....................

Hi there. We’ve had lots of people asking us where the hell we’ve been, and why the Myspace and Facebook have been lying seemingly abandoned for so long. ....

.. ..

OK, so it was my wife, and possibly someone at work, but it’s nice all the same.....

.. ..

The release of the Boy Band single in September 2007 was where all the pressure that had been building up on us really came to a head; problems with distribution and PR, sales not registering and management problems meant it all came crashing down at the end of that year (just after the quietly released Buffalo Bar EP), and those already present cracks quickly widened into a Matt Haynes shaped hole. (It was amicable though by the way).

....

Our guitarist switch in January 2008 was actually incredibly easy, but despite the massive kick up the arse the multi talented Matt Jarman instantly gave to the band, family/personal problems, touring in other bands, side projects, marriages, house moves, thinking about splitting up or changing our name, travelling, work commitments, and good old fashioned disappointment from the previous problems we’d encountered meant we did go a bit quiet, except for the odd sporadic gig.....

.. ..

However, during this time we did record an EP ourselves, “An Opuscule Worthy of a Monstrance”, produced by MJ himself which, apart from a few early promo copies, laid largely forgotten and gathering dust… until now!....

.. ..

The EP has finally just been released and is currently available on iTunes and should appear on other things like Amazon and Spotify soon.....

.. ..

But don’t go and buy it just yet! For a limited time we are giving it away as a free download, as a thank you to everyone who has actually stuck with us, and also as a cheap marketing ploy, (oh come on, you should know us by now) so please check out the Noisetrade widget below:....

.. ..

In summary we would like to apologise to anyone who thought we’ve been rude and/or ignoring them, and thank everyone all over the world who in the last 3 years has bothered to message us, send in photos, make their own GBS merchandise, help flyer our gigs, come to our gigs and generally spread the word for us. Also, special thanks go to everyone who bought that infamous single, and put up with our aggressive marketing campaign at the time. Rest assured we will not be applying so much pressure again…....

.. ..

We are in a much happier place now, making music just for ourselves and for anyone who wants to listen to it. We’re already mixing down brand new tracks for the next release, writing even brander newer songs and relearning forgotten songs for the one after that, and are in the middle of making a stop motion animated video and producing new artwork and merchandise. There should be some shows in the new year as well.....

.. ..

So please feel free to message us, comment us, post us, tweet us, scrobble us, blip us, and everything else you kids do these days.....

.. ..

See you all soon.....

.. ..

Hello all

As we last sent out an update back in May, you'd be forgiven for thinking that maybe we'd died, or quit, or were just being massively lazy. Well, we have been busy working on recording a load of new tracks for an album, which we're very excited about.

Our very own Matt Jarman is at the production helm and apart from the drums, we're recording it all at his place - a mixture of old, new, and ridiculously new - enjoying a recording environment free from time and cost restraints.

As a result, we're coming out with some of the best stuff we've ever done. It's taking all my will power and self control to stop myself attaching a link or an mp3 to this email so you can hear one of these first mixes.... I'm afraid you'll just have to wait.

In other news: Matt and myself have been collaborating on some other projects over the last few weeks, which I won't go into here but will be detailing on my new blog when I get it sorted.

OK, so I'll leave it there for now... in the meantime, if you're interested, this month I will be playing keyboards and doing backing vocals with The Splendour (http://www.myspace.com/thesplendourband) on the last few 'southern' dates of their UK tour in support of their new album:

Monday 18th August - Hoxton Bar & Grill, London
Sunday 24th August - Beachdown Festival, Brighton

See ya soon!

Hi there!

Happy New Year and all that. Hope you are well?

Sorry we didn't send round a 'hilarious' offensive xmas card this year, but we just couldn't be bothered. Well, not really, but things were a bit busy over the last few months, which I will now tell you about in tedious and unnecessary detail...

GUITARIST QUITS:
Ok, well it's a sad start to the new year, as our guitarist Matt "Norris" Haynes, known by many as the "People's Guitar Hero", (and by some as "the one who looks like Paul McCartney"), has left the band. Matt's last gig will be on Wednesday this week... (see below).

