The Silver Surfer - Happy Place

The Silver Surfer covered this song a fair while back.  I remember reading about over on Some Candy Talking (maybe 5 or 6 years ago).  But I'd completely forgotten about it until they got in contact offering the song to the Covers Project.  They've done a bright and bouncy cover of Happy Place which can't help but make you and smile.

Ian and Nick - You Trip Me Up

Some people like to take the noisy approach when covering the Jesus and Mary Chain.  Others like to approach the songs from the melody angle and that's the take that Ian and Nick have taken.  Ian is part of The Foster Kids and Nick is fan of The Beach Boys.  And you can hear it.   This is one of most sumptious re-workings we have had so far.  Enjoy!

Samideani are a band from Italy.  They also feature Some Candy Talking poster - ItalianCandy.  They've done a great lo-fi cover of Sometimes Always - but a little word of warning watch out for the guitar midway through - I nearly jumped out of my skin.  They also sent a great fan photograph in:

I'm looking for pics.  Pics of you from way back wearing a Mary Chain T Shirt.  Or your Mary Chain collection.  Or your bedroom walls adorned with Mary Chain pics.  Anything fan related about the Mary Chain.  Not really interested in live pics of the band.  Old paper clippings are good though.

I want this stuff to bolster the website with images and make it feel more fanlike.  I have some more stuff to add.   But I guess the more, the better.  Please email me on jamc@lostmusic.co.uk in the first instance!

Hot Booth - Moe Tucker

Hot Booth is Daniel from Pocketbooks.  He's recorded a lovely lo-fi fuzzy pop version of 'Moe Tucker'.  I think it's rather fab version.  I hope you do too.   And if you like his take on 'Moe Tucker'  be sure to check his My Space page where he does a rather splendid cover of 'Swallow My Pride' - a cover of the Ramones song.

Jay Moore - Write Record Release Blues

Jay is a long time visitor to the SCT forum and when he saw the covers blog he decided to have go at "Write Record Release Blues" - I think his stripped down bluesy take on the song is just perfect. I hope you enjoy it.

I'm away for the next week or so - so the cover versions will resume in just over a week.

Duffloop - Why'd You Want Me

Duffloop are a band that found out about the Project and posted a link to the their My Space on Some Candy Talking.   They've done a great version of 'Why'd You Want Me' which has a great feel to it.  It seems it was recorded in 2006.   The rest of the songs on their My Space page are well worth checking out too.

Oliver North Boy Choir - Teenage Lust

Oliver North Boy Choir are from Denmark.  They've covered 'Teenage Lust' for the project and they even managed to get the song onto national Danish radio today.  You can listen to the stream here (the interview with the band is in Danish, obviously) - the song is mentioned and played at around the 7 minutes and 44 seconds mark.   This is the second version of 'Teenage Lust' that has been submitted and I think it's an absolute corker - they given the song a slight electro treatment and works really well.

Pal - Never Understand

Pal recorded these (there are two more to be posted) cover versions a couple of years back and posted them over on Some Candy Talking.   He doesn't post on the board any more as far as I can tell.  I managed to track him down via an old email address and I was delighted when he gave the thumbs up to posting these songs here.   The first one I have chosen to upload is his rather ferocious take on 'Never Understand'.

Fire Chief 5 - Cracking Up

Recorded by Fire Chief 5 - which is Bruce from Port Talbot's solo project - he's otherwise in the band Fillmore.  Nice to see some home town Mary Chain love. (for those that don't know I grew up near Port Talbot).   His take on 'Cracking Up' is a lovely lo-fi blast of riffage and drum machine.
