D-Trash Records in Toronto has issued a new Phallus Uber Alles release, the Heatwave EP.
This is the first in a series of five PUA EPs, collectively titled "Five Fingers Make a Fist," to be released by the label over the course of 2009. Next up are the Brawl at the Boys and Girls Club EP and Cockpit EP, which contain remixes by PUA as well as a slew of breakcore and industrial artists. After that will be the Fuck the Radio EP, with over an hour of interpretations by Schizoid, D-Trash bands and other artists. The final installation in the series will be the Nur Ein Bisschen EP, with a selection of new and unreleased cuts as well as remixes by other artists.
The Heatwave EP expands on PUA's track from last year's Atari Teenage Riot tribute compilation, "The Virus Has Been Spread." The band took one last stab at expanding and mutating their homage to the band that started them down the digital hardcore path in the first place. Whereas the comp version of Heatwave is a straight up digicore/punk cover of the ATR song, the motown mix on this EP takes a cue from Alec Empire's "vs. Elvis Presley" CD, destroying the Martha Reeves & the Vandelles song "heat wave" in the process. Sandwiched between the heatwave versions are abstractions that use samples from our cover but take them down some strange roads, from dubstep ("heatvent") and sludge ("heatsink") to rave ("heatrash") and beyond.
