Greetings We have been working on getting are album finished over the last few weeks. We recorded two new tracks. "Burn't out concrete Walls" and "Eye for an Eye". Were all pretty skint at the moment so the album is taking longer to get finished then we'd originally thought BUT the main thing is were chipping away at it bit by bit and its sounding good. We'll be doing a few gigs in a row around the country starting with the KNOCKANSTOCKAN FESTIVAL on July 25th check out www.knockanstockan.ie for further details. It was one of the highlights of last summer its a great independant Irish Music Festival. 3 Days camping costs €65 i think. JULY 31st we'll be in Dublin headlining the main room in Whelans. Doors open @ 8 its €10 in and support on the night comes from the brilliant Funeral Suits and The House of Dolls. Were hoping to make a few bob to help pay for some of the album. Aug 1st Were heading to Cork to Play the Independance Festival check out http://www.mitchelstownfest.com/festival_bands.html for the full line up. The Super Furry Animals will be headlining the festival it should be a great buzz Aug 2nd we'll be going from Cork to Oldcastle Meath for Le Cheile Festival check http://www.lecheile.com/ for the full line up Aug 6th Were playing Roisin Dubh in Galway with Galway Natives Disconnect 4. Greetings people, Were back gigging and practicing after a disastorous months preperation for SXSW. I (Dan) caught the mumps which lasted 4 weeks (2 weeks sick, 2 weeks contagious!) I was quaratined in my own gaff (I had my own spoon bowl, knife & forke and cup!!)and had to stay clear of everyone for a while it was a nightmare to say the least. Happy Bleeding New year Eveyone! I'd like to start by thanking everyone for turning up for are fundraiser for are New York and SXSW gigs and to the Red Labels and House of Dolls for playing, it was a great buzz and we made a few bob to. Nice 1! We have had a busy start to 2009 so far and we hope to remain busy for the rest of the year.
We are currently filming a new T.V. show called "The Raw Sessions" on RTE 2. Here's the general buzz of the show: There will be an interview with us, they'll follow us around individually in are everyday lives and then we have to go into Sun studio's in Temple Bar and write and record a song from scratch in 12 hours!!! Its going to be aired in March and is going in the Last Broadcasts slot at 11pm on Wednesday I think. Hopefully it turns out well!
The next thing we'll be doing after that is a new recording in Salt Studio's on Feb 15th were going to do a track called "burnt out concrete walls" . The plan was to start the second half of the album (We already have 6 tracks recorded) early this year but because of the SXSW and New York gigs we can't afford to do it that way now so that’s on hold pretty much until after March but hopefully it won't take too long before its finished and realised.
Then were heading to New York on March 11th - 16th to play 4/5 gigs (see dates below). Then were flying to Austin Texas for the SXSW festival we'll stay there for a week and try play as many times as we can and get are CD's to as many industry people and fans as we can. We all can't fuckin wait for America and to finally get are album finished and released. If we have any more news to report we will be in touch
Nice 1

SICKBOY INVITED TO PLAY @ SXSW IN AUSTIN TEXAS MARCH 2009 |
|
Story folks
Were delighted to announce we've been invited to play at the South by South West Festival in Austin Texas, next March 2009 by its organizers.
http://sxsw.com/
Its a week long music and film festival. Its seen some great bands pass through it in the past few years like Kings of Leon , Bloc Party, A Place To Bury Strangers, British Sea Power.
Its going to cost us a fuckin fortune to get there.but fuck it we can't turn this offer down So expect to see us doing a couple of fund raisers. Let the penny pinching begin.
Peace

Greetings people! We have written fuck all blogs but that's all going to change because now we actually have something to talk about!!! READ ON…………..
After losing our friend and band member Mick Walsh in July last year (No he's not dead he left the band due to slack/lack of interest) we have come along way. We spent about two months thinking "oh bolox what do we do now?" We dumped all but 2 songs and spent the next 5-6 months writing new material. We toyed with the idea of getting another singer but said fuck it after watching are friends band auditioning about 50 lunatics over a few months to no avail. The songs came together allot quicker then before because allot of it was written before it was brought to the band which we had never really done before. Were working well as a three piece now.
In January we set about tracking down and holding down Marc Carolan (Muse, The Cure eh hem excuse the name dropping he's generally a beast behind the desk) to record/produce the new tracks. He did are first single The A-Tune which we really liked so he was are number 1 choice
We spent most of early 2008 recording, saving, spending, recording, saving, a gig here and there spending, recording, writing, quick trip to London to record 2 tracks @ INFX studios (we arrived by taxi on the Friday and just started working we barley seen the light of day! We were still recording when the taxi came to take us back to the airport then we did some more saving, spending, and basically working are balls off and being seriously broke all year we still are!
The main thing and end result is we've got a 5 track EP called "Taken Away In A Car" RELEASED JULY 25th that were all really proud of and excited about and two other tracks tucked away to put towards the album so with a bit of luck and some more money we'll have that ready for????????? I'll get back to you all about that cause I'm not going to say a date because that will jinx it and fuck the whole thing up.
But for now its GIG GIG GIG We played The Spirit store in Dundalk on July 3rd to 4 people! (12 including the bands) It's a deadly venue Derek is a great head and engineer and we'll definitely be going back as soon as he asks us and the college is back open We also made an appearance in the Connected tent @ LIFE festival in Galway which was good craic it was fairly empty at the start but filed up when we started playing! Brian was trying to convince myself and Colm he wasn't still of his rocker from the night before but his jaw had other ideas J he and we held it together and played a good set and got a good reaction from the rain soaked lifers.
READ ON its nearly over don't worry
Here's the rest of the dates we've booked so far. Im sure there'll be loads added over the next while but this is it at the moment.
July 25th Whelans Upstairs- pre launch gig (On stage 9.50) €10 -Dublin July 26th Ballyknockan Music Festival ( On Stage timeTBC) Co. -Wicklow July 27th Knockanstockan Music festival (On Stage time TBC) Co. -Wicklo July 30th Antics@ Crawdaddy EP LAUNCH (On stage 11pm) €5- Dublin July 31st The Infirmary Cork August 14th Strange Brew @ Roisin Dubh –Galway August 15th Sally Longs- Galway September 3rd The Dublin Castle, Camden, London, UK October 25th Electric Avenue supporting The Flaws Co. Watreford
Thanks for taking the time to read this hope i didnt waffle too much but that should get you all up to date on SICKBOY for the moment we'll be back with some more news soon and hopefully more gig dates. Peace and enjoy the tunes
Nice 1
Dan
