There's a little feature about Magick Orchids on the www.blogdowntown.com Please take note that there are certain misspellings/misinfo on the article: Campoy (instead of Champoy) , Ghost Care (instead of Post-Care), and we don't do TOW ourselves -though we've taken part on many of their workshops and activities (Grant Writting, Beer Brewing, Wild Food Gathering, Art SHows, etc...etc...). Check 'em out at www.towdowntown.com. Anyways, the article is what it is. And its always good to let more people know about all the stuff we do with the help of all our amazing friends. Smile hard, kiddos!

Michael Cameron wrote a review of the Werewolf Gallery Art Show we played at last Saturday with Grandpire, Halloween Swim Team, and Michael Nhat. At this show we played with the usual suspect -as always, Josh Crampton on sweet sexy sax and this time also with Meagan Boyd on badass drums and Dylan Doren on percussions. We had a blast! This is what he had to say about us:

"Closing out the night were Magick Orchids, who gave a great performance that walked a fine line between experimental noise and sound collage. The band played with chaos and control, building immersive soundscapes that could be simultaneously beautiful and disorienting. Their use of saxophone and processed sounds to create an unusual fantasy environment made them the perfect closer for the surprisingly great Werewolf party. Here’s hoping they return to the 4300 Loft for another round of art and music again soon."

We did it! Our first tour was a wonderful experience and a much appreciated opportunity to explore other parts of the country. We played shows in; Berkeley, Oakland, Portland, Olympia, Seattle and more.... We also had the opportunity to promote the online distro we are a part of called Only For the Open-Minded and had a table at Zine Fest in San Francisco!

There are some really amazing, unique venues on the west coast that we would be happy to share with you. We know what it's like to book a tour on your own and it's definitely helpful if someone can point you in the right direction! We'd also like to thank the amazing people at Eugene's college radio station, KMWVA 88.1, and Hollow Earth Radio, who invited us on the air to talk and play some tunes.

Check out some tour pics from our trip HERE!

SO BUMMED. Unfortunately, due to circumstances truly beyond our magick, the tour kickoff scheduled for tomorrow (August 7th) has been canceled. The owners of MALO are making a surprise visit in town and have decide to stay at the Funhouse for the weekend.

We were ridiculously excited to play with Tan Dollar from Irvine, our good friends The Guppies, and recent LA RECORD praised Michael Nhat, as well spend time with all of our friends before we head up north. The good news is that THE SHOW WILL BE RESCHEDULED, at MALO, most likely in the first weekend of September.

Check back with us for updates on the rescheduled date of the show. Well....only a couple of days to go and we will be off on our first tour! It's sure to be an adventure. See you in a couple of weeks!

So, we are pretty much done with all the recordings for the cassette tape we are doing for our northwest tour. we are so excited about it despite the fact that we still have some open dates we are trying to work out. we are trying to finalize the shows this week so we don't have to stress about it but its been a real challenge especially when some people don't know what to make of us. so, if you want to help out in filling up some of the dates especially PORTLAND, please do so and we would very much appreciate it. anyways, the new cassette album is called "HEXXES" and it has 11 songs, 2 of which is determined to challenge yr attention span or lack of it (again!) And it comes with free stickers! we will only have limited copies of it available.

Here is the tracklist:

SIDE A:
mind over matters (sunandspace)
bright evil goodness

far away look
vegan vampyrs

fak dat nu aidj shet!

SIDE B:
ghost of a dead medium
forbidden games

what grows in yr garden
seasick version dub
passionista (brenmar remix)
abort-retry-fail

You should be able to get it at our shows or if you want order it either through our page or the OPEN MIND DEAD Distro that we just recently had going. We are also finishing recordings we are doing with Piry and hopefully have copies of it on CD to give away on tour. Anyways, we will be playing at the Tribal Cafe tonight for Lots O Crap and the other acts will be Blue Tape Red Tape, Mixed Up Mess, and Luna Is Honey. We have been experimenting with our set-up (again!) since we played last Saturday at Betalevel with howardAMB and Bobb Bruno. Rhea will now be playing another SPD-S pad along with her Microkorg. You should come and see what soundz we can make with these babies. Anyways, next Saturday, we will be playing at The Hive Gallery in Downtown LA with the Halloween Swim Team and some other bands. Hopefully, we get to see you or you get to see us. Either way one of us gets to see the other. Yes! You! YOU EXIST!

Last Friday we were guests at High Society, a web radio show hosted by Nathan and Ryan from Kid Infinity. The show is so much fun especially since it focuses on the "herb" and other important subjects. We got to play DJ and played some of our songs and some others from bands that we like. We also got to play the bumpers we made for the show with our friend, St. Paul which the guys found hilarious. The show is every Friday and it starts at 4 until 6pm (Just in time for the 4:20! ) Despite from being pretty baked, we managed to talk about the distro we are starting, Nathan's high ideas and other important matters even off the air. And then we got some Del Taco munchies. Anyways, check them out. Hopefully, they'll have an archive of previous shows soon. These are the songs we played.

tracklist

Also, later on in the evening was a crazy ass party at The Malo Funhouse where we live. I don't know how we managed it but we got six bands to play from 10Pm at night. The Health Club, Girl With Violent Arms, Luna Is Honey, howardAMB, and Michael Nhat were all really great. We played last and i think tripped out a lot of folks. Well, we are just happy that the cops didn't come and everyone had a good time. Thanx to all for coming and having fun with us.

we have copies of the most recent recordings we have done with josh crampton of luna is honey who has been playing sweet amazing sax in the past few shows we've played. we have it available at our shows usually for five bucks donation (...if you have the dough!) to fund our upcoming northwest tour, or for free (...if you are nice and broke). it is called "THE EAST SHALL SHAKE THE WEST AWAKE". and we only made limited 100 copies. also rhea made the cover so its a rare one just for that reason alone!

pharoahs den is really cool place to play in riverside and we totally dig that they have a big sun ra mural and other info about him on the wall. i would say it was a pretty cosmic experience playing there though we weren't  at our best form last night, we met a lot of really cool people doing cool shit and played with some of our badass friends from LA.

Haun! Work your progress! Hold to! Now! Win out, ye divil ye!

Tomorrow night we will be performing at the Echo Curio but not as Magick Orchids. We will be performing in the new freaknoise group called The Regular Assholes which also involves Dylan Doren, Michael Nhat. Lee Noble, Andrew Felix, the guys and gals from Kid Infinity, Megawand, Blue Tape Red Tape, and Cobalt Cranes. This is actually our second time to perform. (the first one was at the Mountain Bar in Chinatown.) Anyways, this will be badass especially since on the same bill will be XDUGEF, Basidiomycete, and the badass motherfuckers of, The Disappearance of Planet Dwarf Pluto.

Also, tonite we will be playing at midnight at 2BAD on Temple with belly dancers, visuals?, booze and a midnight sale at 2BAD Vintage. Its on Temple and Glendale right beside Tribal Cafe. If you plan on going, bring a flashlight!
