Asaurus Records Newsletter - http://asaurus.org

Dearest Newsletter Readers,

Hey, let's have a black celebration! What will forever be known as Black Tuesday is finally upon us, as we release our first record of 2008, "Letting You Down Again: Lo-Fi vs. Depeche Mode." Nearly 3 years in the making, "Letting You Down Again" features lo-fi bands covering Depeche Mode songs. It makes the perfect Valentine's gift, whether you'll be making out to "Somebody" or wallowing in your lonely, dark despair with "World Full of Nothing." The compilation features 20 covers with varying degrees of tape hiss and comes dressed in black, inside a black felt pouch. The comp also includes a black felt 1" button. It's fuzzy.

Bands include:

The Faintest Ideas, Curtains Afire, H Bird, HP Goblet, Let's Whisper (feat Colin & Dana of the Smittens), Grumpy Bear, Bad Knees, The Mathletes, Manipulator Alligator, Astruval, The French Toasts, Shiny Around the Edges, A Cardigan & A Frown, Holly and the Dead Saints, Quiet Bears, Maven Steeples, Patrick Elkins, This Bank Holiday, The Math-Amphetamines, and The Sewing Circle

Listen to "World Full of Nothing" by Grumpy Bear:

APOCALYPSE YOW!: The new record from Colin Clary is here and making new friends daily. You may have also seen it on several end of the year best-of lists. We're very proud of the record and we know you'll love it too. Did I mention it comes inside an actual working paper fortune teller? "Colin
Clary's sweetness is genuine, and his songs have the asset of classic pop
melodies." - Erasing Clouds.

NEW NEW GRENADA EP EP: Our second release of 2008, a year we are hoping to keep busy as hell, is a brand new EP from our favorites New Grenada. It is called "Model Citizen" and you can listen to one of the songs, "January 1st," here:

http://asaurus.org/records/newgrenada-january1st.mp3

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

I want to spill the beans a little bit to our closest friends. The details on our new subscription-based series are coming together, and here's what I can tell you thus far: After 2 years in committee, a replacement for our EP Club has been decided on. We will be releasing a series of split EPs, wherein the two bands featured, in addition to their own songs, will be covering songs originally by the other band on the split. These will all be relatively well-known, indie-famous bands. If you consider yourself indie-famous (think Colin Clary, not Of Montreal) and would like to be considered, please get in touch right away.

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

The Asaurus family is also hard at work on our 6 year anniversary celebratory 3 CDR collection/retrospective. It will be out this summer and will be more like a 6 and a half year anniversary celebratory 3 CDR collection/retrospective. Think back to December 2001, when Asaurus Records was a mere glimmer in my eye. Can't remember that far back? We're here to help. More details soon....

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

MP3s: Please be sure to check out our brand new MP3 pages, located at:
http://asaurus.org/records/mp3s.html

You'll find a brand new flash player to stream music as well as new,
full-length, downloadable mp3s from all of our available releases, including
compilations.

Hello inter-web friends,

I am going to apologize for being relatively quiet lately. That's about to change. Our first of many new releases of 2007 is the brand new record from the Capstan Shafts, entitled Her Versus the Sad Cold Eventually. It is exactly what you'd expect from the prolific Capstan Shafts, which is awesomeness. How about you download the song "The Trilateralist Told You Not To"?

Also coming up on our release schedule is Sinkcharmer's Asaurus debut, Vegetable Farmer, which will be available next week, followed soon by the Pathways' Gray Blaze and the Boyish Charms' Nothing Spectaclar Awaits. Also in the pipeline is Colin Clary's new record Apocalypse Yow!, new records from Kevin Hume and Patrick Porter and the Faintest Ideas, plus a new super-cheap sampler.

Last year (or was it 2 years?) we started compiling a compilation of indie pop bands doing covers of Depeche Mode songs. Contrary to popular belief, we would still like to release this at some point. We are again opening up our PO Box to new submissions and will be taking them until the spring, when we will then release the comp. We will post an info page on this very website soon, but until then, start recording!

This past December, our 5th anniversary passed by quietly. We would like to do something special for this, details forthcoming.

Have you noticed we are now making BUTTONS for everyone??? It's true!

