PRE-RAPHAELITES+ROYAL FLUSH+More! = OOOM

OCTOBER IS A BUSY OOOM MONTH- MUSEUM, ROCK SHOW AND FILM FESTIVALS!
WATERHOUSE,MAdM,OOOM

Back to school season crisp air always whispers a rush of unknown sexy things! I am excited to report lots of MAdM OOOM activity, it’s hunt for the heart season!
My dear hunters and healers, no matter how long you have been connecting with this here blog, you must know by now, I long to connect you with OOOM. It’s been quite a journey of connecting dots, talking a lot, secretarial duties, steeping ideas and traveling here to there. It’s been far too long, but it is coming via my own independent MAdM run portal. First round of events are due to the early birth the film portion had at Sundance earlier this year. The film is riding a wave and promises to commune with more of you soon….
Starting with you, my fellow Montrealers, The fate of muses and star aligned destiny, has brought OOOM to The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. As if it wasn’t enough to be presented in such an honorable establishment, but the company that we will keep, lights my heart fully a fire! The occasion is a long awaited retrospective of the great British Pre-Raphealite painter, John William Waterhouse. His work has been a huge influence on me since before I even played music, he was one of the first (along with his renaissance soul mate Botticelli) to introduce me to myself. His exploration of women, magic and myth have played a big part in my work throughout my photography, music and into my new OOOM multi media project. A pair of daring and innovative museum director and curators, declared OOOM to be a contemporary response to Waterhouse and the Pre-Raphaelites, inviting us to live within his exhibit opening October 2nd, and running until February 5th.behind black velvet curtains, with church pews as seats, you are be invited into OOOM for our longest rung yet!

In addition to that, OOOM and I have been invited to the Royal Flush Festival in NYC later in the month. MAdM Live, for the first time since 2004, (oh my!) at the new improved Knitting Factory, and our film playing the film portion of their festival as well. We are having our European Premiere at Sitges, the leading Fantasy Film Festival. New Orleans, Woodstock, Henry Miller Library and more to come…. For those who are no where near these places, I am concocting plans to you right now!

Please see SHOWS for more info!
The hunt has begun

Hermits & Freedom in the USA

Photobucket

as promised! more tales from the road trip last month…. been a while since my mastodon vs mountains report, but there’s a lot of american goodness to sift through. yellowstone and the glaciers were clearly highlights but KANSAS was way up there. beginning with the lucky timing of visiting amelia earhart’s house and legacy on her birthday, then continuing on to lawrence and few amazing spots in between!

Photobucket

from the VIKING motel the tucked away in “little sweden” aka lindsborg,

Photobucket

to an isolated and empty old school house in the tall grass prairies sponsored by the andy warhol foundation,

Photobucket

to the most perfect buffalo burger at “local burger”, a dreamy fast healthy food chain serving burgers of all kinds made of only local ingredients,

Photobucket

to the noticeble pride of the canadian who invented basketball who once lived in kansas,
to one of the best slogans of any city in the world: FROM ASHES TO IMMORTALITY.

Photobucket

visiting lawrence, ks was an inspiration and reminder that beyond dorothy and the wizard, kansas is “the birth of the civil war”. the fire and determination for FREE STATES was fought hard in kansas, changing the course of history and moral disposition of this country. that free fighting spirit and alternative ways are still very evident there. that epic period of colorful history, is far too rich to tackles in this here blog, but i had the pleasure to discover a lesser known character from that era, that i want to introduce you to: HUGH CAMERON

Photobucket

a civil war hero, born under the sign of SCORPIO who fought for slaves and women’s rights and ended up living in a tree.

Photobucket

he was a peace loving, tree hugging spiritual man and he now lives in his own little corner of a local history museum. the legend has it, that the love of his life married another while he was away at war, and upon return he became a hermit. one day a woman laughingly said she hoped he never cut his hair until women had equal rights. he took her up on it and grew the most wizardly mane. he was straight edge and wrote a book called the USEFUL WORKER to help people with sobriety. as for why he lived in a tree, he said communing with nature gave the greatest satisfaction to the soul. i wish i could’ve visited him, and if i build a time machine I WILL!

