Lyrikill (New Orleans, LA) is at the forefront of the .new sound of the South. movement in hiphop. His latest album, Heart & Sole, released Summer 2009, has already garnered much critical success and attention. Lyrikill has graced stages alongside Mos Def, Afrika Bambaataa, Dilated Peoples, Zion I, Camp Lo, Heiroglyphics, Living Legends, and Jurassic 5, among others, and hosts New Orleans' premier beat battle and artists showcase "soundCLASH..

Skipp Coon & Mister Nick (Jackson, MS) released their latest record, Women, Revolution, and Tennis Shoes to much critical acclaim and in doing so, have continued their mission to use hiphop as a method of creating social change. Much like Mr. Nick, Skipp.s producer, blends past musical influences into this album, Skipp Coon blends his historical knowledge with his ability to speak directly to pressing issues, creating a mood of hope, sadness and triumph.

"GRASSROOTS!" Founder & Host:
Truth Universal(New Orleans, LA) is the principle director of "GRASSROOTS!". With his political messages, traditional hiphop sensibilities, and progressive lyrical content, Truth Universal has remained a consistent talent and a true voice from the South for over a decade. While he calls the flourishing New Orleans hiphop underground home, Truth has an international perspective that he brings to his music through his birth and childhood in Diego Martin, Trinidad. Born Tajiri Kamau, Truth Universal.s family relocated to New Orleans at age four. Truth is a leader of the New Orleans hiphop scene, an outspoken voice for social change and consciousness, and an invaluable member of the New Orleans cultural economy and the greater international hiphop community.

In the words of the Immortal Rakim Allah, “It’s been a long time!” Peace family and friends! It has indeed been a while that I have done more that shot out the updates and upcoming shows. I will be doing that shortly, but I wanted to be a little less impersonal before doing so. It’s been a wonderful year thus far. We’ve been afforded opportunities to play SXSW(South by Southwest in Austin, TX), The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, and soon we will INVADE NXNE(North by Northeast) in Tornonto, ON. This year we’ve performed with Wise Intelligent, Invincible, Mr. Lif, Bomani, Armah, Buff1 & AML, D. Allie & Dante, and I’m looking forward to sharing the stage with One Be Lo, J-Live, and Many others later this year. The motto: "O-9 is MINE!" Here is footge if you missed SXSW and Jazz Fest:

Jazz Fest

SXSW '09

The highlight of the year has been having the opportunity to work with the youth at Carver Middle, and Capdau. "GRASSROOTS!" is in FULL EFFECT! Carver Middle--Check it... Peace to Teddy Picket, Michael Welch, and Carrie Craven!...

Be on the lookout for the hometown stars on the rise Tygah Woods, Dee-1, Eupham, GPC, Nesby Phips. AND my producers N.O. Bricks, Natural Born, Maxmillion, E.F. Cuttin', Crummy, etc. Don’t trip…I’m still on the ascension also…haha!

Give thanks to all of you that came to check us out or who I met at the aforementioned events. Your support is valued and needed more than ever.

Many people have asked if me why I’m not on the Hard Truth Soldiers Tour. Simple, there was a misunderstanding about whether or not I wanted to be on the tour (due to some forwarded Twitter message which made absolutely no sense), and then a disagreement of another sort altogether. I know it’s confusing, because "Change My Style," which appears on "Hard Truth Soldiers Vol. 2," is a song from the UNREALEASED album "Decolonization". I encourage you to ask Guerrilla Funk why I’m not on the tour. Click here to email them/Paris.

Be on the lookout for “Guerrilla Business” this summer! More on this soon... Also, stay tuned in for the weekly leak. How about we start that now?

.. LEAK OF THE WEEK: "Change My Style"
