Can you be articulate about articulation? Does resin resonate with you? Do you get spastic about plastic? Can you gush about plush? If you answered yes to these questions (and they kind of made you want to throw up in your mouth a little too), we are looking for you! Specifically, ToyCyte seeks a few good fans who can also write. We're going to assume you're familiar with our site, but just to state the obvious, we cover a broad spectrum of designer toy culture, including: urban vinyl, platform toys, DIY toys, Japanese vinyl and Kaiju, and the events and projects of artists who have a foot in the community. If you have a special knowledge of something in particular, let us know. If you think we should be covering something else, we dig feedback. If writing regularly for ToyCyte, or occasionally contributing special events, appeals to you, tell us about yourself by sending an email to us. If you have links to stories you've written or even posts on a forum, send those our way too. Please visit the site and click the link to contact us. Thanks!

Hana just did a great interview with Thomas Han. They chatted in the back gallery of LA's Munky King and "he opened up about his art and his life. He discussed his influences, his creative process, his upcoming Pusher show, and even the topic of internet rumors. There is more to Thomas Han than his cutely bizarre artwork." Read the full interview at ToyCyte here.

I very much want these Kubricks. I think it's clear they're going to have to release a second set. I mean, Kate is kind of like the Smurfette of the island. And her accessory is handcuffs, so is this LOST or Temptation Island? I am pretty happy with who they picked for this initial set, but I would like to see Sun and Jin and Rose and Bernand. Full disclosure on TV show toys: I have a gigantic collection of Buffy the Vampire Slayer figures. As the designer toys eclipsed the Scooby Gang, SMG and friends got boxed up and I'm looking to unload them if anybody needs a phat lot of So-cal monster hunters. These (LOST) are the first TV toys I've wanted since the decline of Buffy (which kept releasing figures after the show went off the air). The one exception is that I wanted a Rose MacGowan figure, but could not in all good conscience support Charmed. See more photos of the LOST Kubricks at ToyCyte, and let me know if you've got a bead on where to get 'em--particularly as a complete set. Thanks!

Erin Currie launched her first production figure (through Erick Scarecrow's ESC-TOYS imprint) last night. I've known her for a while and the Curster's Yeti is awesome. She was kind enough to send one my way and I let him loose for some adventures in my backyard. Check out the official press release here and the unofficial press release here. Bunch more pics in the MySpace pics directory.

Hi MySpacers. This is Jeremy. I've been collecting designer toys since about 2003, but it all started with Smurfs for me (and I still have them). Anyway, I've become really fascinated by the evolution of the designer/art toy scene over the years. Obviously the scene is a lot bigger. But the really interesting part for me is the new high regard for toys (and toy designers) coming from the "mainstream" art world. For instance, inclusion of toys in art auctions and all the various non-toy projects toy designers are being asked to get involved in. Is the mainstream just trying to cop cred from the new hip thing or are they finally seeing the high art value of low brow art? If any of you artists who are ToyCyte's beloved MySpace friends have thoughts on this, I would very much like to chat/write for a casual Q&A. Huck Gee was cool enough (and very open) to kick it off by answering a very pointed question from me (Why $800?), and you can read that conversation over on ToyCyte in a feature I cheekily entitled, "Huck Gee Gets The Third Degree" right here. Comments and feedback always appreciated!

Sunny first blogged Crazy 4 Cult 2 & Ain't It Cool News' collab contest here, and since then Gallery 1988's blog has been packed with the kind of imagery that makes us film buffs and cult geeks remember why it's OK to never leave the house. G1988 currently has two contests running: Though entry into the 1st contest (where artists were encouraged to submit works inspired by cult movies with one lucky piece to be included in the show) has now ended, G1988 has opened up commenting here so we can "vote" for our favorite finalist. So many inspired ideas: Jack Nance's signature 'do in Eraserhead replaced by a silver Dixon Ticonderoga. Both Freaks pieces. (We just re-rented Freaks the other day. Did you know the DVD has tons of extra features?) Can't go wrong with Attack of the Killer Tomatoes…The 2nd contest is really one for the fans: The person to most correctly match the cult film to the corresponding character number for all 130 references in the poster by Andrew Wilson will win a prize package (and much adulation). Contest details are here. Also: there are no losers. The huge poster by Andrew–as well as another new awesome Crazy 4 Cult 2 poster by Scott Campbell–will be available at the show's opening on August 22nd. Both posters will be hung in their original incarnations among work by Alex Pardee, Angry Woebots, Brandt Peters, Cameron Tiede, Chet Zar, Joe Ledbetter, Kathie Olivas, Luke Chueh, Monster Factory, Noferin, Travis Louie, Yoskay Yamamoto and more. I guess we do have to leave the house sometimes. See you there!

Shogun Warrior and Star Wars geeks alike gawked in awe as Super7's Jumbo Machinder inspired S tormtrooper made appearances at Comic Con and at Tokyo's Star Wars Celebration. The two foot tall toy was the main topic of conversation at Comic Con. I was fortunate enough to sit down with Super7 master designer (just call him the MCP) to discuss Lucas Films, Mazinger, and Homer Simpson's car designs. Read the rest (LOTS more pics) here.

Now back from a globe-trotting exhibition, The wait is over. Toy2R has unveiled most of the 10-inch Bart Simpson Qee customs on the Toy2R forums. But if you've got ADD, anticipatory anxiety, high blood pressure, something in the oven or a slow Internet connection, you'll feel like you're still waiting (for the pages to load; each artist's auction is a separate thread). In order to make giving to charity even easier (all proceeds go to the Red Cross), I've compiled all the info right here. (I also wanted to get a wide view of the auction and see all the Qee at once) These Qee–by Attaboy, MCA, Buff Monster, Mark Nagata, KaNO, Jon Burgerman, HELLOPIKE, David Lanham, Jeremiah Ketner, Dril One, Clutter Magazine and others–range from under $100 to $1000. See the complete auction list here.