OBAMA : DON'T FEAR IT, SHAPE IT!

i knew 9/9/9 would be a big day, and an opportunity to use the upside down 666 for good… so here i sit watching a live stream of Obamas Health Care reform. it has been dicey as of late, he seems to be taking the wimpy route as opposed to the roaring lion route that teddy K would’ve liked…. but we must give him tonight, to turn around. on my road trip last month, while bathing in the glory of this country’s landscapes, history and people, i listened to chapters of Obama’s “Audacity of Hope”. his positivity, idealism and intelligence shines through in his book. it filled me with hope AND information. so here we stand, still unsure if this backwards system will turn around in the name of the people and their needs. As a dual citizen of Canada and the USA, i have a clear perspective about the disadvantage american citizens have when it comes to health care. The statistics prove it, and individual witnesses stand by it: USA has the one of the most inefficient and corrupt health care systems in the world. I choose to live in the USA for the love of it’s spirit, it’s history and it’s people, but i have always been floored by how blinded the people are to the lack of basic opportunities they have, like MEDICATION and GOOD EDUCATION. i don’t understand the fear of spending tax dollars on health but how “they” are willing to go into debt for war and banks, but not our health? truly backwards.
when Obama was elected it was the first time I had genuine hope for change in this country - and EXTREME pride. he sets a bar that of leaders around the world should rise up to (you hear me Canada!?) …. but this health care issue is a make or break for this country’s health and prosperity. i want to believe these massive changes can happen here in this country, and that hope the skeptics will be properly informed….

INTERMISSION

Photobucket

(”Rue des Moulins: The Medical Inspection” by Toulouse- Laudrec! now that’s some wild victorian party times!)

NOW BACK TO 9/9/9
i am listening carefully to this leader speak. PUBLIC OPTION ! he just said it!!!!
YES THAT IS CHANGE that teddy k and teddy R would be proud of!
now he is addressing a letter that ted kennedy wrote to him upon learning his cancer was terminal and requested would be delivered to Obama upon his death. words of SOCIAL JUSTICE and CHARACTER OF COUNTRY! that resonated with O, during this crucial time. loosing Ted K during this crucial time was heart breaking, but hopefully invigorating to this county and it’s destiny…
“THAT IS NOT WHAT WE CAME HERE TO DO- WE DID NOT COME HERE TO FEAR THE FUTURE,
WE CAME HERE TO SHAPE IT!” YES YES YES XOXOX that was an amazing speech! THANK YOU!
may we stand together for that fellow humans.
Wherever you live! DONT FEAR IT, SHAPE IT!

Photobucket sorry for the delayed declaration of love. immediately after MAdM~OOOM met WorldCon, i was asked to play a witch in the belles of the black diamond fields HD silent film... so i had some women to possess and convert to the dark side, read tarot cards in a watch tower and woke up at the crack of dawn to throw lightning bolts at the ocean... furthermore, real witches don't use blogs but now i am back home, and going to tell you a thing or two.... the intelligence of the participants and audience at the sci-fi convention was truly inspirational. from the great minds, like neil gaiman or cory doctorow among many others... to the general public that attended my riddled with technical disasters, turn stand up comedy routine. despite the inability to play the film from top to bottom smoothly (mercury technology demons in the house, creating glitches, usually near a full moon!) the audience followed the waves with me, and showed such open ears and minds! i also experimented with a solo bass and voice only set, as i have always been terrified to do so, but figured it was time to face my fears, step up to the challenge, and no better place to do it than with a clan of sci-fi maniacs! the discussion panels were also phenomenal, made me want to go back to school or at least attend these conventions regularly (for now i will dig into boing boing and american gods...) here is a peek into others interpretation of my coming out party- these wicked people and blog had this to day about it my visit into the new world this could be used for all future OOOM calling cards from here on out! fantastically supportive and well written, thanks hellbound - FOR THE LOVE OF METAL! as a further bonus, the kingly guest of honor himself, gave me my very own click through shout out in his journal! thank you neil! NEILS JOURNAL! all in all, an amazing experience and intro to a new community of inspirational people and activities... Photobucket may i walk hand in hand into the future, outer space, dreamscapes and time machines, with my new like minded community. (sorry mister kling, i do not remember your name- but hi!) xMAdMx p.s. thanks sister cecil for recommending me to your sci-fi friends!

