The Process of tracking and the difference between tracking and mixing @ Chin Music Studios
There is a big difference between tracking and mixing. The process of tracking is simply this....record a scratch track to a metronome, record drums to a metronome, Edit drums with beat detective to make all drums perfectly on time, once drum editing is done...record bass in sections to get good takes, record guitar in sections to get good takes, then last but not least record vocals . I have a few different ways of doing vocals. If the singing is straight forward like rock or metal, then i just get good takes and have the singer double everything that they do. If im trying to capture a good performance, like a female voice, i will do numerous takes and comp the vocals by choosing the best takes and putting together a great performance. This is the process of tracking @ Chin Music Studios. To do this process the right way and most professionally, i suggest 1 DAY to track 1 SONG. If more than 1 song is to be tracked in one day, then i need to cut corners, like drum editing, getting the best takes, vocal comping etc. I do not suggest tracking more than 1 song a day. If the band is paid up for tracking, then i will give the band a rough mix to leave with. What they here on the rough mix is the tracking hours that they paid for.All other editing, drum replacing, mixing, automation, and mastering IS NOT INCLUDED IN TRACKING HOURS and will be done post, after the band has left the studio and after the band has paid for mixing days.
The Process of Mixing @ Chin Music Studios
The band must book the studio for mixing, they do not have to be present for mixing but they still have to pay for studio time. Mixing consists of drum replacing, all other editing, compression, EQ, Levels, Automation (flying fader), Effects (reverb, delays), and sound design (reverse, 808 drops, telephone vocal effect). To do all this and give the band a "National Record" quality mix, i suggest to book 1 DAY to mix 1 SONG. If more than 1 song is to be mixed in one day, then i have to cut corners, such as no automation, very little eq, no sound design, and just a mix with decent levels. After the band is happy with their mixes that i have sent to them via email in mp3 format, then i can master the tracks. I can usually master up to 10 songs in one 10 hour day. So i would say and average of 1 hour a song.

We pride ourselves on being the lowest priced, yet best quality studio in the US.
We, literally, will beat any quote given by another studio. Bring us a valid quote, the name of the studio and number and if we can't beat it we will give you 20 free hours of time.
Our rates start as low as $15 per hour or $150 day lock out in Studio B and as low as $25 in Studio A.
Most of the time you pay no more than $20-$30 an hour at Chin Music based on your needs. (Yes, we even do National Records that low.)
We negotiate every band differently and work within every bands financial concerns, payment plans and time constraints. Don't hesitate to ask "how low can you go".
9 times out of 10 they say, "You get what you pay for," and this is true; but we also understand many bands don't have the budgets that 99% of studios require. Come to us first and get a quote, then shop around....I bet you'll come back and we will be lower or will beat the price AND your product will sound better than 99% of the 'other' studios.
Chin Music Staff
PS: Don't forget every band that records gets submitted to labels and booking agents.....you can't beat that with a stick. (Well maybe...but it would hurt.)

Yes, to answer everyone's question we shop (submit) every band that records at Chin Music Studios to Record Labels (if the artist/band approves).
Daily we get the same question?
"Is it true that if I come record at your studio that it will be shopped to labels?"
The answer, again, is YES.
Neil Sheehan, owner of Chin Music Studios is also owner of HM Management and Standby Records.
Every Friday Neil meets with the Engineers at Chin Music and is given the recordings from the previous week.
Sheehan meets with every band after he listens to their music and will submit the bands music to labels that the band chooses.
Sheehan also will submit the music to booking agents, publishing and licensing firms, etc. if the artist/band is interested.
WHY DO THIS?
Neil Sheehan has a history of getting bands signed. With 17 bands under his belt; he has the ear of every label on both the Major and National level. Routinely labels will come to the studio or ask for material from Sheehan on a weekly basis. The Studio and Sheehan pride itself on their quality recordings and the bands that record at Chin Music. Therefore it not only helps further the bands career by shopping them but also continues the career and name of the studio and Sheehan.
SO WHY GO ANYWHERE ELSE?
At Chin Music you not only get a quality recording with national producers/engineers, but you also get submitted to record labels. What other studio provides both services for the same price as just recording? ($300 a day lockouts)
Most studios you pay thousands and then have to find someone to take those recordings to a record label. At Chin Music, its a one stop shop....and you never know....you may get an offer from Sheehan directly for his label Standby Records (distribution through Sony/RED) or get an offer from a record label, a booking agent, publishing/licensing firm that he shops your music.
Don't wait, book your time now before 2009 fills up.
For more information please feel free to email the studio:
chinmusicstudios@gmail.com
or email Neil directly at
neil@standbyrecords.net
Hope to see you in the studio soon!
