In the spirit of holiday giving and because we love you all so much, we have decided to give away one song per person! All you have to do is message us which song you would like along with your email address and we will send you a link where you can download that song!

This little giveaway will run until tomorrow night at 9PST as to allow you all plenty of time to get a free song:)

In other news, we have our latest song "Hunter" coming out on Wednesday so be sure and check that out.

We have been so busy with recording and trying to get all 5 of our promised EPs out this year that we've hardly had anytime to book any shows/tours but look for some shows coming real soon.

Also, we have decided to release our very first full length record later this winter/spring. We are pretty confident that this album will mark a new chapter in Archeological history, one that will include a lot of touring both in the US and abroad.

Love Love
Jason and Daniel

PS-We had some issues with iTunes last week but you should all be able to easily find Northern Affair up there now!

In the wee hours of the frost bitten Portland morning we posted our not so new, but previously unreleased, song Sling.

It is on our upcoming release "Northern Affair", and while its not 100% reminiscent of the direction we are currently going in, we thought we'd give you a taste:)

In other news, "Northern Affair" drops this coming Tuesday (the 24th) and I think we have some special stuff planned. So sorry about not being able to put up download links on our Last.FM, something's wrong with their hosting capabilities as of late.

Finally, we are doing a little contest starting today and running through 2009. Here's how it goes.

To enter, simply go to our Last.FM or Facebook site, add us as a friend and send us a message or comment telling us you would like to be entered into the contest...its that easy!!!

We will compile all the names and select a random winner who will receive....drum roll please, a song written by us, about them!

That's right, we will compose an entirely original song about you, your life or whatever you like really. When we select the winner we will gather the necessary details, record it, send you a copy as well as post it on our site.

So in summary, check out the new song, the albums coming out on Tuesday and enter the contest:)

Love you all,
Jason, Daniel and Ben

Hey family and friends!!

We have been laying low a bit as of late but are almost ready to debut a brand new album followed by another album in just a few weeks! To celebrate, we will be releasing a song that we have been performing live for a bit and will be on our new record.

The song, "White Walls", signifies a bit of a change for us...definitely delving into some different subject matter and new territory stylistically but we are oh so excited and just have to share it with you.

Furthermore, we will be releasing a new song every Wednesday from now until 2010!!! So please let us know how life has been, what you are up to and how you like the new stuff!!

Cordially,

Jason, Daniel and Ben

Why hello! I am on my balcony over looking Clay street, saved from the heat by the beautiful trees that surround our building and thought I would write you all a little note letting you know whats up with the band.

First off, we moved! We were living in a neighborhood called Goose Hollow in SW Portland and after taking many walks around the Park blocks, and leafy goodness that surrounds certain parts of downtown Portland, decided to relocate. We couldn't be happier and since moving have found ourselves inundated with new material to record...new songs just keep spouting forth, so we have been hard at work trying to lay down as much of this new material as possible. As some of you may know, we are releasing 5 EPs this year...a daunting task to get done due to the number of songs to write but even more daunting at the thought of how much time it takes to record all of them! Throw in moving, touring, business matters and just trying to have a life and you have yourself a recipe for a crazy busy year. All that to say we have a bunch of music to deliver to you really soon and we are overwhelmingly excited to see what you think.

We are planning on releasing Northern Affair on iTunes at the end of August and the next record at the end of October. In between that time we will be on a 27 date tour, hopefully seeing many of you out there on the road and finally getting to catch up!

In the midst of all this, we are also planning on releasing another music video as well as releasing some fun short films about our life in Portland.

Just as an FYI, if you prefer to purchase our album on hard copy or would like a t-shirt, we now have an online store which carries the aforementioned items and we will be adding more t-shirts and albums as they are completed.

Really hope to talk to all of you really soon and are very interested in how your summer is going...so by all means, let us know!

Love you all,
Jason (Daniel is working on something but sends his love as well:)
July 14, 2009 - Tuesday
We know what you're thinking...this is a shameless ploy to get you all out to our show but we assure you its not.

We have a surplus of t-shirts and cds from our last tour and want to get rid of a few so...

If you come to our show on Thursday all you have to do is come up to our merch booth and ask about a free t-shirt or cd (sorry only one per person). We may not have enough to go around but if we run out we will figure out a way to make it up to you.

The show is at Mississippi Pizza here in Portland on Thursday night (8PM). We will be playing with our good friend (and music reporter) Annie Bethancourt so it will be worth the trip!

Can't wait to see you all!

Jason and Daniel

PS-For those of you that live a bit too far away to make it, we have some goodies in store fore you as well!

Here it comes! We are rolling out our latest album starting this week!

