We travelled to the rainy streets of Liverpool on Friday (alright, so it was raining in London too) and played an instrumental set as part of Liverpool Music Week. Thanks to all that came along and enjoyed themselves, also a big thank you to Capac for organising it, we really enjoyed their set and urge you to check them out. Epic name fail
(Epic Name Fail) Any of you who didn't have a chance to listen to the Radio One interview the other day may not be aware of the exciting news that we have recently signed to Monotreme Records. We're really delighted to be involved with this incredible independent label who have put out some of our favourite records by the likes of 65 Days Of Static, Thee More Shallows and Jeniferever. Monotreme will be re-issuing our debut album Condors in Spring of 2010. Our initial self release was on a very small scale due to our lack of budget and contacts, so we send a big thank you to all who supported us at that stage and now hope that anyone who has been unable to buy the album will soon be able to with ease! We are planning to tour both in the UK and Europe in Spring 2010 to promote the re-issue and hopefully bring our music to a wide audience who have yet to see us live. UK fans, we're currently sourcing good venues and promoters for late April next year, if there's somewhere you'd like to see us play please let us know and we'll do our best to sort it out. So we have one Instrumental show left this year and then we'll be going into hibernation until March. New ideas are beginning to come together here and there, so hopefully a bit of a break from playing live will give us a chance to record some new demoes. So, here is a flyer I made for our last gig for a while. Bethan Elfyn hosts BBC Radio One's Introducing show in Wales, she's a strong supporter of new and independent music and works hard to give up and coming bands exposure via her radio show and gigs. This gig is part of her regular night in Cardiff and we're delighted to be playing. It'll be our first Welsh outing, so we're really hoping to see some friendly faces. The bill is a mixture of bands playing fairly quirky music, so it should be an interesting one! Entry is at £4, doors at 8pm. Photobucket See you there! Chris x

Hey there!

To all those who don't know, those who do and those who have forgotten, we recorded a live session for Radio One and it will be broadcast this week! It was all set up by the excellent Huw Stephens and his then producer Clare.

To listen all you need to do is tune into Radio One on Wednesday (4th November) evening at 9pm (GMT) and then later at 12am (GMT).

You can do this using a radio in the UK (98.5FM people!) or online at http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1. It will then be up on the BBC IPlayer for the following 7 days, we will post a link to that here for sure.

I'm sure most of you will know that this is a big deal for us, recording in a studio where many of the Peel sessions were done and with engineers who have worked with an endless list of fantastic musicians. The cherry on the cake being the fact that it will be broadcast on a national radio station, meaning that our music will get out to a whole new bunch of listeners. We reiterate our thanks to Clare, Sam, Huw, Mitti and Nick for everything and providing us with a wonderful experience in Studio 4.

Hope you get a chance to tune in!

Chris (Nedry)

Thank you to Miriam Rowe for making such a stunning little video edit for us. courtesy of some candles, a lamp and a toilet with no windows.

We hope you like it.

Also, we did a really fun live session for Resonance FM the other day. You can listen again on this webpage 'The Other Woman Music'. Massive thanks to Ruth Barnes for making it happen and Sarah for her engineering skills, we had a great time.

Plus, you can now buy the Condors CD online (and our lovely t-shirts!) using our little webstore located here.

This is a brief post that will be filled out once we've got all the bits and bobs together from the last two days.

What an amazing couple of days it was too.

Thanks to everyone that came on Thursday to the 'Condors' Album Launch Party for all your love and support. We promise to return later in the year with something special again!

Maida Vale on Friday was amazing, one stretched t-shirt and some hard lessons in mix control later we've got four fantastic live tracks to give to Huw Stephens. Hope he likes them. We also learned that Ayu can be absolutely smashed the night before but if she drinks enough water, she still manages to perform flawlessly everytime!

Thanks to Clare, Sam, Huw, Mitti and Nick for everything and providing us with a wonderful experience in Studio 4.

Pics and reviews etc should be coming soon to replace this post but i just didnt want people to think we've gone dark!

Best wishes

Hello.

This is a very brief little blog entry but basically, we are going to be recording at the famous Maida Vale studios for a BBC Radio Live session.

We're in the Maida Vale studios on the Friday 7th August (day after our album launch part at The Fly)... the date was changed from the 19th.

Its been a personal dream for both myself and Chris for many years to one day step into the Maida Vale and we would like to thank Huw Stephens and his team at BBC Introducing for setting this up for us. Its awesome.

We dont know when the session is going to be aired yet but hopefully not too long from now! Of course we'll keep readers updated.

Oh and album launch on 6th August at The Fly!

See you there!

Release show
Our release show is fast approaching, it takes place on Thursday 6th August at The Fly on New Oxford Street and we're excited to announce the final line-up will be:

Nedry

Plus - Satellite Sound System are putting on a club night afterwards featuring an exclusive DJ set from "Get Cape, Wear Cape, Fly", which is free entry!

