Middle Tennessee State University's SIDELINES college publication features an interesting story about the history and future of Mellow Down Easy. Jessica Pace talks with guitarist/singer Andrew Adkins and drummer Rodney Russell.

Mellow Down Easy’s back story is about as southern-rock-loreish as it gets, founded on old schoolmates, grocery store want-ads, addictions and sour relationships.

Mellow Down Easy's latest album "Cosmisutra" makes 'The Hit List' in the latest issue of
Vintage Guitar Magazine, featuring KISS' Ace Frehley. On Newstands Now!!!

  Because they come from Nashville, it'd be easy to assume Mellow Down Easy is a country band. But if you catch a look at guitarist/singer Andrew Adkins, you'll think "rock and roll". The reality is this is a diverse band that perfectly mixes many elements to make a unique sound.
  The opening track, "I Am The Universe", sets the tone, mixing psychedelia and country. The denseness of it's sound is key to the band's vibe; chiming guitars mix with fuzzy rhythm guitars and a solo with in-your-face wah. Many of the songs share the track's density. "Yesterdays" is straight country that chugs, with spacey, phased guitar and big chords. "Pure Gold" is a punchy rocker with killer guitar and guest Tommy Butler's (Jamey Johnson, Doug Stone) steel guitar flying beautifully over it all. It's a great mix. "Crazy and Wicked" is funky and full of country sensibilities. It's harmonized lead guitar figure repeats, almost hypnotizing the listener. And just when you think you have the band figured out, they close with "A Million Pages Of Ugly Stories", a lovely pop piano ballad that calls to mind The Beatles. - JH
