ESTATE OF SUBLIME LEAD SINGER BRADLEY NOWELL ISSUES STATEMENT REGARDING THE USE OF NAME SUBLIME

BY EX-MEMBERS BUD GAUGH AND ERIC WILSON

LOS ANGELES (October 23, 2009) - The Estate of Bradley Nowell, Sublime’s late singer, guitarist and primary songwriter, issued a statement today regarding the use of the band's name by Sublime bassist Eric Wilson and Sublime drummer Floyd “Bud” Gaugh.

Sublime members Floyd “Bud” Gaugh and Eric Wilson, along with new vocalist Rome Ramirez, who performed with Gaugh and Wilson earlier this year, are scheduled to perform under the name “Sublime” on Saturday, October 24th at Cypress Hill’s 2009 Smokeout Festival.  Sublime, with its original members, has not played together since their final performance with Nowell on May 24, 1996. The advertising and promotion of the new group as "Sublime" has been done without the consent of the Estate of the late Bradley Nowell (consisting of widow Troy Nowell, father Jim “Papa” Nowell, and son Jakob Nowell).  The Estate intends to take appropriate legal action to protect Brad’s intentions, as well as the legacy and integrity of his body of work.

Nowell’s family released the following statement today:

It was recently announced that Sublime bassist Eric Wilson and Sublime drummer Floyd ‘Bud’ Gaugh are ‘reuniting’ and teaming with singer and guitarist Rome Ramirez in a band they intend to call ‘Sublime.’ Prior to his untimely passing, both Bud and Eric acknowledged that Brad Nowell was the sole owner of the name Sublime. It was Brad's expressed intention that no one use the name Sublime in any group that did not include him, and Brad even registered the trademark ‘Sublime’ under his own name.

As Brad's heirs, and with the support of his entire family, we only want to respect his wishes and therefore have not consented to Bud and Eric calling their new project ‘Sublime.’ We have always supported Bud and Eric's musical endeavors and their desire to continue to play Sublime's music. We wholeheartedly supported Bud, Eric and the many talented members of the Sublime posse that formed the Long Beach Dub All-Stars, soon after Brad's death, to honor him through their original recordings, live performances and Sublime music until they disbanded in 2001. But, out of respect for Brad's wishes, we have always refused to endorse any group performing as ‘Sublime,’ and now with great reluctance feel compelled to take the appropriate legal action to protect Brad's legacy.

Our hope is that Brad's ex-bandmates will respect his wishes and find a new name to perform under, so as to enhance the ‘Sublime’ legacy without the confusion and disappointment that many fans have expressed upon seeing the announcement.

Peace and Love to all, ....

Troy, Jakob & Jim ‘Papa’ Nowell.

Hey guys what's up!

Wanted to let you all know that in support of 2009’s “Record Store Day”, we will be releasing an exclusive limited edition 7” single.  Limited to 3,000 copies, the single will go fast, and is available ONLY through the independent retailers that sponsor 2009’s event.

For those of you who don’t know, Record Store Day is on Saturday April 18, 2009 and is a celebration of independent record stores across the country and abroad.  These stores have always been the life-blood of bands, including Sublime, and without them, there would be a lot fewer outlets for great music.

Check out the list of participating stores and all the great bands taking part in the event.  Hopefully there’s one near you, and you can go down, support your local indie retailer, and have a blast.

Here’s the Track List:

Side A:  April 29, 1992 (Leary)
Side B:  Superstar Punani

For all of you true fans who keep coming back to the Sublime page and giving your respects, thanks a million. The band appreciates your love and dedication to the music and keeping Bradley's spirit alive.

For all of you who use the comments section for all of those LAME ASS applications, if you keep on doing it you will be blocked from the page!!

This means no more Pets, South Park Characters, or any of those other shitty apps that fill up the comments section. This is your one and only warning!!!

We've tried to turn off the comments from apps, but lame ass myspace won't accept the change

For all of you artists who are trying to get your music out and get others to check you out, keep your postings to a minimum or we may have to to the same to you. People don't want to see you posting 3-4 times a day...that's just not cool.

Keep coming by in the coming weeks, and you'll see new layouts, and more cool stuff from the band.

Peace!!

There has been some confusion over the years about what Bud and Eric have been doing since Sublime stopped playing in 1996, and we'd like to clear things up once and for all.

First and foremost, neither Eric nor Bud are playing in a "Sublime Tribute Band". If the two got back together and formed a new band, this would be big news. You would read about it in national publications, and see announcements on the internet.

Please be aware that there is a band touring the US and abroad that is claiming to have "Original Members of Sublime", as well as one of the members going as far as claiming to actually BE Eric Wilson at times. They go under a number of aliases, including Sublime Remembered, and Sublime Unauthorized and The LBC. We Urge you to NEVER go to see them perform expecting to see original members of Sublime or anyone actually affiliated with the band Sublime, and to pass this information on to all of your friends and other fans of Sublime. While the band has agreed – In Writing – to cease and desist from their wrongful activities, they continue to act in violation of a court order on this subject.

This is not the respect that Sublime's legacy deserves, and these people don't deserve any attention, support or financial gain!!

Now, to update you on what's up with Bud and Eric these days.

After Bradley's passing in 1996, Bud and Eric formed the Long Beach Dub All-Stars along with Field Marshall, Opie Ortiz, Jack Mannes, Ras-1, and Tim Wu. Ikey Owens, now in The Mars Volta, performed with them for a short time, as did Todd Foreman. The band, with Miguel handling most production duties, produced two albums. Right Back was released in 1999, and Wonders of the World had the unenviable release date of 9/11/01. The band toured the world, playing both LBDAS originals, and Sublime classics but in 2002, they decided to go their separate ways.

Bud then formed Eyes Adrift a with Nirvana's Krist Novoselic, and The Meat Puppets Curt Kirkwood. They released the album Eyes Adrift in 2002 and toured the country. Bud's new band, Del Mar will be unveiling itself soon, with concert announcements to follow. Bud also drums in studio sessions, and will soon launch the website www.BudGaugh.com.

Eric Wilson formed Long Beach Shortbus, along with Ras-1, Falling Idols' Trey Pangborn, and drummer Damion Ramirez. Shortbus released the album Flying Ship of Fantasy, in 2005 and continue to record and tour, playing their originals as well Sublime's songs. You can keep up to date on Shortbus happenings by going to www.myspace.com/longbeachshortbus

On a final note, we'd like to express that we do support and respect the true "Tribute Bands" such as Badfish, Wrong Way, 40 Oz, or Emilbus, that do simply pay tribute to Sublime's music, and keep the legacy alive.
