Aaron is singing in the isolation room "...I don't want to talk about it" and it all takes me back to somewhere I can't return. We're weighted in ways unexpected and since my vote is in I don't need to be anywhere. All of the sudden things feel truly far away. Miss is just todays condition...no more sad songs. It's day two in the Funkhaus... a former DDR recording studio on the banks of the Spree. All the warmth and comforts of Soviet cold war design, built for a forever brick fearless and far away from rings of fire always know. This compound once held lives and livelihood for 15,000 people, a gas station and it's own post office. It's all been deserted for the past 17 years except for a few recording studios that were savvy enough to realize that these rooms were built by the top electrical and acoustic engineers on the planet in their day and were left to rot after the wall came down. We are at Studio East our engineers are French and British...not a German around. Feeling haunted and home Ill walk to the riverbank and look at the reflection of the ferris wheel in the black water as the ivory steam from the power plant cuts through the sunless sky. Pinch me. Maybe the mind...Halloween tricks but we're feeling spirits so down the hall we set up a mic to try and record the ghost. See them.... I'm gonna stay here till the 9th now.

England sweetheart...the dear friends and the never-ending grey the ICA. Upsetting the Rhythm warmth that blows the mind reunited with Luke, Sara, Brendon and Vice. David's photos abstract gifted to me on my synth that shows me "TODAY" and a moment with Jo. All true never to much. How come Comet Gain has to play the same night as I do? I need their songs that hurt so much to remind me why to come home...
Friends in Paris...I need more experience.

Current mood: thankful
Hello...I hope your summer is off to a great start. I would love to be on tour but some things fell through and with the price of gas...we are all feeling the story so make your local scene/world a place you want to live in.
I have some new things in the works:
***Teardrops in the next few weeks will release a new 7" with fantastic artwork by Sumi Ink Club. It 3 tracks 2 being all modular synthesizer! Tracklist is:
1. When I Had Your Love I Had The World 2. Theme 3. Masonna Is Playing At My House
Song 2 features my good friend Joey Karam of The Locust...funny thing is that's not a modular synth track...Out in August!
***Another 7" for the Ole' Factory Records run by Jim Smith who's fine establishment The Smell continues to bring energy and community to our city/scene.
***I've asked some friends who I greatly admire to see what they could do with music from the Plays The Modular Synthesizer CD. It's going to come out as a 12" LP! Confirmed are:
Telepathy High Places Tyler Pope(of !!!) Aaron Warren(Black Dice, T-Tari)
Aaron has been the first to check in and its no surprise it's mind melting! I've been talking to Dean/PPM about releasing it after the tracks come in.
Dean recently beamed to me from his No Age tour that Plays The Modular Synthesizer has almost sold out. Touch & Go has picked up distribution for PPM and has helped get them out to the world. There are still copies around from looking on the internet. PPM rules...get the Abe Vagoda masterpiece "Skeletons" and Eric Copeland's LP too!

Current mood: artistic
Hello.
I've been trying for ages to get into scoring music for film, shorts, anything...etc... and I just scored some music for the VBS(VICE online) show Art Talk. The episode is on the fantastic Aries artist Barry McGee hosted by Aaron Rose. It was an honor to make music for this program.
Part 1 http://www.vbs.tv/video.php?id=1509866020
Part 2 http://www.vbs.tv/video.php?id=1509866021
I hope you like it.
On other fronts(always a war...)
---My 7" on the Teardrops label is about to be finished. It features art from Sumi Ink Club and is full of blissed out modular synth dronings... A follow-up full length is in the works.
---The Sads have just released a 7" on the Teardrops label with cover artwork by the artist/filmmaker Mike Mills. We just did some touring in Europe. We have a plans for another tour over there in the fall and plan on doing some recording in Berlin at the end of the tour.
---Some of NYC's finest are working on a remix record for songs from my "Plays The Modular Synthesizer" recording just released on PPM in January. Tyler Pope from the great !!! is almost done with his track and I'll name the others as they start coming in...spring is here and everyone is busy touring!
---So many recordings to work on and to finish...Joey Karam, AsDSSka, Damion Romero/DSS, Anna Oxygen, Shannon Walters(16Bitch Pile-Up), MGR/DSS II.
I feels so lucky to be this busy!
And two exceptional creations to check out: No Age: Nouns Beautiful Losers a film by Aaron Rose

