I'm fresh back from the Sister's Folk Festival and I can do nothing but gush.  For those who have never been, it's an epicenter of beautiful music, and follows on the heals of the Americana Project Song Accademy, where I was honored to be a staff member.  (www.sistersfolkfestival.com)  Great to see so many friends there, and hope the rest of you will join in in the future!

 

The *NEW* CD Baby is here: THE best source for indedpendant music has launched a new artist info site with a robust resources section, new product offerings, AND a brand new storefront with new functions and features!  New ease of downloads & updated info will be coming for my and Cross-eyed Rosie's cd's.  Expose yourself to new music!

 

                                        "I'm Just Taking A Break":

 

After an eye-opening two years since the release of ANGELS & DEVILS ALIKE, I've decided to take a short sabadical of indeterminate duration and destination, to take stock, take time with my family, take a load off, take some adventures.  So every show between now and my departure takes on a new light.  I'll be taking one more run through Washington with Chris Kokesh and playing a few more dates in the Portland area culminating with an EXTRA SPECIAL SHOW at Mississippi Studios on November 27th!!  More details on that show in the future...

 

THIS WEEK:  John Henry and Chris Kokesh have invited me to be the special guest at their Harmony Thursdays series at Alberta St. Pub in Portland!  AND Jim McKeon and I will be playing our last purely duo sets at Hotel Oregon on Friday.  Gonna be some great music...

Hi Everyone,

 

The weather has been beautiful here in Trout Lake and I'm ready to play some music for you my neighbors and you who are lucky enough to make a trip out the Columbia River Gorge-area this week.

 

Thursday, alt-folk troubador and old mountain-music appreciator Garett Brennan (www.threepin.org) and I will be playing together at Everybody's Brewing in White Salmon.  Garett just released a new disk, Huckleberry Tree, with his band The Great Salt Licks, which features top-shelf pickers like Tony Furtado, Scott Law, Jackstraw's Jon Neufeld and Foghorn Stringband's Sammy Lind.  There ain't much dust at Everybody's, but we're gonna kick it all up.

 

Saturday I'm doing a double header of my two favorite places:  at 3pm I'm offering a set right here at the wonderful Trout Lake Arts Festival, and at 7pm I'm gonna give some of my soothing solo boogie at McMenamin's Edgefield.  If you can fit either of these places into your weekend it'll truly make your summer day.  More info below!

 

I'm putting some energy into recording some new music for you, and I'll let you know when things will be appearing as the year progresses.  Also, the online calendar is nearing the end of it's previous update, but the sun hours have been long and office hours have been short.  Be patient and I'll keep you updated with more soon!

The 14th Annual Trout Lake Festival of the Arts presents a weekend of art and music in beautiful Trout Lake Valley located beneath Mt. Adams. Fifty artists will be jury selected to display fine art in the rustic barn, outdoors, or garden setting. In addition to the art, visitors enjoy continuous live music, outstanding variety of foods, local brews and wine. There is no admission fee and plenty of free parking.

In the summer I may be outside at the Red Shed, or if there is a wedding scheduled there (happens often!) I will be down haunting the Winery hall.

As we spin out another set of days on this lucky planet a weekend approacheth!  And you'll have 4 chances to catch me, each in different settings...

 

Thursday for the kids: Mo Phillips (www.mophillips.com) is on fire, and he's writing songs about it.  His massive and childishly free creativity already recently released "Train Beard", his first kids album, but he's even got another coming (shh: I'll be on it!).  Bring your kids grown and small as we gloriously goof at our family friendly kids show.

 

Friday for Washington:  Chris Kokesh (www.chriskokesh.com)?  Do I have to talk about what a heartachingly beautiful songwriter, singer, fiddler, guitarist or woman she is?  Nah.  But we are playing at the Upstage together with Blues, Swing, & Hillbilly Jazz whiz'z Southbound.  Seattlites, this is worth the trip!

Saturday for heartwarming: Chris and I will be sharing intimate show at a very lucky house near Lewis & Clarke College.  Seating is limited and reservations are required.  Call or email Rene at zingarellir@aol.com. (Call early as the last house concert sold out!).

 

AND Sunday for hardcore fun:  I love what I do, and lately I have been having an even greater time than normal playing solo, there's great juju around.  So when Jason Spooner (www.jasonspooner.com) invited me to join him at his swing thru Portland I snapped it up.  Travelling with is band, Jason is an award winning singer/songwriter from the other Portland (Maine that is) who writes seriously easy music to like.   To boot, Alberta St Pub has really become a supreme listening room, pig kitsch and all.