Photobucket ....OOOM a full moon eclipse happened today. humans and creatures alike bathed in lunar force, day or night, clouds or clear skies... we all lived under the influence today. the tides of the oceans, planetary movements and human breath, we are stepped in her honor and light, wether we knew or not. full moons make me hungry and want to receive something- the wholeness, the light, the dark side, the surface, the core... it makes me just want more. todays full moon was in capricorn - the moon embodies all things feminine, the mother, the goddess, the emotion, the magical... the capricorn, ruled by the planet saturn, is a gentle, yet extremely masculine sign, representing, the father, the provider, the warrior, the practical ... today these two energies were at play in a high and mighty way, further intensified with an eclipse; which is when the moon passes behind the earth and for a moment the suns' (the PAPA bear provider) rays are blocked, making it a dark moon. so for an incredible moment, we mere humans, on this greenish blue planet earth, at our computers here, stands between the two parental forces of masculine and feminine- which has got to make us FEEL in the deepest wells of our pores and guttural emotions and if we are lucky, even our conscience minds! i apologize, as i am simplifying it all to my elementary school girl comprehension, but what i take away from this event is, that today ,we were reminded of the dance between the eternal sources of creation: the sun and the moon - the extremes of the masculine and feminine, but reminded of our mortal selves and fleshy planet existing within that tango.... I LOVE THAT FEELING...... within my tiny world of creation, the MOON is a full time influence on me as a woman, and my new project OOOM - as the central theme is an eternal feminine force on the hunt to expose heart in the matter, the freedom in the collision, the feminine in the masculine, the dark side of the light, the healing in the wound and wrapped in love and music ... i am attempting to unveil more than my little words can say.... so please let NASA do the talking:  the beauty in the eruption, i want more! off to the moon i go hope you have a full moon hangover tomorrow..... xMAdMx

Photobucket ... the mountains and me. what on honor, on canada day, to share a page with a McKenzie brother, a New York Times Op-Ed page no less.... NYT Op-Ed Canada Day! of course i am a dual citizen and celebrate the duality- between today and the 4th, i promise i will trot in the rain, commune with the explorers, founding fathers/mothers and the kings and queens, who made the pilgrimage to this new world, and paved the way, for me and we, to be modern 21st century folks, who play loud, escape into the vortex of the virtual, and squint into the eyes of the past by gazing at the sky, rivers and mountains that received the settlers, and wonder how the future will shape them. the discovery and expansion must've surely been empowering, but also just plain practical and necessary to house our epic of explosion of flesh and borders. hurray the future is here, the past is there, and we can visit anywhere in between! it's a future-past sandwich week! la la la, le canada xMAdMx

... do as romans do.

this past month my bass brought me to rome and austin.
this magic month of march opened a few doors of exchange-
and it's about time!!!! man and woman, it's been too long.
my hands on, out of the box vehicle has slowed my carpet ride down,
but it has been scenic and educational.
my decision to be the mistress of my own musical destiny has broadened my ..hence OOOM's multi layered mode of communication)
but has also required some learning curves.
what's a girl to do without a record label?
make her own and make friends with cutting edge tech pals like topspin!
what's a girl to do when the right manager has not presented him/herself? manage yourself!
and when you are invited to play scandinavia, rome and austin without a team? put your captain hat on!
in other words friends near and far- as always my fire to connect is raging,
and my skills to make the connection are improving!
i guess i've always wanted to know how you get from a to z,
and when i embarked through the looking at the top of my music ride,
i skipped a few steps, and have been making up for lost lessons.
not to mention: the exciting, ever changing scape of the music "business"-
the shifts that have been affecting the "deal" with music.
it has encouraged everyone to go out on a lim and try new things out.
this past week at sxsw music fest,
i was blown away by the open minded ways of all people.
the change and "collapse" has liberated us-
forced us into change and experimentation.
good times to be knee deep and head on in music.
i was also blessed with amazing friends
who accompanied me along the way on my busy bee week in texas:
cecil at the helm, NARDWUAR, jeff, raja, the webb sisters, mark, little radio, jason, claire, dave, phil, stacey, seb, katie larkin, two friends from mexico, 2 friends on their 4 hour lunch break, two philly pals and last but not least,
my musical trinity: chris, adam and joe with their two guitars and drums.
all of these music lovers were there with me.
all there for the right reasons and all there for each other..... pretty wicked.

p.s. i did have the pleasure and honor to go to the amazing world of rome earlier in the month,
to play a classy evening at a bass player festival.
they offered me my own evening to do whatever i'd like to do-
so i showed the film, played a rock show
and then discussed my love of bass with the crowd. pretty dreamy-
especially because i had enough leisure time before to visit sistina chapel,
the coliseum and much more roman wonders....
i still can not believe that 4 strings bring me to such places.
hopefully i will get to you soon....
here i am with two fountains i liked very much.
