Obliveon.de just uploaded a review for "The Hero, The Monster, The Myth", thanks to our brother Stephan Becker:

"Solitary Sabred impressively prove that Cyprus is by no means a metal exile...

Fans of all time classics like Liege Lord, Omen, Cirith Ungol and Manowar have new material for their player..."
8/10

Some new reviews have arrived!

"The best elements of the U.S. metal sound (mainly Cirith Ungol and Cauldron Born), make their appearance on this cd gathered in eight opuses. "Riding" rhythms, shredding guitars, war drums, and hellbent vocals...

Much like their influences, this album is not easy listening. But give it some time and it will show its true face... that of an epic metal masterpiece!...

One of the best releases of the year, and an example on how true heavy metal should be delivered..."

-Nick Kalagias, Morning Star Webzine, Greece , full review in Greek here : http://morningstarwebzine.blogspot.com/2009/10/solitary-sabred-hero-monster-myth.html

"First of all this is the revelation of the year for me, and my favorite album for 2009...

If  Solitary Sabred was in the dictionary, the following would be synonymous : Passion, Devotion, Dedication to the Cause, Heavy Metal!!!...

Since the first hearing this record alone brings to mind one thing : "Into Glory Ride" era Manowar... They join "Battle Cry", "...And the Cannons of Destruction have begun", "Open the Gates" and other genre classics...
"

-Heart of Steel, The Legion Chronicles Webzine, Portugal, full review in Portuguese here : http://thelegionchronicles.blogspot.com/2009/10/heavy-metal-reviews-solitary-sabred.html

"They are fighting their own war, the deepest underground metal...

Although Manowar is the main point of reference in the band's sound, we must also say these Cypriots have personality...

The downside is the poor production...

...If you are a true metal unconditional fan or if you think that metal is human, give them a chance because they don't lack good ideas"

Thanks to our Swordbrothers for the wonderful remarks and the constructive criticism, like we said in the past, being compared to some of our favorite bands is both an honor and a responsibility that makes us work that much harder!

On a final note, many have been asking for band merchandise, rest assured we have some things planned for release in the next couple of months! Keep checking the website and myspace for updates!

Have a great weekend!

Hail Swordbrothers and Shieldmaidens!!!

It's been a while since we last posted any news. Many things have been going on since the release of the album that have kept us busy, mostly promotion, distribution deals and -of course- rehearsals to get the 3-man line up back in shape (of course working 80+ hours per week on our day jobs doesn't help either)! So we felt a little update is in order, here goes...

First and foremost a HUGE THANKS from the bottom of our hearts to all the wonderful brothers and sisters who have been placing orders and sending us e-mails and messages every single day since the release of the album!!! We can't even begin to describe how happy it makes us that so many people seem to experience the same feelings listening to the album, that we feel playing the songs! The same kind of battle-hardened exileration that we ourselves seek when listening to our favorite bands! Being mentioned in the same sentence with GODS like Cirith Ungol, Helstar or Cauldron Born is the greatest honor we could ever hope for. We are not of course implying that we have reached such heights (or that we will ever manage to), but all these words of encouragement make us work ten times as hard in order to offer you even bigger and better things in the future!

The first "official" reviews have also started popping up, and it's pretty much been a "love or hate" relationship with critics so far! Some are really into the genre, sound and vibe and have been giving us really favorable remarks, while others can't stand the screams and "old school-ness" and have been giving us the axe! Everyone has of course their valid points and opinions, but on our behalf we can promise even more screams, bloody riffs and pounding drums, louder, heavier, more technical and more barbaric than before, because that's what we have in our hearts. We know it's not easy listening, and it sure as hell ain't for everyone, we know that it's not perfect, but we're sure as hell working hard on getting it there. However what it is, is music from 3 metal maniacs that live to hear the blood curling screams of Skullview, the molten riffs of Omen, and the lyrical opuses of Heir Apparent, and hundreds more bands like these! Whatever you have, or will listen to from this band, will always carry the spirit of battle and the angry roars of demons. Of that you can be sure!!!

Here's part of a review from Metal Invader, Greece, many thanks to our brother Chris Papadakis:

"Manilla Road, Cirith Ungol, Omen and old Manowar are the main influences of the band that delivers its Epic Metal in a dark, obscure, meanwhile powerful way. The record is filled with a strange and magical atmosphere that takes the listener back into the pantheon of Epic Metal. It is more than a fact that Solitary Sabred have spent half their lives listening to albums like Into Glory Ride, King Of The Dead and Battle Cry trying to capture the magic. Through darkness comes the fire and blood my friends… this is the main spirit of this album… like the classic ones. Hymns like Slayer’s Oath, Hammers Of Ulric, Solitary Sabred and Trojan Hero are the fire and the blood of this album. Songs that will take you by storm… but do not expect happy melodies and tales about trolls and hobbits in here… only the Bloodlust of Battle and the Power of Fire and Steel in the days of high adventure. Epic Metal my friends, seriously...

...Enough written. Grab this opus now with NO second thought."

The Spanish site Metal Final has included the album in their top list for 2009 : http://metalfinal.blogspot.com/2009/02/wizard-thor-grave-digger-ballads-of.html

On a final note, apart from rehearsing we have also composed some new material, two of the songs we played in our summer gigs ("Redeemer" and "Disciples of the Sword") as well as a couple of fresh ones we can't wait to try out live soon! We have also (finally!) launched the official website @ www.solitarysabred.com , where apart from the latest news we will also be posting articles regarding the lyrics and other band related stuff, so check it out!!!

