I Want It To Be 1983 Again  OUT NOW!!!!!!!
DTRASH126 !!!

Here's the official DTRASH Blurb:

Al Al this time bowls a strike with this puzzlingly brilliant release of new material - Glooping glitches' rhythms pitterpatter through the experimental nostalgic-noisescapes shaped by Atari 2600-laced days of yonder.

Style/Genre: Rhythmic Noise, IDM, Breakcore, Experimental, Future Jazz

Here is a track-listing and partial "Break-down" of the tracks:

1. Why Doesn't This Work?

Features Aaron Funk's (Venetian Snares)  XoXBoX (a reverse-engineered tb303),  a Yamaha FS1r previously owned by Aaron and a Kurzweill K2000r. All three pieces refused to work properly, hence the title. The voice-bit is from a malfunctioning radio-show.

2.
May 29 and 30, 1991

Some of you may have this in a longer form on Noise3. This piece was recorded on those dates live to 4-track hence the title. It is placed here to recreate the "Second-Song Curse" found on many records where the first track is a fast hot number and the second one is the slowest or most banal mid-tempo number on the album. The ole 'go-real-fast-then-slam-on-the-brakes' routine. However, it is a very good track.

3.
Mono's

So-named because all of the gear used is monotimbral (only 1 MIDI channel each) or "One-At-A-Time-Please". The intro sample mangled itself, so it earned the honour of opening the track.

4.
MP1983

Composed entirely of sounds I made in 1983 with junk metal, radios, toys etc etc fed into my computer. Plus a bit appearance by the Korg Poly-800, released in 1983. The title is an obvious pun on the format. Obvious, but still good for a laugh....

5.
Two Thousand

Made on the Korg MS2000r and the Kurzweill K2000r, hence the exciting title. Plus a sample given to me by Aaron.

6.
Mr. Chinaski

Dedicated to and about the beloved Mr. Chinaski, Aaron's cat who passed away far too prematurely. Features the voices of Kakarookee, Bobo, Fluffmaster and Mr. Squirrel. As well as opening and spooning out cat food. In 7/8 and 7 minutes long because Mr. Chinaski was a mere 7 when he passed away.

7.
Mono's Return

A "sequel" to Mono's. Same idea, but also features the Korg Prophecy previously owned by Fanny.
Classic video game sample bears no introduction.

8.
Music For The Easy-Listening

Pulled from the second casette release called Music For The Severely Conscious. The first 23 copies came inside a hand-hollowed out book back in 1986.

9.
That Idea

That Idea is a very special place. Features a Theremin solo and my sing/chant about....stuff....plus a curious sample from a sci-fi movie that curiously chose names that ended up as music-related company names (Gibson, Marantz etc...you figure them out). Crusty sounds by my beloved Kawai K1r synth.

10.
Unstable Fencelink

Made of a sample from a band I was in called Twisting Ground (guitar, bass, samples synths) plus some other sounds including a live-to-air improv with records and tapes. Atmospheric guitar-reggae-pop? Made around the same time as Humdrum Drum parts 1 & 2 and Dimetrodon.

GET IT HERE:
http://www.dtrashrecords.com/   click on MP3s, scroll down to 126
http://www.archive.org/details/DTRASH126-NotHalf-IWantItToBe1983Again
(features bonus track Live 2008/10/19 Live Kelly Ruth Art Opening...for some unknown reason....33 minutes, ambient spacey goodness)

plus some other places I'm sure.......

Ok, it's time to come clean....I have a Last.Fm page.
It's here:

http://www.last.fm/music/not+half

Now the secret is out...it has a few album's worth of material on it. I wanted to see how many people would find it by accident or by personal invite from me....which is really a way of covering up my laziness at telling anyone about it. The time for action is now. Go have a look right now. I'll wait........................

How not to write a review #1

Try actually listening to the album BEFORE you write the review, Tony.

Any one else out there have a copy of this disc with 12 songs on it?

I thought #11 was 6 seconds of silence and #12 was a spoken word bit....

Pretty funny...

Not Half - Radioactive Monster Cats From Planet XLG-5
CD-R, D-Trash Records, 2008

Not Half -

Okay, the first thing I noticed was that this was originally released in 2007 on the now extinct Sublight. That label was reputable for releasing high quality music form the likes of Enduser to VenetianSnares, so this initially put this release in good stead and it was with this enthusiasm that I approached this release.
I am one for packaging and good quality artwork and unfortunately this has neither. Frankly, it's appalling. I will give this area of attention as much as they have, and that's nearly zero. Wonderful.
So what about the music? Let me re-phrase the word 'music' to 'ummm, I don't know, random noises or something'. That's a little cruel as there are moments on this album where it does step into the 'song' territory and it's these rare moments they should have clung onto with dear life, where this unfortunately is just 12 pointless tracks that fall apart for no discernable reason. Lots of glitch, lots of screaming whining electronics, bells and whistles and whatever else they found in the kitchen sink, wrapped up with rather rough and flat sounding drum patterns make up the majority of this release. I get the feeling 'NotHalf' really tried to be clever here and doing something 'whacky' or'zany', but they just come across a little pretentious. I like these tracks as much as I like those two words, which is basically not at all.
A pointless C-division album that will get lost in a scene where there is such high quality control amongst its upper echelons.

NEW SONG!!!!!
Persiflage
The B-Side to the One-sided Mp3 Promo Single for I Want It To Be 1983 Again
(The A-Side is the song Free)
Check it out!

persiflage (uncountable)

  1. Good-natured banter; raillery.
After the third strike he returned to the bench to face the inevitable persiflage from his teammates.
  2. Frivolous, lighthearted discussion of a topic.
Polite dinner calls for persiflage rather than in-depth possibly offensive discussion.
