UPDATE ON US ALBUM "FORWARDS"

The reviews keep coming. Really good responses to the US album "Forwards" out now on Midnight Swimming Records, NYC / itunes: Kava Kava - Forwards

Here's an excellent review / interview in US magazine COVERS here
"Fusing big-beat club energy with Madchester-style psych-rock, Kava Kava levels off a pummeling slate of party tunes and soul-drenched slow burners."

Here's Texan magazine MADELOUD'S take on it all! here
"In these days of mash-ups and mix tapes, creating a sound out of a melange of disparate influences is par for the course, but its always a thrill to hear it done as deftly as it is here."

VERBICIDE: here
"Forwards flawlessly shifts from trip-hop to brass-heavy funk to electro-rock...There is nothing wrong here simply an incredible record that can be listened to for hours on end."

"a six-piece eclectic band that is taking the US by storm" Bier Magazine

"KAVA KAVA … fully realizes a distinct and unique sound that is bringing the indie music scene to its knees … Well-earned confidence leaks through every song like sex streams from your television.”  Indie Music Universe

"[The band]’s sound could best be described as ‘a musical rainbow.’ KAVA KAVA isn’t afraid to mix many different musical styles like, rock, psychedelic, club, electronica, soul and funk to achieve their band’s signature sound." C.W.’s Place

“KAVA KAVA is definitely a band on the come up. Their brassy, electronic rock sound is reminiscent of … contemporaries like the Kaiser Chiefs and the Chemical Brothers.”
Liv2Ride

"[The album] is a 10-track hybrid testament to that fact that Kava Kava know where they’re headed—forwards." Skope Magazine

"The band have forged a unique sound that should endear them to indie fans on both sides of the pond" Snob's Music

Here's the first review for the forthcoming long player "FORWARDS" on NYC label Midnight Swimming due digitally 16th June (US AND CANADA ONLY)

SKOPE MAGAZINE (Boston, Massachusetts) here

Much in the vein of The Chemical Brothers, The Crystal Method and Moby, Kava Kava toe the line between electronica and live instrumentation and meld the two into interwoven electro-rock tracks that range from agro alt to electronic-induced groove. The final product is a 10-track hybrid testament to that fact that Kava Kava know where they’re headed—forwards.

The album opens wearing its electronic facet on its sleeve with “Tic.” The nervous synth and vocal samples intro morph into spacey, head-bobber goodness. The “singing-in-a-tin-can” vocal delivery meshes well with the groove guitar work and the myriad of backing soundscapes. The track can only be labeled as full-bodied without being too “busy.” The groovy swagger gives way to the urgent assault of “Clarity.” Dark brooding synth and spoken word lyrics crescendo into auditory mayhem with a heavy rhythm section laying the foundation for distorted guitar work and various electronic clicks and clanks. “Bank Job” is another heavy-hitting track with their ubiquitous synth and keys work riding shotgun only to their soaring lyrical style. Earmarked by clever time changes and agro club beat tempo, the track sounds bound for the soundtrack to this summer’s next action flick. Title track “Forwards” is down tempo and demure, with pedal work laden guitar strums and echo chamber vocals. If the opening tracks can be compared to the likes of The Crystal Method, then this track sounds like Trent Reznor or Dirty Vegas touched it.

I tend to enjoy electronica more when it is used as a nuance rather than a major facet, but Kava Kava play to their strengths on Forwards and keep what they really do best at the forefront of the tracks. The multiple genres at their command, melded into a singular offering certainly keeps Kava Kava safe from any pigeon-holing, so if you can’t find them in your local music store, I would look in the “other” section.

Hey Kavaliers,

We've had a lot of love from the US, playing some dates, getting our music into some great TV shows and recently the amazing snowboarding game STOKED. The most recent development is that we finally have a US label repping us - we are anticipating a new video for the track "Clarity" (song just up on the myspace folks) and a full length album release called FORWARDS. This has been licensed for JUST the US and Canadian territories for now, but we should have the music out in other countries too soon enough. Read the label's press release here:

UK’s KAVA KAVA SIGN TO MIDNIGHT SWIMMING; NEW ALBUM “FORWARDS” COMING THIS SUMMER

“Soulful war-esque dark funk, draped in a deep pile velvety psychedelia with the sort of effortless classic rock vocal that shiny stars are surely made of." Bull & Gate, UK

New York, NY, March 25, 2009 – KAVA KAVA have been profiled as one of ‘the’ bands from the Yorkshire area of the UK to look out for. Think Corrine Bailey Rae/Kaiser Chiefs/Arctic Monkeys, and most recently Paul Marshall. Their music has been featured in TV series such as, JOHN FROM CINCINNATI, DIRT and WEEDS, and they have three songs on the newly released XBOX snowboarding game, STOKED. Their new record, FORWARDS will be released in the US on Midnight Swimming in June on digital and vinyl.  “Kava Kava has created a musical chimera that is equal parts P-Funk and Roxy Music, as indebted to Stax soul and the Philly sound as it is to the Manchester beat and Brian Eno.” Alt.Culture.US

Originally starting as four-piece psychedelic funk band gracing the underground festival and party scene, KAVA KAVA has now expanded into a fleshed out six piece that fully realizes an eclectic, yet cohesive wall of sound.

The vocals of singer Pat Fulgoni are accompanied by a revolving line-up that includes Matt Bond guitar, Martin Chung bass, Chris Corrigan drums, Steve Davies and Ian Bailey horn section alongside vocals, guitars, electronica, brass, strings and a funky rhythm section.  The dynamics between all of the different elements of KAVA KAVA truly add up to an individualistic new incarnation of sound without forgetting to pay homage to the history of those sounds.

“Should be on every funk and disco playlist, period!..Love it!" DJ Magazine (UK)

Its not on the box yet over here in the UK but people in the US wanna know what the fish is on the front cover of the download artwork. It definitely fits the vibe of the show! Can you tell us what fish this is?

...... PS by popular demand here are THE LYRICS to Kava Kava "Tic"(as featured on John From Cincinnati)

KAVA KAVA "TIC" LYRICS

There is a deadlock
You make me theorise
About the nature
Of thinking like the way you do

Lose my mind
Sometimes I got to
Do or die
Come right back to you

Best believe it
Don't let your mind deceive it
Do or die

There is a deadlock
You make me theorise
About the nature
Of thinking like the way you do

I could be with you tomorrow
Or any time I want to
I think you're kind of in danger
Don't give a fuck if I faze you
You know i always remember
You know i always remember
i think your timing is tragic
You think you're so fantastic
Make you feel this conviction
I make you feel this conviction
I know you always faked this
and now your vanity claims this
what you feel in this room
ain't no magic in a tomb
you know I always remember
just know I always remember

Lose my mind
Sometimes I got to
Lose my mind
and come right back to you