So we bid farewell to those of you that had the patience to read thus far (and those that scrolled straight to the bottom), with another big THANKS FOR THE SUPPORT!!! Like we said on many an occasion, you gave us wings to fly, and the flight has only just begun!!!

p.s. : On another note, the band is once again a trio, since our comrade Josh will soon be pursuing his guitar studies abroad. We would like to thank him for pledging his bass to the Sabred cause this past year, and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors. The band will hence forth remain a trio, since Petros will be resuming his dual duties on vocals and bass on a permanent basis.....

.. ..

We've also uploaded some pictures from our latest live at Power of the Night Festival IV (courtesy of our friends Chris Kosti, George Karadjas and Andreas Georgiadis), thanks to the organisers (Rust & Hardraw) for inviting us second year in a row, and a huge hail to all the people who attended, you guys were amazing!

Swordbrothers and Shieldmaidens,

Sharpen your weapons, sound the horns and scream your warcries,  because the time is drawing nigh! The album mixing and mastering has been completed, and come Monday “The Hero, The Monster, The Myth” is off to Greece for printing!

The estimated time of release is mid-late July, so to help ease the wait we’ve uploaded two full songs off the album, opener “Slayer’s Oath”, and the anthemic “Hammers of Ulric”. Looking forward to hearing what you think!

On another note, we’ll be playing at Power of the Night festival IV on July 4th, we’ll be uploading the poster as soon as it’s ready. Thanks to the guys for inviting us, there’s a strange sense of deja-vu in the band right now since exactly a year ago we gave our first live show at Power of the Night III. And looking back on this past year, we can safely say it was by far the best and most productive time of our lives, and we feel the journey has only just begun! Hope you will all join us for the ride!

Swordbrothers and Shieldmaidens, hope this update finds you all well and productive!

it's been an adventurous last few months for the band. We've been hard pressed between recordings, rehearsals and overtime at our day jobs, but we can safely say it was all worth it, and we'd do it again in a heartbeat! The album is finally complete, and we're currently going through the final details in the mixing process. You can hear a rough mix of "Avengers of Set" and its intro, "Anvil of Crom", on our myspace player. Let us know what you think!

A huge thanks to our producer, Alex Makris of Network Project Studios, who has been the 5th member of the band throughout the entire process, sacrificing many a Friday night and offering his insightful observations to help us out. Much appreciated!

If everything goes according to plan, "The Hero, The Monster, The Myth" should be invading your stereos in July! As always, thanks for your interest, looking forward to hearing your comments on the song!

Swordbrothers and Shieldmaidens,

First of all we’d like to apologize for the lack of updates in the past couple of months, but between our day jobs and the studio recordings, time has been a commodity we’ve had in short supply (much like sleep!)

But things on the battlefield are looking pretty good! The recordings are about 95% complete, since the drums, guitars, bass and vocals have all been laid down, and we only have a few details and some backing vocals to finalize, meaning that we’ll hopefully start mixing by the end of the month! We feel that the extra studio time was really worth the delay, and we’re sure that once you hear the final product you’ll agree! A big thanks to our producer, Alex Makris, for all the late Friday nights sacrificed, listening to hysterical high pitched screams for hours on end! Much appreciated!

We also wanted to post the album artwork on this update, but after reviewing it we felt it didn't turn out as great as we'd hoped! And since the game plan with this release was to be completely satisfied with all aspects –not just the music- we decided to go on a completely new direction. However, below you’ll find the Solitary Sabred twin snake emblem, designed by kick-ass tattoo artist Kurt Janson (www.tatto-k.lv), based on a concept by Achilleas. Thanks Kurt!

As always, we truly appreciate your continuing support and interest in the band! Start cranking up your expectation meters, because the album is drawing near and it’s a BEAST!!!

Take care and keep the faith,
The Bloodlust is Sacred!

Swordbrothers and Shieldmaidens,

We hope the new year kicked off with the best of omens for each and every one of you! It sure did for Solitary Sabred, since we jumpstarted 2009 with our first live as a quartet, in front of an enthusiastic crowd and alongside some great bands. It was also the first live for the mighty Sabrexcalibur, the huge sword of steel that will be accompanying us on stage hence forth, made by the band's official blacksmith mr. Slash (hail brother!). A huge thnx to Cannibal Bleeding, Inferno & Darkness Inside for inviting us to the event.

...But wait, did I just say quartet?!? Yup, we've been searching high and low, and finally the right person for the bass slot has been found! So we'd like to take this space to welcome mr. Josh Ioannou to the band. Appart from being a professional guitar player, Josh is also a close friend of ours, and probably the biggest fan of Virgin Steele in the known universe, so as you can imagine he fit right in! He will also be playing most of the bass parts on the upcoming debut album, allowing Petros to focus solely on his vocal duties.

Here's a pic from the live @ Red on the 4th of January, more on the way...

As always, thnx to everyone who attended the show, and to everyone who's been supporting the band since day one! We hope that the album will meet your expectations!

Happy new year,
THE BLOODLUST IS SACRED, SOLITARY SABRED!
-Petros, Jimmys, Achilleas, Josh-