Current mood: thankful
My freind Dean just asked me to answer these questions for a magazine. Every town should be so lucky to have (a) The Smell.
1. Tell me about your experiences at the Smell, why do you think it is important?
All Ages clubs like the Smell keep the focus on the important issue of music...the music. We are lucky to live in Los Angeles and to have had Jim Smith step up and create a place that not only provides a venue to play in but also a place that has created a local culture that focuses on positivity, openness, and creativity...not just to music but also to art, film making, writing(Ara’s poetry nights), etc... This is NOW THINKING. I feel that weather your are at the Smell every night or just come whenever Mika Miko plays it will leave something with you will carry for the rest of your life. Everyone who hangs out at the Smell is actually pretty nice and this is unique to scenes of the past locally and nationally.
2. How is the current LA music scene compared to 10 years ago?
There is this openness and friendliness that I have never experienced in LA before. People are so excited to try out ideas with others and pull up everyone with them. 10 years ago(and still in the bar rock scene) it was all 60s-70’s muppet guys being sensitive to get laid. People adrift between college and marriage, lost and without any passion at the bars trying to be older and jaded(WTF!), rock cliché’s, Fugazi fans doing coke to be ironic, record collectors trying to numb themselves into thinking that it’s all been done before so they don’t have to try and give something real , connective...personal. FUCK IRONY... it’s for those who gave up. ART has replaced drugs for those of us who want to live/love in the NOW.
3. Describe the feeling when you play at the Smell VS other venues.
The Smell is nurturing grounds for people who are playing their first show. You can start playing on the floor, instruments cranked, drummers hitting as hard as they can until you want to try to play on the stage and learn how to use monitors and find out that you don’t have to turn everything up all the way and sound better. Other venues are looking for the next Silversun Pickups, someone who isn’t taking chances and just wants to entertain(opposed to inspire) and bring in people to drink.
4.How does the Smell make me feel?
Lucky and honored to be here now.

Current mood: blessed
My friend who I knew in the 90’s asked me how things were today. This is what I wrote him...
Hmmm...
There are always fantastic bands playing with lots of good energy at the Smell and other non bar venues...thats what is different that in the 90’s. People now are positive... but not blindly, and also critical thinkers all while having fun. You have to be able to step back and look at things to make ideas stronger and interesting but also not let your brain get in the way of having some hope. People are aware that these days have been rough but the answer isn’t to escape or to just hate things away... Cynicism is over because the cynics have all negated themselves, and having the attitude/outlook of "why bother?" you tend to disappear after a while. The only thing left for the young, poor, bored, lonely, sad, rich, ancient, single, married, untalented, unheard, smart,_________________(you here) to do is to use your intelligence, excitement, and passion to make something, a band, a painting, a play, a movie, a brownie...lots of (non-fascist vegans these days).... You could end up playing video games and watching TV&DVD’s in your spare time. Kill me now...
These are the best times ever to be/to do something creative in Los Angeles. I’m really stoked by it!

Hello everyone,
Wonderful and rough days these days. Friends getting killed for stupid reasons, parents in the hospital, and sometimes heartbreak... All to remind you that you are alive, lovin' and in moments that will be memories soon enough. Expansion, openness, and trust will make everyday/moment special and fill you with hope and allow you to see the new opportunities you have all the time, while constriction, control, and fear closes you off to all the wonderful things that go on all around you. Treat your love better than you know and be careful what you spread in your time here... There has never been a better time in history to be alive. Be good to each other.
I have just mastered a CD for the PPM label called "Plays The Modular Synthesizer" . It should be out in late August. It is a collection of music I made over the past year and a half on my MOTM modular synthesizer system. It's not exclusively a noise or traditional electronic record but more of a record of many moods/sounds/songs that I've made on the synth. The tracklisting is:
1 Suicide Is My Folk Music 2 Glitched Legless 3 Forst Fields 4 Soundrise 5 La Queue du Chat Manquant 6 Read My Mind 7 A Mod Synth Con 8 Dome Hill 9 Contrast Studies 1 10 P.S. The Man The Legend 11VCO>VCF>VCA>GO!
I am doing a West coast tour with the Thrones in the late summer, and a East coast tour on my own in the Fall. Let me know if you have a cool place to play.
Teardrops will be releasing my next proper release maybe late this year of early 2008.
I've also joined a new group called The Sads. Many exciting things are in the works for us including working with the Robert Wilson Foundation who has produced some of the coolest theater in the past 30 years such as Einstein on the Beach , the CIVIL warS, as well as The Black Rider, and Alice with Tom Waits.
Life moves forward.
