It was a week ago today I drove back from Montreal. I went up on thursday night to meet with Gus and his family for a nice dinner and glass of his fathers home made vino! We caught up and talked music like we usually do. He played me some songs from this record he just finished (a french band called Chinatown). One of the guys in that band opened up for us in Montreal years ago. His name is Julien Fargo. Anyway, the record sounds really good. Has a real 60’s vibe to it.
We grabbed a coffee on the way to the mastering suite and met up with the mastering engeneer Bryan Martin. He was an old friend of Gus’s that moved to Montreal from New York years back. He just one a grammy for a project he worked on with the guys from Frank Zappa’s band. Crazy! He only had two songs left to work on by the time we got there (The last track and our B side).
Something I really wanted to ask him to do was dump our mixes to tape and then master from the tape. Turned out he already did. Analog recording is something that I would love to do someday. But not to many producers use it and the tapes are really really expensive. However, if you record digitaly and dump it down to tape you can still capture a bit of the wormth that the tape gives off. Acording to Bryan the sound of tape is more apealing to the human ear.
He dumped the master to CD in real time so I got to sit at the sound board and hear it in it’s entirety! I can’t tell you how happy I am that we as a band have another album under our belts. Something that this time a year ago seemed so distant and unlikely because of our financial sittuation. Listening to this record only solidifys in my mind that anything you truly want in life will and can happen only if you truly want it to.
One of the best moments came after we left the studio around one in the morning. Gus and I popped in the record on his vans little shity stereo and cranked it. It sounded so good even on those speakers. So much clearity just the right amount of top and bottom end. We were driving down the main strip and three or for songs into it Gus pulled over to the side and parked the van. We sat there and listened to the whole thing again with the biggest smiles on our face. We were so pumped and I was so happy to be sitting next to the guy that put his belief in us when we had nothing going for us (Other then our motivation and a batch of home made demos). When the record finished we had a moment to digest it and gave each other a big hug. That for me sealed the deal. Everything I wanted from start to end just happend the way I wanted it to. There were ups and downs for sure. But over all this was one hell of a ride. Two passionate people sitting next to each other. Strangers a year ago. Now friends for life. That moment will be locked in my mind forever. What a true gent. Thanks Gus!
We topped off the night at one of my favorite pubs in Montreal called le pistol. We made a toast and rocked a pint (He had Guinness and I had Boreal blond). I crashed at his parents for a few hours and woke up to a nice Italian style stove top esspresso. I said my goodbyes and hopped in my car for a very long car ride back. I arrived just in time to start my eight hour shift.
We will let you know when we have a release date set.
Thanks,
Brent

Hey,

We are pleased to announce that the recording of this record has come to an end! It took a lot of self belief, determination and money but it is everything we had hoped for and more! This is the best thing we have ever amounted to in this band and our life. It’s crazy to think we have been duking it out for a decade with all of our ups and downs and then be rewarded with an opportunity like this. I will hold this moment in my heart forever and always. I really can’t express with words the emotions I feel… I have so much love in the world. I just hope you realise that with good faith in yourself we are all capable of achieving greatness. Please never hold back from anything you love. It might get scary at times and you might feel like it’s hopeless. But with perseverance your achievements will prevail in the end. You just have to believe in yourself. Always! Love what you do, love your surroundings, love people and let them know. But most importantly love yourself. I am forever grateful. We are forever grateful. Can’t wait for you to hear it! Thanks!

Love,

Brent and the lads!

Hey! We're supposed to be to getting these videos we've been recording up online but having a few problems with connecting the camera to the laptops! Hopefully we can get it up and running soon to give you a guys a little something to watch.

The recording process has been amazing so far... At first, it was really uncomfortable for me (speaking only for myself here) to have so much input from others. We haven't ever worked with a producer who was gotten so into every aspect of these tracks... And not only the songs, but our individual styles of playing. Jameson and myself have been focussing a lot on keeping our patterns locked in together... He's even started using a pick! Would you believe it!? Hahaaaa.... I am never one for being told what to do but after a few days of getting to know these guys and brainstorming with them on which songs require which kind of approach, I am starting to feel very fucking excited about where this album is going!

Aside from the ridiculously high pot prices, everything is going great here in NYC! The last two nights have been spent seeing two of my all time favorite bands! One of which, Groove Collective, I am have seen once before in '98 opening for Dave Matthews Band, but the other band, Cursive, I have never seen before! It was fucking amazing....
There are tones of shows here and tones of things to do! This city really is unique!!!

We'll keep working on getting these video updates online for you so check back when you can!!!!

So.... We've been in hiding for a while now eh? I know. I know. Trust me, it's been killing us! I think it was last November when we got home from tour and since then, about all we've been thinking about is writing! It was a lot of fun to get back into the head space for a while. And, it was refreshing to take a bit of time to ourselves... But, all the fun and games are over and it's back to fucking work!!!
We're currently in Williamsburg, New York city working on our yet to be named second full length album! It's exciting every time I say it...

We're jumping into a bit of a risk here. We've had to borrow quite a bit of money to get this record going. We've (thankfully) cut off all the ties with Universal and weren't interested in any of the interest we received for others... After an experience like working with Universal, it was very obvious that you can't let any dickhead work your records. At the time, we're not signed to anyone! We've had to borrow the cash to get this record going... But really... We've never felt better. Even our manager has said he's never felt more comfortable about our band! We are back to doing what we love, WORKING! Trying to survive! Having something to say! It's very exciting!

New York City itself is fucking mind blowing. It just screams of character. There is even a Chinesse resturaunts kitchen directly besides the front door to the place we're staying! It's an incredibly unique city. The most in the world I would say. It is really inspiring this record. And I forgot to mention these producers (Gus and his partner Warner) are handing us our asses! They are really getting into this record and bringing out areas and ideas that we've never done before! It's like going to school.
I can't wait to get some stuff up for you all to hear!

We're going to be putting some videos and pictures up of this whole trip so keep checking the myspace!

Not sure when the record will be coming out. We're kind of just getting things together... But this is an experience for the books! I find myself always getting a chuckle thinking about playing drums bringing me to NYC for a month! SWEEEEEEEET

Take care and keep checking back for the photos and videos and blogs and all that fun stuff!!

Mike

and the other guys but they're being worked! haaa....

Anyway, just quick update!

We're going to NYC to record our second full length album...

That's about it!

we'll try to get some songs to you guys as soon as possible!

Back on the road! We're just entering the second half of our East coast/Southern Ontario part of the tour and so far so good. We've ran into a few odd scenarios, like having the van broken into and someone stealing my Xbox (bastard), but things seem to balance out in the end. Shortly after the Xbox was stolen, we got offered a free one buy a friend of the guys who's house we crashed at. Odd... The shows have been great so far. Minus a few shit turn outs, the majority of the shows have been filled with really intense, enthusiastic people that have really given us some good vibes on stage. We've called it the "Back to Basics" tour cause we're really getting a great chance to see how many people are still supporting us after all the flashiness of a music video comes and goes. So far, I am flattered! Except for you PEI! Where were you last night???
We've been playing a fucking exciting new song! That's been going over surprisingly insane!!! Can't wait till you guys get to hear that.
Right now Jameson's taking a nap, Jacko's driving with Chowdaaa riding shotgun and I'm laying watching this fucked up scenery. Cape Breton is a beautiful place to see!
I've been enjoying this Interpol "Our Love to Admire" Cd latley and would like to say "Kayne West... You're an asshole and your new album is garbage".
We're all looking forward to the rest of this tour and can't wait to get back to some of these smaller towns we haven't been to in a while! See you all soon.
