Hey, everyone!
I haven't posted in a long time and am sorry for leaving people without news.
Now that we're up to about 1,000 cranes, I'm mulling how best to deliver them. I'm looking into using frequent flyer miles to actually go to Japan (!!!). I'd like to take along a Japanese-language version of the Yay! Scales that I make. (See voluptuart.com.) The dial of a Yay! Scale reads compliments instead of numbers. The outside is sparkly and fun. I'd like to invite people in Japan to step on the Yay! Scale and enjoy a free compliment. Everyone who participates would receive a fat origami crane as a thank-you gift, complete with accompanying tag of authenticity/explanation. I would love to get media coverage of this action.
If you know anyone in Japan (esp. people who speak Japanese and who might enjoy joining me in the streets for an hour or so of fun Yay! Scale outreach), please let me know!
Also, I've set up a Mixi website (like myspace only in Japan) in my name. If you or your friends are on Mixi, please link with me!

I went to the mail box today and found gigantic boxes full of fat cranes from the brilliant and total-fun Joy Nash and from the compassionate and busy-fingered Kathy Barron. Sandy Schaffer also sent along a nice, fat envelope full of cranes!!!
I will start counting tomorrow, but I have a feeling we're getting near to 500 cranes.
Thank you to everyone!!!

Hi!
You're invited to a fat crane folding party in San Francisco this Sunday afternoon at 2pm at a cozy location near 24th St. & York. (E-mail me for the address: marilyn@fatso.com.)
Also, I hear rumors that the super-fabulous Joy Nash will be hosting a fat crane party in LA the same day. How cool is that?
Yay! - Marilyn Wann

Big fat thanks to Michelle for sending in the very first fat crane to the P.O. Box. You can even see her crane in her comment, on this site. It's made from the flyleaf of her FAT!SO? book, which is so very cool.
Michelle makes me realize that it's totally okay to mail cranes flat, in a regular envelope, rather than all poofed up, in a shoebox. Way easier! Hurray, Michelle!!!

Hi:
The Fat Cranes project is up now! Please join in the fun of celebrating weight diversity with squares of paper!!!
All of the instructions for folding a fat origami crane should be available in the photos and videos area of this site. If you go through the photos, whenever a slightly difficult fold happens, there will be a video to demonstrate that move. If you double-click on the photo, you will find a link in the first comment box for that photo, making it easier to go directly to the video for that fold.
If you encounter any difficulties, please let me know! I'm happy to explain the fat crane fold.
I would like to thank and honor Sandy Schaffer, who invented the fat origami fold, with 3 key alterations to the traditional flying crane. Sandy is a fat activist and fitness trainer in New York City. Thank you, Sandy!
Thank you to *YOU* for getting involved with the 1,000 Fat Cranes project!!!
Yay! - Marilyn
