Alexander Rybak receives ESC Radio Awards

"It would be exciting to return to Eurovision as a songwriter"

"A big thank you to all the listeners who voted for me", Alexander Rybak said upon receiving the trophies. Last weekend, after a tv show in Magdeburg, Germany, ESC Radio program director Jörg Rohrmeier and music director Matthias Petermann met Alexander to hand over the trophies to the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest winner from Norway. Two weeks ago, in our online poll for the Annual ESC Radio Awards, the international listeners had given Alexander the victory in two categories, "Best Song" and "Best Male Artist" of the contest. "I'm particularly happy to receive the Best Song trophy", he expressed his delight, "it's a great token of appreciation to receive an award for the art of songwriting... and an incentive too. It would be exciting to return to Eurovision as a songwriter", Alexander added.

After winning the contest at the Olympic Stadium in Moscow on May 16, his winner song "Fairytale" has managed to top the singles charts in 11 European countries, and went Top Ten in 17 countries. The song has become the most commercially successful Eurovision song since Brotherhood of Man's "Save Your Kisses For Me" in 1976.
On top of that, Alexander's debut album "Fairytales" (label: EMI) has entered the charts in 10 countries so far. The album boasts an enticing mix of lively, energetic folk-inspired tunes and intense and touching ballads. Two more songs from the album have already made it into the Top 10 Norwegian singles chart, "Funny Little Smile" and "Roll With The Wind".

Throughout the summer months, the 23-year-old Eurovision winner will perform mostly in Norway, together with the Frikar Dance Company, who appeared with him on stage in Moscow, The concert tour had been arranged already before Eurovision. "We will certainly try and comply with invitations we've been receiving from all over Europe. But it's a difficult task to satisfy all the requests", says Alexander.

A concert DVD is planned for release later this year.

Where and when the trophies for Yohanna (Best Female Artist 2009) and AySel & Arash (Best Group 2009) will be handed over, we will keep you posted here on our website.
