It's old news that I and Cats In Paris went on a UK tour last May.
But I damn well forgot to see if anyone liked us! I was looking for photos of a venue we played (reference for tour comic) and stumbled upon a review from our Edinburgh show!
Which was not full due to crap promoters on the night.
But read on.....

In a larger, packed venue I feel the band would thrive with a swarming mass to assimilate into their asymmetrical yet gripping rhythms and captivating visuals which were matched perfectly to each track, clearly the result of much painstaking scouting, editing, planning and live perception without feeling contrived.
Upon a 50 foot stadium screen these projections would combine to create the essence of grandeur this band’s sound deserves.
Had the concert been afforded better promotion and some more support bands to provide the build Cats In Paris needed it would have been a storming success but in the existing circumstances it felt cut short and underappreciated. By no means should these criticisms be taken as a reason not to see Cats In Paris for oneself as I feel attendance would largely rectify these issues and it would be a terrible shame to miss this wonderful grassroots genius of creativity.

Oh, and also, I broke a finger and am busting my gut to get a new collection/book finished and printed for an Institute of Contemporary Art event this Sunday (8 Nov) in London.

Y'all been good?

I've been kinda busy too.
I gots me a little gig in brick lane with Cats In paris on Friday 16th Oct. IT'S BLOODY FREE! Please come along and watch me make a fool of myself by operating visuals to new songs that I don't know how they go.

Also a few little smallpress things too.
There's a aternative comics and publishing thing called Handmade & Bound on 1st Nov at the St Aloysius Social Club in Euston, London.
There's the ICA - Comiket festival on 8th Nov.
There's a zine gathering at the Foundry in Old St, London on 12 Nov.
I'll be in attendance at all of these in some form or other.

My recent free comic - Box #1 - has now been distributed around England - Leeds, Newcastle, Manchester, Nottingham and Brighton. If you missed a copy, I will send you one.
It's also in Paris which is nice.
I am actually looking for someone to help me with my French studies and translating my comics into French, so if you speak the lingo, let me know.

I've made my hand-printed T-shirts at samu.co.uk £2 CHEAPER!

Also, head on over to my real blog at www.pourlafrime.blogspot.com for a scathing review of my work.

Au revoir!

The garden will have a barbeque and the upstairs space will be used for workshops, film screenings and talks. In the evening Resonance FM’s Radio Orchestra will be performing a piece written by Ed Baxter which will be interpreted and illustrated live by two teams of small press artists on overhead projectors!

Hi all.
Get in touch and let me know your well.

I've returned to London from my adventure around the UK with Cats In Paris.
Listen, the band have new songs which are so amazing that I'm having withdrawals from not hearing them night after night.
Our 12 nights performing in a row went so ace it is very sad it's over. Every gig was followed by people saying how the show simply blew them away. From London to Cardiff to Aberdeen.
I was mostly hidden so folk never suspected it was I making those pretty clips happen on the big screens. But on the occasions that people knew, even I got approached and told how much they loved things. A very nice experience indeed.

As for the stories and events that happened on the road, I kept a little diary and have put the pressure on myself to turn it into a little comicbook. So hopefully in a couple or so months I will be able to show you our tales.

Speaking of my comics, my small collection - Pour - has been reviewed at Americas most popular smallpress review site - www.poopsheetfoundation.com !
It goes:

POUR is a one-man anthology of strips by David Z Greene, a British cartoonist. I enjoyed these comics quite a bit, thanks mostly to Greene's appealing line. He puts to use a thin, delicate line (almost scratchy at times) to create funny, rubbery figures with oversized fingers. Much of his humor depends on his drawings looking funny, but he doesn't oversell it by making his line too rubbery. He's wise to keep that restraint, considering how very silly his stories are. The "Chip Buckminster" strips are about a space explorer who either does something stupid or has something horrible happen to him. The strip about suicide and depression in space and what actually killed his fellow crewmember was an especially clever gag. The old west strip about annoying salesmen from the future plaguing a town was amusing but went on a bit long, but a one-page zombie gag had a very nice rhythm to it. This mini certainly made me want to see more by this artist. - Rob Clough

Head over and have a look at the site because it is great and I am flattered that they and Rob (who has reviewed for Comics Journal) like my stuff.

That's all for now.

Speaks laters.

Current mood:  discontent

Hello to anyone out there!

Just a quickie to mention that I've been very busy working on a project I'm uber-excited about.
Good friends of mine travelled to Brazil earlier this year to film the great Rio Carnival. But not just the carnival as you might think. Here is some info as they put it:
'Suburban Madness is a documentary that intends to portray a unique social experiment.
Loucura Suburbana (Suburban Madness) is the name of the carnival group of one of Brazil's innovative Psychiatric Institutions.
Situated in Rio de Janeiro, Fundacao Nise da Silveira believes in unconventional treatments. Therefore, limited medical resources are replaced by music and dance therapy.
During Carnival, patients and staff perform together with locals as a symbol of integration and diversity.
The aim is to capture what happens when the patients escape the institution's confinement to clash with the "normal" world going crazy.
In other words, madness meets collective craziness.'

Well, the filmmakers asked me to edit the film and so this is what I'm currently sweating away on. It's looking fantastic and I should have more news in a month or two.

Also keep an eye out for my little collection of comics - 'Pour' in comics shops, and it looks like I may be in no less than 3 anthologies in the coming months. (If I get off my spotty butt and get some work done for them)
But again, more info as it arrives.

Rice and beans!

David.