We will have pre-release CD copies of our mini-album 'Condors', plus t-shirts on sale and a few free badges for good measure. It's going to be a great night and is quite likely to be our last London show this Summer. Please join the facebook event group if you're into that. Otherwise you can buy tickets in advance here.

Radio One - Mary Anne Hobbs

Mary Anne-Hobbs played 'Apples & Pears' on her Radio One show last week. This was a very exciting moment for us as we've been fans of her shows for many years and I was personally blown away by her set at this year's Sonar festival. It's really unexpected and thrilling to get played on Radio One, we can't believe it really! You can listen again here, we closed the session.

BBC 6 Music - Tom Robinson

Meanwhile, over on 6 music, Tom Robinson played another of our tracks, 'Squid Cat Battle', as part of a segment of his show where Ruth Barnes from Resonance FM recommends new bands. They were both very complimentary of our music and we'd like to thank them for their support. Tom Robinson is championing lots of new and unheard music on his show, I highly recommend listening to it, it's quite incredible to hear the quality and quantity of the unsigned acts out there. Here's a link to find out more.

Truck Festival + Dragonfly

Truck festival is only days away. There are still tickets available - here, if you're looking for a cool festival to go to this Summer then we highly recommend this, the line-up includes Ash and Supergrass as well as a huge wealth of future stars. We're playing in the Beat Hive tent at 12.30pm on Sunday, can't wait! We're also tripping over to Sweden at the end of August to play at the Dragonfly festival. Check this out if you're up for something a bit different, lots of great music in beautiful surroundings, it promises to be a unique festival experience.

Hopefully see you all on the 6th August!

Hey!

So I was at the Sonar festival in Barcelona last week, it was 3 days and 2 nights or incredible electronic music from around the globe, insane sound systems and a really friendly atmostphere. Highly recommend it!

A couple of months ago we had our first ever BBC Radio One play on the 'Huw Stephens Introducing....' show. For those of you not from the UK, BBC Radio One is the main radio station for the UK, it goes out to 100,000s if not millions of people every day around the UK (and the rest of the world via the web), so it was a massive privilege to have our music played on air.

I knew Huw was going to be at Sonar so I made him a CD of new tracks and handed it to him between his DJ sets at the festival. Seemed like a really friendly guy, we had a little chat and it was nice to see he's really down to earth. To my surprise I got home to an email from Huw saying he loved the CD and was going to play 2 tracks from it on his show as well as do a feature about the small DIY label I run (on the shelf records)! So, I stayed up late, put on Radio One and sat in amazement as Nedry and Ekocam came blaring out of my speakers. I recorded the section of the show, please listen here:

Hope you found that as exciting as I did! Go to Huw's site and listen to his shows, he's a legend!

Thanks
Chris

Recording our new album

We’ve been hard at work, crafting our debut mini-album and are pleased to announce that it is now fully recorded, mixed and that we are heading into a mastering studio tomorrow to get it polished off. It’s 8 songs, a little over 30 mins and will be called ‘Condors’. We began recording sessions in March and there’s hardly been a week that’s gone by without recording, mixing and tweeking every aspect of each song. Here’s a couple of photos:

Ayu vocal takes

We’re scheduling the release of the album for the 6th August to co-inside with a London show at the Hoxton Underbelly. So please keep that date free in your diary and come down and celebrate the album release with us! We’ll also hopefully be unveiling the ‘Condors’ video that we shot in March with Juzz Media in August, so keep an eye out for that!

Dublin Castle Show

Last night we played one of our biggest shows to date at the Dublin Castle in Camden. We were so grateful to find that the venue was packed out for us, a massive thank you to all who turned up and made it an extremely successful night. We had a few of the songs filmed and a couple of friends taking photos, so hopefully we’ll have something nice to put up online soon. Thank you!

Upcoming shows

Next week we’re playing a special charity show at The Good Ship in Kilburn. All the funds from the night go towards an organisation that looks after orphans in Tanzania. We’re playing fairly early (8.30pm), but hopefully that’ll suit you well on a school night! There’s a flyer on our myspace page and here is a link to the facebook event if you happen to use it:

The Good Ship Event

We’ve got various other shows in the pipeline, keep checking our page for new dates. We’re extremely happy to be returning to Truck Festival again this year. Our first ever show (under the name Thugz) was at Truck last year, so it’s a pleasure to be asked back again to play amongst a fantastic line-up. We’re also in the early stages of planning a tour of Japan in October, which will be amazing if it all comes together.

Cheers!

Lastly want to say thanks very much to all our friends who have continued to turn up to the shows and tolerated our absence at social events while we beaver away with recording and mixing and all those who have got in touch on myspace after hearing the new songs and sent us suggestions and comments.