HELP FOR HEROES:

You may be aware that we performed at Headley Court, the rehabilitation centre for injured servicemen, on December 17th as part of their xmas do for the Sun-backed Help For Heroes organisation. We will also be appearing at a go karting event for the same cause this Wednesday. These aren't normal 'open to the public' events, but you can help the cause and find out
more at http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk/
Check out a couple of photos of us at the event with James May from Top Gear here:

and here:

HEATHAM HOUSE:
We will be playing an 'all ages' show once again at Heatham House this Saturday (26th), so if you're a regular down there and saw us last time, we look forward to seeing you again.
This will actually be a very different gig than usual for us because perhaps surprisingly, Matt Jarman (http://www.myspace.com/dissidentsoundindustry) will be playing guitar with us at this gig, after only a couple of rehearsals. We will even be playing some new material written with him in the last 2 weeks, so it's gonna be pretty crazy.

Check out http://www.heathamhouse.org.uk for more venue info.

NEW FACEBOOK PAGE
As Myspace and Facebook continue to copy each other's ideas, we now have a proper 'band page' on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Goodbye-Sergeants/7530456795 where we will be sending out updates and other stuff, so please go to the page and 'become a fan' so we look more popular and convince labels that it's worth their while financing our next release.

LIVE EP
If you haven't already heard it, you can download our Live EP (featuring Matt Haynes, and riddled with bad language), recorded in November last year, by following this link: http://www.goodbyesergeants.com/buffalobarlive/

Ok, well that's plenty for now, we'll be in touch again soon!

Monday, April 30, 2007

oh hello again.

first of all, we'd like to thank everyone who came down to the Watershed on Good Friday and helped pack it out! It was probably our favourite gig so far, definately one not to have missed, mainly down to the great crowd, but also cos we enjoyed playing more new stuff, and having some extra people on stage with us for the first time! Thanks to Rob for doing the keyboards, and John for doing the backing vocals, and yes, I know I'm a much better singer. Thank you to everyone who pointed that out.

We've now got a load of NEW PHOTOS from that gig, and some new 'promo' shots in a garden centre up on our website (http://www.goodbyesergeants.com) that were taken by Annette Rickard, who is a 'proper' photographer, so just go to 'gallery' and then 'live' and 'promo' to check them out. Hard to believe, but we actually look ok in some of them.

Now, by the time you read this I'll actually be in Poland, but I'll be back in good time for the Sergeants' triumphant return to the Metro on Oxford Street on SATURDAY 5th MAY.... another bank holiday weekend obviously so please come along and join us for a drink beforehand or afterwards, and I think it's actually open till 4am or something ridiculous. We'll be on second at about 8:30. Directions etc: http://www.deadoralive.org.uk/venues.htm

(flyer to follow...)

Hopefully we'll be continuing our new 'revolving door' policy and having a different backing singer for this one, and maybe playing even more new stuff, or digging out some really old stuff, or maybe just doing lounge versions of all our songs.... either way, it'll be our last London gig for a while, as we'll be back in the studio working on more new songs for the eagerly awaited* EP, as well as 15 different remixes of Boy Band.

See you soon!

Oh hi there. OK, first things first, our next gig is on Friday 6th April (Good Friday) at the Watershed in Wimbledon, and the venue have let us charge what we want, so we've reduced the price to ONLY ONE POUND! We won't make any money, but we thought 'f**k it'. Should be a great one, with new songs, and extra musicians and backing singers on stage! Download a flyer by clicking here:(http://goodbyesergeants.com/images/060407_Watershed/060407_Watershed_ONEPOUND.jpg)

And yes, Rich and Jon were indeed interviewed on BBC SCR. If you missed it, you can watch a video of them in the studio on YouTube by clicking here. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-MOujfae6ko)

We now have our Brighton gig confirmed for the end of July at the Prince Albert, which will be free entry, with the live session to follow hopefully in August. Also, we've just done another mix of Boy Band, so will hopefully be bombarding anyone who'll listen with that before long!

Current mood:  thirsty

oh hey there

As i'm sure you're aware by now, "An Ideal World" got through the panel on Phil Jackon's show on BBC SCR on Sunday, mainly thanks to everyone who emailed and texted in, so thanks again! We really appreciate your support!

So, this means we go into their studio in Brighton on SUNDAY 25th FEB to be interviewed by Phil, and will be going in again at a later date to do a LIVE SESSION.

'An Ideal World' is also now on their playlist. Not bad for a slightly rubbish song that we don't really play live anymore eh?

We'll be on about 19:10 UK time, and you can listen in Brighton on 95.3 FM, in Sussex & Surrey on 104-104.8 FM, Solent & Hampshire on 96.1 FM, and Dorset on 103.8 FM, or just LISTEN ONLINE from wherever you are at www.bbc.co.uk/southerncounties (you may need RealPlayer installed..)

We hope you manage to listen, if only to find out how tedious and boring my speaking voice is.

See ya soon!