When I was really young I used to look forward to Friday's because I could watch Full House and Family Matters in one night! (somehow that's not nearly as exciting now) We are going to try and recreate this end of the week excitement by debuting a new song (or at least a preview) every Friday from now until our new album is released.

This Friday we will start with the title track to our new album, "Northern Affair". Since its been so long since we released a new song, we thought its only fair if we give you guys a chance to get some free music from us so we are having a mini-contest where you can win a download of the song of your choice. Here's what you have to do:

When we debut the song on Friday, simply listen to the lyrics and try and guess what the song is all about. If you do this you will get a free copy of whichever song you want! You don' t even have to be right about the meaning!

So make sure and get on MySpace at 12:01 Friday, Pacific Standard Time and check out the new song and let us know what you think!

Love you all!

Jason and Daniel

Hello Everyone!! We really haven't blogged, so to speak, so we have decided to start updating you all both here and in our "The Scoop" section.

With that said we'd like to use this blog to update everyone on exactly what is happening with Archeology at the moment.

First off, we are very close to finishing up our 3rd EP of the year entitled "Northern Affair". We are really excited about this album as it marks a bit of a change for us. We explored some pretty heavy topics on this record and musicly tried to shake things up a bit. Currently we are just waiting for allergies to die down so we can track vocals (otherwise it will sound like we have Billy Corgan for a lead singer). We have entertained the idea of traveling to find a place where the allergies die down but we are going to experiment with medication first. We will, however, be posting a live video of previews of all the songs on the album before we start dropping the songs on here.

We finished our very first tour back in May and are proud to say it was an overwhelming success. Thanks so much to all of you who came out. Since then we've been pretty busy with recording but have managed to sneak out and play a show with Forgive Durden and a free show at Urban Outfitters to help benefit the Oregon Food Bank. We have a show coming up in July at Mississippi here in Portland with our good friend Annie Bethancourt and may be adding some shows in August. After that we have our big Fall tour that will include some phenomenal shows that we are really excited about and then we will be heading out on a college tour that will encompass a few months of non-stop college shows (most of these will be accessable to everyone so even if you don't go to the school feel free to come!).

As far as our personal lives go, Daniel is happily battling the fierce adversary that are his allegies. In between fits of sneezing while recording he has been researching various Oregon myths and oddities(including legends of moving stumps and shapeshifters)...I expect a written report on his findings. Ben has been being Ben and playing drums. He has read a few books lately (I think On The Road and maybe some Kafka), and has really enjoyed taking Maddy for walks and breathing in (without sneezing as he is allergy free) the glorious Porland summer air. I have been dividing my time between recording, camping trips with both Dan and Ben (some archeological trips as well) and, like Ben, taking Maddy for walks. Porltand is such a glorious place to spend a summer. I highly recommend it for all of you who are looking for a road trip.

Let us know how you're doing!

Cordially,
The Boys

PRESS

The Deli Magazine: Album of the month "Wildwood Hymns"

"Archaeology is poised to help corner a niche sound in Portland done just as well by bands like Derby"

"The Wildwood Hymns feels its way around a theme involving historical figures, and dives into decidedly unsubtle issues like homelessness, as well as enslaved and executed 1940's French secret agents. The results are varied, especially when you factor in the modicum of cheeriness employed by vocalists Daniel Walker and Jason Davis"

Willamette Week: Feature

"peg the boys of Archeology as candidates to become Portland’s new twee sweethearts"

"Listening to The Wildwood Hymns, the second in Archeology’s planned series of five EPs, it’s clear a life of introspection has tempered the group’s giddy pop ditties. "

Portland Mercury

"Currently two EPs into an ambitious five-part series that covers a ridiculous range of topics, the one unifying factor for Archeology is their commitment to weaving bouncy melodies into a template of uncomplicated acoustic songs."

"the city of Portland is the lyrical focus for their Change of Address EP, a well-balanced selection of songs rooted in twee, yet with an expansive scope of pop stylings to offer the listener." get your pop fix from Archeology with plenty of cash to spare.

Inklings.tv Feature:

"In a world where clichéd power chords and screechy, high-pitched vocals dominate the airwaves, Portland-based band Archeology decides to bring a more lighthearted approach to music, emphasizing the importance of melody and rhythm in their songs. This approach, in turn, lets the band create a sound that encompasses jangly, feel good all into one album."

"Their first release, entitled Change of Address combines unconventional instruments and likable lyrics that appeal to anyone who is looking for a new sound in music today"

"MCMXIV, which has received over 40,000 plays on their Myspace page, ingeniously layers countless instruments, ranging from the glockenspiel to a cathedral organ, and it evidently channels indie rock influences from the likes of Eliot Smith and others"
