Hey. Hope you've been well. We're playing Beat Kitchen this Sunday night, May 24th, and Chicagoist was kind enough to say some nice things about us: Pencil This In: Memorial Day Weekend In MusicSunday, 5/24
It seemed like we had to wait forever for the debut album of Chicago rock outfit Farewell Captain. When The Jersey Bounce finally arrived it was clearly worth the wait
and has been rocking our turntables into 2009. The quintet's
punk-tinged vocalizations mix with rock compositions for a sound full
of integrity and heart. Farewell Captain hit the Beat Kitchen Sunday
night with Bible Children and The Heligoats for a much needed dose of
rock in our long weekend.
Farewell Captain, Bible Children and The Heligoats, Beat Kitchen, 2100 W. Belmont, May 24, 10:30 p.m., $8
Thanks again, Chicagoist, for being so nice to us.
Sunday should be a doozy. The bands are great, we've got some new stuff and just about everybody has Monday off. And what is better for a Monday than sleeping off a wicked good Sunday without regret or employment complications? We say nothing.

We are, finally, releasing "The Jersey Bounce" tonight at the Double Door. I'd love it if each and every one of you would attend.
That is, of course, an unrealistic hope. But, with the magic of new technology that scientists are referring to as "the internet," you can still watch the show even if you can't make it to the Double Door because you live out of state or something. Like you, Mom. Sorry about all of the cursing, by the way.
I digress.
Thanks to our (new) good friends at rVibe, the show will be beamed out into outer space and back through your computer screens if you click HERE at the appropriate time.
The show starts at 9, and we're scheduled to play at 11. That's midnight your time, Mom. But you already knew that. You taught me about time zones and shit, after all. So thanks. And sorry about the cursing. Again. Even though I didn't curse the first time. That first apology was more for all the other "fucks" and whatnot strewn around in this sorry excuse for a blog.
I digress. Again.
We've been working on this record for a very long time. This is a big day for us, and we thank you for sharing it with us. When you get to the Double Door, go to the merch table and take a free CD. And, if you find one of us and are nice, we may let you drink canned beer on our canned-beer-only tab. Well, if you're mean but funny, you can have some canned beer, too.
One more time, with feeling:

Thanks again for supporting local independent music.

Tankboy over at Chicagoist wrote a lovely review of "The Jersey Bounce" that posted today. Thanks very much for the kind words, good sir:
Farewell Captain Says Hello with The Jersey Bounce
The last time we mentioned Farewell Captain we were expecting them to release an album shortly thereafter. That was a year and a half ago. Honestly, we had begun to resign ourselves to the idea that they might be one of those Chicago bands to record great albums that never saw the light of day ... but this Friday the world will finally be able to get its hot little hands on the band's debut, The Jersey Bounce.
The album is a throwback to an era when an album was only as long as it needed to be, and its nine songs know exactly when to punch their way into your brain, and when to leave you lying on the floor heaving for breath. We hate making comparisons like this, but they definitely inhabit the same section of the music world as The Hold Steady. Both bands create a torrent of classic rock and punk, both bands are believably earnest and connect on an emotional level, and both bands put on positively blistering live sets. Unlike Craig Finn, though, Farewell Captain's Mark Ruggiero actually has a somewhat flexible voice that's capable of carrying sweet melodies while simultaneously yelping, growling, screaming, and crooning.
With a sound and fury equal parts The Who and Bruce Springsteen, with a touch of Prince's soul lurking in the shadows, and the perpetual hope of the teenage years meeting the crush of adulthood head-on; The Jersey Bounce is one hell of a debut.
Farewell Captain plays tomorrow, Friday July 11, at Double Door, 1572 N Milwaukee, 9 p.m., $7, 21+

Some celestial voice, huh. I realized when I posted about the OneKindRadio thing that it had been a year to the day since we'd posted anything. Well, a Leap year to the day, anyway. Lazy, right? Perhaps. But we managed to overcome the laziness and actually finish the goddamn record we've been sitting on forever. Or for a year and a half. Eh. Six of one. Either way, the record is done, and I couldn't be happier. As we've mentioned, we're playing a show on Friday at the Double Door to celebrate the album's release, and we do hope you can attend. I'm going to post the flyer again, just because I like it: If you're out of state and would like to watch, it's going to be streamed live courtesy of our friends at rVibe - I should have the finalized details for that tomorrow. Cheers.
