Melbourne band Starting Sunday, have been selected as one of six bands to support FAKER for the second round of the JD Set tour which kicks off in August, with voting commencing for the final two bands on Monday, June 11. Starting Sunday involvement in the JD Set follows on from the legacy of 2008’s successful inaugural series which included bands such as Angelas Dish, Braindead Lovers, Borne, Calling All Cars, Casual Projects, Calerway, Galleon, and the Lazys and more recently in 2009 with Glass Ceiling and The Shiny Brights. The two bands with the most votes will hit the road in August with FAKER who are currently on a national tour supporting pop-sensation PINK! Voting kicks off Monday 11th June at www.thejdset.com.au and runs until Sunday 28th June with the tour taking place at the beginning of August. This news comes after a hectic couple of months for Starting Sunday having just unleashed their second self-titled EP and currently on their national tour in support of the release. In 2008, the band became the first unsigned band to perform on an episode of Network Ten’s ‘Neighbours’ in August [2008] which was broadcast throughout Australia and the UK and also achieved sync placements throughout Channel 7’s Beijing Olympic Games coverage [2008] and on Network Ten’s Rove whilst ending the year with a special appearance at the 2008 ARIA Music Awards. The band has also supported Behind Crimson Eyes (AUS), The Butterfly Effect (AUS), Dopamine (UK); as well as a support slot on the Taste Of Chaos tour playing alongside bands including The Used, Rise Against, Aiden and the Gallows. Starting Sunday self-titled EP at retail now

Brisbane rockers, Falling Short, have built a huge name for themselves in 2008 having released the band’s second EP which gave the four-piece their first spins on Australian radio with the single ‘Supernova’. In 2007, their single ‘Billboards’ held the coveted number one position on the Triple J Unearthed National Charts for four weeks and the band, who has also supported American rockers Switchfoot and Antiskeptic, also became national finalists in the Music Oz Awards in the same year.
Fresh from their appearance at the 2008 ARIA Music Awards in Sydney, Melbourne five-piece Front Counter return to Brisbane in support of the band’s second single ‘Take Me Away’ which features on the band’s debut EP titled ‘A Toast To You and Me’. Front Counter have made a big splash on the Australian music front in 2008 having released their debut single single ‘Whats Your Name’ which earned them a performance on Network Ten’s NEIGHBOURS in August, and also broadcast throughout the UK and Europe in November ahead of the band’s UK release. They’ve also previously supported Bon Jovi and the Taste Of Chaos tour. .. ...... Brisbane rockers, Alibi, round up the lineup. Front Counter, fresh from their 13 date tour through August/September to launch their debut EP titled ‘A Toast To You and Me’, will be walking the red carpet at the 2008 ARIA Music Awards in Sydney on October 19.
The band will rub shoulders with the who’s who of the Australian music including Gabrielle Cilmi, The Living End, The Getaway Plan, British India and more.
Melbourne five-piece, Front Counter, return with the EP’s second single ‘Take Me Away’ which has hit radio this month and will embark on a whirlwind tour of Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne before the year’s out. “The song is about, wanting to get out of everything,” explains Rhys Thompson (Guitar/Vocals). “After a while, it sometimes starts to seem as though you haven't actually been able to take a breath for a long time.”
“We wrote the lyrics when we were in the middle of a very stressful and hectic period. We had just had a lineup change, so we were desperately trying to get our stuff sorted for upcoming gigs, whilst trying to write new songs, organise studio time, as well as each of us having to juggle our own work and relationship commitments. There are only seven days in a week, and it can sometimes get a bit much.”
“For me, the song was also written just after I had finished uni. I moved from doing a few hours of uni and a few hours of work a week, to spending pretty much my whole week either working my job or playing with the band. So I guess that amount of commitment freaked me out, and sometimes all you want to do is get away.”
‘A Toast To You and Me’ was recorded in 2007 with accredited music producer Richard Stolz (Behind Crimson Eyes, Bodyjar, After The Fall) and Lindsay Gravina (Magic Dirt, Shihad, Faker, Jet, The Living End). The EP’s debut single ‘Whats Your Name’ picked up rotation on Triple M, community radio and Triple J in August, and the band performed on an episode of Network Ten’s ‘Neighbours’ in August broadcast throughout Australia, UK and Europe.
”Front Counter have the knack for writing ridiculously catchy songs which after a few listens, stick in your head like leprosy” – Rave Magazine

"The View From Afar" is the brand new EP from indie pop rockers Avalon Drive, and it will be released on 4 October 2008.
Fresh from a successful two months of gigs across four states, the EP release caps off a highly successful year for the Brisbane 4 piece so far, which saw them also being crowned the winners of the second Tooheys Extra Dry uncharTED competition.
"It's been stressful, hectic and amazing," guitarist Shane O'Keeffe describes the writing process. "It's definitely a more mature sound than what has been heard from previous Avalon Drive." Adds singer Damion Page, "We have really put our hearts into this EP and couldn't be prouder."
"The View From Afar" was recorded with Matt Bartlem (The Butterfly Effect) and mixed by Forrester Savell (Karnivool, Mammal). The first single from the EP is the infectious 'Last One Standing', which hits radio on the 20th of September, and a pre-order campaign commences Saturday, September 20 where fans to order the EP through JB HiFi (instore or online) will receive a signed copy upon release.
Prior to taking out uncharTED, Avalon Drive spent much of their career on the road, touring with bands including INXS, The Veronicas, Fall Out Boy, All American Rejects, Yellowcard and Matchbook Romance. They also did a stint as ROVE's houseband in 2006!
