Where do we start? How do we get to our destination? Will you be with us?
It's been a busy July for Octave Revolt and it continues to
be busy with meetings throughout Summer! Octave received it's first
approval for the business plan, attended The New Music Seminar in New
York City, attended "Transition Your Business Through Challenge" hosted
by PCSW & NAWBO at CCSU, finished talks with Dirtbag Clothing to be
an Affiliate of Octave Revolt, & add another company, City Lights
Entertainment, which offer many unique services to Octave's Artists.
The
business plan took 10 months to be drawn up, read over by 6 different
people, and rewritten for approval. This enables Octave to improve on
professional development, artist development, upgrade to latest
technology and enroll in several different organizations to make Octave
a "Legitimate" company. Octave is extending the plan to apply for more
funds to improve and develop it's artists' career.
The New Music
Seminar provided both updated music industry information, a useful
networking partnership with many different professionals in the
industry and to introduce to those individuals the appearance of Octave
Revolt. We are welcomed by many companies and organizations which
included: A2IM - American Association of Independent Music, CD BABY,
AFTRA, Myspace Music, thebizmo, Diskmakers, FILTER Magazine,
Ourstage.com, owngig.com,The Recording Academy, SESAC,GIBSON, Yamaha,
Tunecore, Guitar Center,& more.... these companies have opened
their door to us to provide our artists opportunities most have yet to
learn about. We will be attending another conference at Foxwoods Casino
MGM, for the New England Seminar.
The women's conference
helped Octave Revolt be aware of further detail to being a business in
Connecticut. While we maintain our Industry standards it was/is
important to also open the floor to many different options to
businesses in our state. Kay's positive coaching began with the tune
from Queen, "We will rock You", which at first one will sink into one's
seat and question, what did I sign up for? What was amazing is that
even she used our industry to help get the crowd motivated. In
today's society women are in fact a minority in the business world. I
am proud to be a woman pushing to better not only my life but my
family, artists, kids, and even my better half. Another conference is
scheduled in October which will provide information of grants available
for Women business owners.
We are proud to announce that Dirtbag
Clothing Inc. has agreed to produce all of the roster's merchandise
from baby girl shirts to baseball hats as well. This opens the floor
for opportunities for Octave Bands. having a sponsor in this magnitude
helps enforce the quality in the merchandise and the ability to be a one of a
kind. octave is the first management company in the industry which
holds unsigned bands to have this opportunity. Octave will be building
the online store for their bands soon.
City Lights
Entertainment also jumps on board the Octave train. General Manager
Micheal Wood, is a music industry veteran. Discovered by Casey Kasem,
Michael was signed to indie label Top Sail Music/WEA and is now a
voting member for the Grammy Awards. After the sudden passing of
Michael Jackson, Mr. Wood has been conducting numerous radio,
television and print interviews and will continue to make himself
available as a music business/music industry expert to the media. City
lights will be providing services such as Studio work, various
licensing and booking opportunities to our Artists. we are working on our own seminar as we speak!
So as
you can see things are still being fine tuned and approved, please stay
in touch, not only support our artists but all who are in this industry.

Today i said good bye to a very grateful woman. My mother n law currently spent the last 19 days fighting hard to stay alive. My sister n law stood by and i watched her triumph her way through each decision and emotion. I get to thinking what if that was my mom? Even tho my Ex and I are no longer together I still consider my sister n law's family and my mother n law a part of our life. She did a lot for us even through the toughest time. She really wished things with her son and I would work but you can't be responsible for other's actions. She did this it was her spirit to always forgive and give what she could. I sat in that conference room trying to be strong for my sister n law but the minute the nurse quoted,"Don't hate her on how she lived life, she did her best." I lost it, she always asked me this when she gave money to help, gave of her time, and listened to me giving harsh advice, I wouldn't accept her help. My family raised us daughters to live on our own and NOTHING is ever handed to you. It felt like she did come through today while we sat together contemplating the next step in her health care. I met her 4 years ago and tho it wasn't a life time, it does feel like a very long time to know and love her.
For those not understanding this, she went into the hospital for a quad bypass. Only thing, she didn't even make it for surgery. She collapsed and CPR was given 20 minutes before they got her heart to beat again. After many ups and downs of her condition I was blessed to speak to her one last time. I knew then she wasn't long, just had that feeling. That evening will stay with me. She was so loving and she loved unconditionally. I admire her for this, she reminded me of my own ways.
We sat there and what was said to us was that it was only prolonging her dying and we needed to make a decision to take the tube out. It can be days to weeks. they are not sure but we do know several issues are not in favor. As they stated this the memories started to fill my head. Her grandchildren last saw her on Mother's Day in May,memories at the family reunion, Christmas, my wedding, birthdays, so many to hold on to alive and well. What a difference, we really believed she would be walking out of the hospital to return home and see her 6 grandkids.
So, now i sit and ponder the next 48 hours, Vanessa's play and the next level of this life I live. I have thought of doing a concert to raise money in her memory. Mom supported my beliefs, the start of my new life & in this business, in return I will be planning this as I deal with letting go of her. I'm grateful to have had the chance to say thank-you to her while she lived. You just don't get a second chance....
