Poor, brave Barbaro lost his struggle today.

He will be missed and remembered. Although I do not like horseracing, he was a valiant guy and deserves respect and love.

We all will miss you here, Barbaro! We love you!!

So: place a dictator into power.

Let him run wild.

When he grows a set and invades another country (couldn't see this coming?), tortures people, does terrible things, then you decide to kill him.

To what end? There is nothing happy to come from wanton murder and mayhem, including the murder and mayhem perpetrated by the United States Government and the most bloodthirsty political figure of the late 20th/early 21st Century: George W. Bush.

Bush is a well-known, arrogant coward, and a total moron.

What does this do, the murder of deposed dictator Saddam Hussein?

Does it fix the Iraq civil war crisis? No.

Does it "show the terrorists"? Smoke them out of their holes, perhaps? No.

Does it help the image of the U.S. overseas? No.

Does it lower the price of oil? No.

Does anyone remember 9/11, or is it just me? Hussein had nothing to do with that: that was Osama Bin Laden. Remember that guy? Al Queda? The planes hitting the Towers/Pentagon/Shanksville?

I do.

Bush is a worthless individual, no doubt jerking off to his latest killing. Wonder if he kept Saddam's ear, or testicle, or some similar trophy?

Bush is a serial killer in a suit; a depraved lunatic. It blows my mind that people are not seeing this. I feel the same about him as I do about Ronald Reagan: he is a vulgar thief, liar, a totally morally bankrupt freak. A disgraceful and greedy excrescence in the body politic.

Have fun while you can: dark days may be ahead...

America is not a theocracy.

(Not YET, at least...)

I am perplexed by the so-called neo-cons: do they really believe that the country was founded on such drivel as whether or not God (GOD? god? Allah? Brahma? Zeus? You get the idea...) was a real being? A guy on a throne in the sky watching over us all? (He/she/it must be VERY bored up there if this is the case...)

For some reason, these weak-minded idealogues really seem concerned about this.

Why?

Perhaps they are distracting themselves from their typically unhappy/sex-starved lives... Perhaps they are completely mad with fear that some lunatic will get elected. (OOPS! Too late...)

Messiah complex? Bad eggs? I cannot be sure, but this I know: these folks need to get a life.

Does anybody REALLY care if Clinton gets a blowjob? I don't. We cannot be privvy to the innerworkings of his relationship to Hillary: perhaps she did not want to perform this deed; perhaps she watched; perhaps she was devoid of feelings one way or the other. All I know is that if she can live with it, then I can.

What is the deal with these Christian Right-Wingers being so pro-life? Really, it is no male's domain to tell females what to do with their bodies. How can they be Pro-Life, yet still believe in war, the death penalty, and eating flesh foods? I think perhaps they are outraged that some woman will have the cajones to reject THEIR little string of DNA by getting an abortion.

Typically, they will go to the Bible to justify things, but while this made-up fairy tale (borrowing heavily from the Greeks I might add) is lovely to read (KJ version), it's Ten Commandments do not back up a lot of the neo-cons own declarations. To wit: it states: THOU SHALT NOT KILL. There is no qualifier (as in "Except to have a burger" or  "It's OK if you want to get oil" and so on).

It seems to me that religion was the worse idea in all of recorded history. It has been the cause of so much grief, separatism, bloodshed and all manner of genuinely nasty acting-out by humans. Other animals do not seem to need this feeble-minded crutch.

Why do we?

All art is pretense on some level.

A lot of the individuals mentioned are terrible hacks. Little or no talent... certainly no imagination, and quite often devoid of technique. Koons leaps to mind, Pearlstein, Basquiat. Ryden, for me. I am sick of Manga and large-headed, dewy-eyed kids...

I know a lot of brilliant artists (Giger, Fuchs, and several others): I met them shooting a documentary I am producing.

When I see their works in person, I am truly astonished at the "art" people are calling great, good or even acceptable.

Most of it is pure drek.

The same is true for music, film, literature, and so on...

Americans in particular have tiny dull minds, and extremely limited imaginations. They have not really seen much, or gone anywhere. There are exceptions, but overall, they only know America. That is OK if you're a research scientist, or a business leader, but a serious writer, musician, artist, whatever needs to get beyond the provencal.

For something truly interesting, go see the interest in art in Australia, or Europe. Even New York is unbelieveably pretentious and boring.

Graffiti: this is art? It's hardly Ernie Barnes, or Eakins or Rembrandt.

Art serves two basic functions:

To move a person while prodding them to think- about the human condition, or the state of the Universe. Anything to get an individual out of their own silly world and extend their grasp of reality. It needs to transend the present. Think Guernica, or The Last Judgement.

If it fails these two objectives, I would say it is mostly garbage.

This should be about who is great, but I hazard that it would be only a half page long...

Sadly, this awesome person who knew Charles Darwin has left the world.

Harriet was at least 175 years old, and will be greatly missed. It is a sad day.

She was a giant Galapagos land tortoise. Check out this tribute by Australia Zoo:

We love you Harriet, and will see you again...

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Cutting Edge Poetry and Graphics by a New Author BookSurge proudly announces the publication of Totems and Taboos, by Jason Vincent Brock VANCOUVER, WASHINGTON - BookSurge proudly announces the release of Totems and Taboos, by Jason Vincent Brock. The typical modern collection of poetry tends to be safe, predictable, and often even dull. There's rarely anything in your conventional poetry book that might upset a bookstore patron leafing through the glossy pages, wondering if the brand-new yet tired book would look impressive enough on their coffee table when the neighbors come over. If that is the sort of title that you are looking for, then you'll want to steer clear of Jason Vincent Brock's Totems and Taboos, which is an eye-opening and fresh compilation of original poems and daring illustrations. The themes of both verse and imagery are as wide-ranging as one can find, and far more challenging than your conventional bookstore fare. The topics span a remarkable number of areas for such a modest volume (no more than 60 pages). The subjects are environmental, sci-fi, deeply personal, Native American, and sometimes dark. Published by BookSurge, in association with Cycatrix Press, this is Jason Brock's first book, and it reflects the artistic intensity and social daring of the author. It includes an introduction that largely focuses on his many eclectic influences, with a variety of elements encompassing the likes of Einstein and Eno, Michelangelo and John McLaughlin, Chief Joseph and The Clash. Dedicated to his wife and children, the book includes a forward by his wife, who performed the editing. Totems and Taboos is quite experimental, and yet displays a compelling depth of artistic experience. It will no doubt raise eyebrows from coast to coast, and perhaps even a consciousness here and there, as readers explore the author's unique juxtaposition of compassionate pain for the world, relentless sensitivity to nature, deep fascination with nature, and awareness of what Man is doing to it. This is all evidenced in original and shocking imagery -- including drawings, paintings, photography, and computer-generated art. Totems and Taboos is clearly one-of-a-kind. Don't miss it. After all, you probably won't find it on your neighbor's coffee table. About the Author Jason Vincent Brock, is a writer, artist, and guitarist. Originally hailing from Charlotte, North Carolina, he has lived in Seattle and Portland, but feels most at home near Florence, Italy. His interests are varied, including astrology, environmentalism, the visual arts, travel, veganism, health, science fiction, and music. He is currently developing project in the areas of writing (multiple screenplays) and music (his group Chiaroscuro will soon release an album). His wife's Sunni and their children live in California and Washington State. For more information or for a free review copy, please contact the author at Jasunni@gmail.com. Books are available to order at Booksurge.com, Amazon.com, Alibris.com and Abebooks.com. ......