Thanks for being you,
Matthew

Asaurus Records - Newsletter ..22 http://asaurus.org ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// ELLIOTT THE LETTER OSTRICH has been busy watching horror movies the past two years and now, after careful consideration, they are ready to emerge from the darkness with their brand new full-length entitled "Blood Cape." It will be unleashed on Friday May 13th, but before then, we will have Blood Cape samplers, sorta like a single. They will be extremely limited and come with special goodies like blood capsules. We've also posted one of the new tracks on the website, "Out Come the Vampires," which you can listen to here: http://asaurus.org/records/etlovampires.m3u ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// COLIN CLARY also has a new record coming out very soon entitled "Sweater Weather or Not, These are the Songs I Got." It is his Asaurus debut and we're really really excited about 1) being able to put it out, and 2) having you listen to it! We posted one of the new songs, "The Mixtape on My Mind," that you can stream or download here: STREAM: http://asaurus.org/records/colin2.m3u DOWNLOAD: http://asaurus.org/records/colinclary-mixtapeonmymind.mp3 ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// EP CLUB! We recently released to club members the 10th installment of our EP Club series, this time featuring our very own and beloved Pants Yell!, as well as friends Ryan Doyle, Parachutes, and the Dirty Moons. As of this writing, there is only 10 complete second series (..7-12) sets available, so if you're a completist, get on it. PY! also put together a special super-limited edition version of the EP with different artwork. We only have a few copies left in our distro. For sound samples and more info: http://asaurus.org/records/epclub/010.html ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// ARBOR DAY is this Friday and we only have 9 copies left of our special Arbor Day compilation we released last year. The comp is filled with exclusive songs, all about trees., featuring Seiss, The I Love Ryans, Astruval, Colin Clary, Wally Pear, Cardinal, Mwivi Mwizi, Sinkcharmer, and Humdinger. All of the proceeds are being donated to the National Arbor Day Foundation and we're hoping to be able to sell the remaining copies before Friday and donate the money. Wink, wink. For sound samples and ordering info: http://asaurus.org/records/store/asa030.html ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// THE MATHLETES Jest & Earnest.... Their debut double-CDR release is now ready and shipping. There's something like 50 (no, exactly 50) pop songs on this thing, and all good, of course. The first disc is a revisionist look at The Mathletes' recording history or something. Maybe not? The second disc is full of songs about girls and heartbreaky-ness. Our friend Jessica at http://paperheart.org did the amazing artwork. For more info, sound samples, and ordering, visit: http://asaurus.org/records/store/asa041.html ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// YOU ALREADY HAVE WAY TOO MANY CDRs. But... Oh boy. So for our 40th release, we decided, why not, in celebration of our 3rd anniversary, which was this past December, release a very special 3 CDR boxset. So guess what? We kept our word and now this monster is ready to be seen and heard. Here is what is included: - Disc One: One song for each band, almost all of them brand new/unheard. - Disc Two: A compilation of 'guilty pleasures' covers. - Disc Three: A compilation of outtakes, live material, and weird goodies. - A 17 page booklet full of information and images of deer. The complete tracklistings, as well as some sound samples, are available at: http://asaurus.org/records/store/asa040.html ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// We also recently released the new record from Winter Vacation, entitled "The Netherlands, 1980." It is a split with Roxanne Jean Polise. More info: http://s92689593.onlinehome.us/xdey/newsite/xdey40.html ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// RADIO RADIO. We want to encourage you to check out two of our favorite radio programs. Boogiepop Does Not Smile on WCSB (http://www.wcsb.org) plays almost nothing but awesome indie pop and you can even hear some Asaurus tunes regularly. You can listen to the show live Monday mornings 9-11 or they also have archives of the show posted here: http://boogiepopwcsb.blogspot.com/ Phoning It In on BSR (http://www.bsrlive.com/archives/show.php?s=100) takes lo-fi to the perfect extreme, having musicians call into the station and play their tunes over the telephone. Awesome! Asaurus bands and our friends have or will be phoning in soon. You have to listen to this. ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// THE DISKETTES' brand new record, "Weeknights at Islandview Beach," is out on Blocks Recording Club (http://www.blocksblocksblocks.com) and yes, of course, it is wonderful. ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// Did you know we could be your latest friend on Myspace?
