a-side may be their debut single but there are no rough edges - instead we get polished vocals and tight harmonies on top of impeccable drumming. With two former Chalets and an ex-Neosupervital drummer in the mix, that's no surprise. A very professional-looking press release informs me the band's influences range from the Shangri-Las to (mystifyingly) the Cars. There isn't much New Wave discernible in these two light, summery, guitar-driven pop songs, but that's not to say they don't make for fun listening.

Ummm... can you say... completely and utterly speechless with delight? Well, we sure can after reading what Jim Carroll had to say about us in today's Irish Times: check. it. out. Times Review of TDTHNEW MUSIC: You have to wonder just what Rob Murtiff
would make of this new Dublin indie-glam outfit stepping out of the
shadows. A family court judge in New Zealand, Murtiff took issue with a
family last year for calling one of their kids Talulah Does The Hula
From Hawaii.
“The court is profoundly concerned about the very
poor judgment that this child’s parents have shown in choosing this
name,” said Mortiff, before ordering the then nine-year-old child to be
placed into court guardianship so her name could be changed. “It makes
a fool of the child and sets her up with a social disability and
handicap.”
But the all-girl-and-a- drummer-called-Mike band saw
that name as the perfect moniker to encapsulate what they were doing.
Featuring ex-members of The Chalets and Neosupervital, Talulah Does The Hula (from Dublin) are probably the sassiest new entrants of the year round these parts.
While
their previous outfits were all too often a case of smart ideas failing
to find smarter tunes, both sides of the equation are covered with
great panache here.
Sugar-sweet harmonies which soar up, up and
away? Check. Swinging, gum-chewing, swaggering suaveness to knock your
pop socks off? Check. Sunny-side-up melodies ripped, recycled and
respun from beneath the armpits of giants such as The Shangri Las and
The Ramones? That would be a darn tooting large check too.
Debut single
Bad Boyfriend/Those Girls is the first place they get to show
off these aces. Both tunes pack the kind of nonchalant heat last
encountered when biker gangs were roaming retro diners on summer nights
in search of cheap milkshakes. We can see the video already.

How awesome is this? Jackie Hayden has named our single the "Pick Of The Fortnight" in the latest issue of Hot Press! There we are in glorious black & white on page 30... see it? He also had some very kind words to say: "Dublin indie-pop fivesome (four girls, one boy) Talulah Does The Hula have issued 'Bad Boyfriend' and 'Those Girls' as a double A-side single. Sometimes, it suggests there's so much brilliant material that even the finest brains on the planet can't choose the one, or it can also hint at a surfeit of class C tunes that are really not up to it. Fortunately in the case of TDTH the former scenario shades it. Their sweet girly harmonies and swaggering rhythms go back to the cutie-pie female groups of the sixties. They toss in lumps of Beach Boys and Ramones-lite and give both tracks a third millenium shine. All of which are good things and should be encouraged." The track will be featured on a good few radio stations thoughout Ireland, and a New York Sirius Satellite Station... but if you'd like to OWN the tracks, you can do so by visiting the Road Records website for the physical CD - or visit one of several places on the internets to purchase the digital version... including as of today... iTunes!Huzzah!

Hey y'all! we're just now recovering from what was one mega weekend of our debut single release and a whole heap of Dublin gigs in support of it. First off, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU to everyone who came out and showed support at our single release last Thursday at Whelans. It meant so much to us, especially after the whole "venue update" debacle. The whole event completely exceeded our expectations. A big thank you as well to our support, Alice Stands, who was wonderful, and we hope to see more of her in the future. Also... another big thanks to those of you who made it all the way out to DunLaoghaire on a rainy Friday evening - and especially to Phil and State.ie for having us. Alongside what we like to consider our sister band, Disconnect 4, we played the Purty Loft which really is a mega venue you should all check out. Plus they have a sweet-ass beer garden, food, atmosphere (and amazing pizza next door). You can check out Phil's review of the night on State here: http://www.state.ie/talulah-does-the-hula-disconnect-4/THENNNNN Thanks to Tower Records & Road Records for giving us the opportunity to play some fun in-stores on Saturday. Tower was great fun as we were reunited, again, with Disconnect 4 and of course the cool-as-frick Funeral Suits. Road Records was so fun and relaxed, definitely the lovliest proprietors of music in the country. They actually sold out of the signed copies of the single if you can believe it! WOAH! (in a Joey Lawrence voice). You can still purchase the non-automagraphed single from either their Fade St. shop or online here: http://www.roadrecs.com/stock/shopping.php3?start=1&action=4&artist=TALULAH%20DOES%20THE%20HULAYou can watch our in-store appearance here! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJV4JvMlhLIIf you prefer mp3 versions of the trax you can go to downloadmusic.ie/talulahdoesthehula or To Buy 'Bad Boyfriend'
