Just been reading a really interesting passage in a rather strange but intriguing book ""the book of music and nature" by David Rothenburg - thought this was quite a beautiful idea..

There exists in the East a legend which relates that God made a statue of clay in His own image, and asked the soul to enter into it. But the soul refused to enter into this prison, for its nature is to fly about freely, and not be limited and bound to any sort of captivity. The soul did not wish in the least to enter this prison. Then God asked the angels to play their music and, as the angels played, the soul was moved to ecstasy. Through that ecstasy – in order to make this music more clear to itself – it entered this body.

It is a beautiful legend, and much more so its mystery. The interpretation of this legend explains to us two great laws. One is that freedom is the nature of the soul, and for the soul the whole tragedy of life is the absence of that freedom which belongs to its original nature. The next mystery that this legend reveals to us is that the only reason why the soul has entered the body of clay or matter is to experience the music of life, and to make this music clear to itself. And when we sum up these two great mysteries, the third mystery, which is the mystery of all mysteries, comes to our mind: that the unlimited part of ourselves becomes limited and earthbound for the purpose of making this life, which is the outward life, more intelligible. Therefore there is one loss and one gain. The loss is the loss of freedom, and the gain is the experience of life which is fully gained by coming to this limitation of life which we call the life of the individual."

Current mood:  grateful

I've had some lovely responses recently from people who've bought my album, which I thought I'd share with you -  ok so the first is from my brother so maybe he's biased but the others are from non-relatives so I'm hoping there's a little truth in it.. :) I'm feeling mucho gratefulness and really touched at the responses! THANKYOU!!!

this is what people have said anyhow:

"It's so exciting too to hear songs I remember you playing in beta-form years ago, grown, like sketches into paintings, into these complete... scenes? I was going to say 'polished spheres', and I know you would know what I mean, but I thought of balls and chickened out. You know what? On this point there's another thing - you've also created a proper ALBUM, something which a million artists fail to do every day. Not just a collection of songs, but a whole piece. It's almost like a concept album without the ridiculous costumes or someone called "Captain Barleycorn". As I was listening to it felt like I was hearing chapters in a book - maybe a by-product of the timespan these songs were written in? - where everything flowed perfectly from one mood or sound to the next, and twisted and turned but never broke, so - key of all keys - you just had to keep listening, because you were actually being carried along. White Sun Dark Moon is a perfect title - I felt like these songs were like bright lights shining a black place. What more could anyone want, or what better could anyone possibly create with a song?"

"Finally got a moment yesterday to sit down and listen to your album in one go..I think it's brilliant. Here are some words to describe it..subtle, intricate, moving, and most of all really beautiful and enriching to listen to. I've already got favourite songs that I listen to alot, and only one song that Im waiting to grow on my fully. How brilliant it is, and how clever you are."

" I put your cd on and all the animals in the house (2 cats and one very pregnant dog) sat quietly in the room and listened. It's absolutely stunning, gave me chills up my spine. I've listened 3 times in a row now and think it's the most beautiful music I've heard in a long time. It made all my worries disappear and made me feel peaceful. The world needs to hear this album! Thankyou!"

"I have listened to your songs over and over
again-they are brilliant and very moving-you speak for
all of us sensitive and deep thinking people who find
the 'in your head' side of living such an impossible
mixture of joy and pain.Your voice is truly beautiful
and the arrangements perfect. Can't say I have a
favourite song now-I love them all-but perhaps South
which feels as if its speaking to (and for) me and
Dust have a slight lead-although then again By Far is
brilliant..so really-no winners-just
all excellent."

Cathryn Stone's music is just incredible. She has a real gift for delving deep into the soul and pulling out what is genuine and true. Reminiscent of other high-quality folk/alt-rock, yet with a flavor all its own, this music really can't be categorized, because it transcends classification. The instruments, melodies, and vocals will get into your head, your heart, and ultimately, your very soul

i'd love for you to stop.
To find time to see that small pink petal on the grass.
to pick it up and touch the tiny dewdrop in its centre,
to smile and put the dewdrop on your lip,
to suddenly see the tree from where it came,
has it always been there?!
and see a million other flowers in that one tree,
and to sit under it,
and to look up and see the sky gone pink,
and to breathe,
and to feel like yourself again,

I'd love for you to stop.

Current mood:  contemplative

It'll pass

Because it has to

Because it has to

It'll pass

Somewhere unexpected

You wont know yourself

You'll be lying in a meadow

All the scent of tomorrow

Ringing in your insides

Shining on your outsides

It'll pass

It'll pass

It'll pass

Because it has to

Because it has to

It'll pass

You'll not let this flavour taste its way

Around your mouth forever

It wont stay

It wont become you

It wont be who you truly are

It'll pass

It'll pass

It'll pass

This dark surrender

It'll pass

This long winter

This thin ice skater

Against the sun

If a thousand breaths

Or a million later

It'll pass because it has to

Because it has to

It'll pass.

Current mood:  excited

Well, we are now 7 songs down on the album, HOORAHHHHH!! and the others left are quite simple really so this shouldnt be too long now....bloody hell its been a long slog, particularly with being ill through it, but I'm quietly pleased with it so far - hope you like the new tunes on here, and thanks so much for your comments. The scariest thing about it all is getting it out there and risking everyone thinking it's shite..hehe. I'm so so grateful that so many lovely people have given their support and helped in so many ways, particularly all the musicians who've played on the album - serious moments of genius have occurred over the last year, and I'm so grateful for it. It makes me feel like people have faith in me and what I'm doing which is a lovely thing..It's the best part of this whole thing I think, being with great people, playing and hanging out..that what its all about I reckon - so THANKYOU!!!!!!!

Its a beautiful sunny day and I actually feel a bit well today so gonna enjoy it - wahoo!
