The 2009 SOWI Seminar/Awards Banquet/Showcase, was another tremendous succes, thanks to the help of a lot of loyal SOWI members. The contest results are attached, and will also be posted on the SOWI website, and will be listed in the next SOWI Newsletter. Award winners who were not present, will receive their awards in the mail. The event took place at the Holiday Inn River Walk, Neenah, Saturday September 19.
The SOWI Songwriter Award of the year 2009 award, went to Jay Brehmer, of Appleton.
Norma Johnson, of Loves Park, IL, won the drawing for the Shure Microphone give away.
Scott Joyce, pro songwriter, former band director for Blake Shelton, keyboard player for Kenny Chesney, and currently playing keyboards for Steve Holy, did the morning presentation, on his take on songwriting, and gave us some samples of songs that have been recorded by major acts. James Russel, of "Out of Ether" spoke in the aftternoon, as did Roy Elkins, of "Broadjam.com", and all presentations hit the spot, and were enjoyed by the attendees, as we had to add more chairs in the afternoon. Scott Joyce, Randy Van Vooren, Jay Franzen and Mike Heath made up the panel for the critique session, following the presentations. After the Awards presentation, MC'd by Scott Joyce, the annual showcase took place, with Randy Van Vooren as MC, and the PA system provided by Kevin Van Pay, and sound managed by Patrick Leigh Smolinski. Another fine sampling of talents from Wisconsin and Illinois and Nashville performed their original songs. Participating singer/songwriters included: Scott Joyce, Randy Van Vooren, Phil Golembiewski, Christina Meyer, Keidra Chaney, Jay Franzen, Cindy Johnson, Bonnie Lingnofski, Tony Ansems, Mike Heath, George Schneider, and Bruce Mallitz Sr. and Jr.
A big "Thanks" to Kevin Van Pay, for arranging the presenters, and to Mike Heath, for compiling the scores from the judges, and to Bonnie Lingnofski, for providing the name badges and the always prominent SOWI banner.
Thanks to all participants We are looking forward to another great event in 2010 (3rd Saturday, in September).

Monday, September 15, 2008...

Dear SOWI Members:

Last Saturday night, September 13, 2008, at The Neenah Holiday Inn River Walk, at the conclusion of the 2008 SOWI Awards Banquet, I came as close to being in Heaven, as I have ever been in my entire life. Of course, I did not have very far to go, because you all put me on cloud nine, for the entire day.

Thank you so much for the beautiful award, the gracious gift certificate, and the wonderful binder, with cards and letters from you guys, honoring me for starting and running SOWI for 25 years. I have had a lot of fun, and satisfaction doing it.

Thank you so much !

-Tony
