Right, Here we go,
Usual Chelsea mayhem from start to finish!
We all manage to get to the Airport on time to find out that I've left my Cymbals and sticks at home!
Usual "what's wrong with you" crap from James,
But what can you do? Too late now.
We get to Spain and are met by Promoter David,
And off to Barcelona we go (where the first Gig is)
Were playing the same night so we check in to Hotel,
Go for a quick beer, and off to the sound check.
Do sound check back to hotel then off to gig.
Me and Gene get a coffee next door and this English bloke starts talking to us about seeing us in 1978 in Swansea!
Turns out he's a lecturer at Barcelona Uni.
Watch support band Travis Bickle, a Spanish band who are with us on all three dates, who are good,
They've a Girl Singer/Guitarist with a great voice and play with a lot of energy,(thanks Pedro for the Cymbals!)
Gig Starts with us going on stage only for Graig(Bass) to find there's no lead, and the Amp is turned off.
Manage to get a lead but the fucking thing is about 4ft long and every time he goes to the mike it unplugs!
We start the set with I wanna be your Dog(Iggy Pop)
The gig is a bit if a shambles but we go down well.
Too much Red Wine might have something to do with it!
I'm feeling completely knackered, we talk to a few fans outside and then back to the Hotel.
I get about 4 hours sleep and am feeling fucked already!
Gene and I have Breakfast outside a little Café.
James and Graig still asleep(what a surprise!)
I manage to have a quick wander around Barca before the band are picked up to go to Madrid which is 700kms away.
On the way to Madrid we nearly end up in a major pile up!
We're speeding down the fast lane,
And the car in front slams there brakes on,
David(the driver) does the same, but were still skidding into the car in front,
at the last second we turn to the right, to avoid hitting the car in front,
then a red BMW pulls straight in front of us skidding out of control!
We manage to avoid it pulling to the right, and by sheer luck go
Go flying up an exit past a family in a people wagon.
We manage to escape the whole thing without a scratch!
Good driving David! But lets not do it again.
Next Gig is the "Gruta 77" in Madrid.
The band plays a lot better,
We include "Sod the War, Urban UK and Cosy Family way"
From the new album(we should be doing more)
But we don't play for long enough, and have to go back on
To do some more songs.
Gene thinks it's time to do a bit of stand up comedy and won't fucking shut up!
The crowd haven't got a clue what he's going on about anyway!
The gig is filmed, and I will put it up, if its ok.
Last Gig is in Onati (Fiesta Mayor)which is the Basque region of Spain,
With Peter and the Test Tube babies.
We go on at about 2.30am in front of about 4000 drunken nutters.
Its an open air festival that is paid for by the town.
Gig goes brilliantly despite Genes voice is fucked from the night before(dirty mics)
until Peters pissed up drummer storms the stage and wont get off!
He grabs the mike from Gene and keeps fucking about!
The Power blows on stage, he stands all over James's pedals,
cutting out his guitar!
To tell the truth it didn't bother me as much as it did Gene,
Usual Chelsea mayhem I suppose!
It wouldn't be the same otherwise.
And thanks for the loan of your cymbals mate!
So that's it!
I get back to London,
moaning and complaining, never again, but by the next day want to do it all again.
Paul our Tec recons it was the funniest four days of his life!
He'll probably dine out on it for weeks.
Chris Bashford.

Faster, Cheaper and Better Looking isn't a reflection of what Chelsea really think about themselves - it's a quote from a review of Chelsea's first album, which appeared in the NME, and referred to The Clash. If only the band's success had reflected his views.
But the band can dream on. Their new album - released more than quarter of a century after the first and only album featuring the classic October/ Stevenson/ Bashford line-up - is probably the best material the band have ever produced, geting rave reviews from everyone so far.
This time around, songwriting input came from Chris, Gene and James - and even includes one track (Sliding Down The Stream) Chris co-wrote with his 13-year old son Archie. Actually, he stole it from his 13-year-old son, Archie. But that's another story.
Other tracks written by Chris such as Living Urban UK, reflect concerns about modern life, especially in London and comments on the younger generation. The lyrics have lost none of the political edge first aired on Right To Work all those years ago.
Plans for a UK and US tour are in the pipeline - but the usual hassles of getting all members together at the same time apply (most of us have now taken our father's advice and got a "proper job" - finally). So please be patient - it will happen.
