"[Crowell is] simply a master songwriter, no matter what the genre" –ROLLING STONE

"Crowell seems to have found the fuel to just keep getting better." –LOS ANGELES TIMES

December 4, 2008 (Chapel Hill, NC) – Rodney Crowell is nominated in the Best Contemporary Folk / Americana Album category for his album Sex & Gasoline (Work Song/Yep Roc).

Now Grammy recognized over the span of three decades, Rodney Crowell adds another milestone to an already illustrious career with this nomination for his critically acclaimed album Sex & Gasoline. Crowell previously won the 1989 Grammy Award for Best Country Song for his hit single 'After All This Time' from his legendary album Diamonds & Dirt.

Over the course of his career Rodney has written songs for some of music's most notable artists (Emmylou Harris, Bob Seger), collaborated with Johnny Cash, produced breakthrough albums (Roseanne Cash) and charted five number one hits of his own on the Billboard charts.

Sex & Gasoline was produced by sought-after artist and producer Joe Henry and its title track peaked at number 1 on the Americana Music Chart, holding strong in the top five for the past several months. The album was released through a partnership between Work Song Inc. and Yep Roc Records. This is the first nomination for Work Song and the fourth nomination for Yep Roc.

Rodney will be performing songs from Sex & Gasoline at the famed Lincoln Center in New York City on January 23, 2008.

IF YOU KNOW RODNEY ... : Sex and Gasoline is quintessential Rodney Crowell. That means it's an organic, intelligent, brooding and thought-provoking record, one that slowly unfurls with each listen. Led by producer Joe Henry, whose indie music cred carries some weight, Mr. Crowell offers 11 songs that are clever and cutting, sardonic and sentimental. And that voice of his – with its slight twang and rural rock roar – pierces every word he wrote.-- Dallas Morning News, Sept 2, 2008

"Sex and Gasoline" decries the destructive messages about the female body that pummel women and girls by the minute. With Dylanesque bite, he boils the problem down succinctly: "Pop religion, bullwhip thin / Say you ain't nothin but the shape you're in." Then in "The Rise and Fall of Intelligent Design," he questions long-held assumptions about the ever-forward march of progress. Joe Hen- ry's edgy production amplifies the muscle of Crowell's lyrics and the immediacy of his vocals.Los Angeles Times, Sept 2, 2008

Sex and Gasoline is topical and fiercely intelligent in a way that few modern country albums are-- Slant, August 31, 2008
