Vihdoin tien päällä!

Nyt se on sitten pää auki! Ekat keikat takana ja olo sen mukainen. Sitä ei osannut oikein käsittääkään miten paljon sitä on kaivannut tien päälle ja lavoille. Siitä alkaa olla jo melkein pari vuotta kun viimeksi oman bändin kanssa on päässyt rundaamaan. Ehkä siksi oli ainakin meikäläisellä hieman ylimääräisiä perhosia vatsassa. Vaikka biisit ovat soineet kiitettävästi radioissa, on silti aina jännä paikka lähteä keikalle kauas kotoa.  Ja tokihan alkuvaiheessa aina ottaa aikaa, että viesti kiirii. Mutta rundaamallahan se rupeaa kiirimään ;)

Bändihän on kovin tuore ja varsinkin siihen nähden meininki on ollut kaikilla keikoilla ihan uskomattoman siisti. Toki esim. Vaasassa ei ollut ihan täysi talo paikalla, mutta mukavat bileet saatiin siitäkin kehitettyä. Virgin Oilissa oli sitten taasen ns. kotikettäveto eli kavereita kovasti paikalla. Ehkä siitäkin syystä oli ehkä hieman ylimääräisiä perhosia vatsassa. Helsinkiin oli saapunut myös joukko innokkaita ihan Saksasta asti(!)  On jokseenkin hämmentävää huomata kuinka paljoin ihmisiä kiinnostaa. Olemme kovin otettuja kaikki tyynni!

Joensuussa alkoi jo selvästi huomata, että ryhmä on jo kovin kokenut ;) Kahden keikan kokemuksella... heh. Mutta vakavasti sanoen, mulla ainakin alkoi jo ”uusi tontti” istumaan paremmin käteen ja oli ihan mahtava huomata, että paikalle oli tullut ihan kivasti sakkia. Ja osa jengistä osas jopa biisien sanat!
Aamulla hetken etsittiin Lauria mutta löytyihan tuokin ja ehdittiin ajoissa liikkeelle. Unet tosin jäi hieman vähiin, koska Laurin piti keretä Helsingin länsisatamaan iltapäiväksi. Kaveri pääsi rentoitumaan Seiskan bileristeilylle. Eh-Heh.. Muutaman ajotunnin ja roudauksen jälkeen oli sakki kyllä lievästi sanottuna sippiä… Mutta onnellista.. :) Kaiken kaikkiaan oli todella lupauksia herättävä alku tälle rundille. Maltan tuskin odottaa seuraavia vetoja…

Ens viikolla onkin sitten luvassa kaikenlaista mukavaa. Tiistaina meidät on kutsuttu vierailulle Habbo-hotelliin, Helsinkiin. Mä oon kerran aiemmin käynyt siellä, ja se oli tosi lystiä. Mä joudun ehkä hieman editoimaan mun hahmoa.. Ja Habbon sakki on muutenkin tosi mukavaa, joten siitä tullee varmasti hienoa. Keskiviikkona päästään sitten veivaamaan muutama biisi akkareilla Wanhan kuppilassa. Samalla juhlistetaan meidän erikoismiehen Antti Rikkisen vanhenemisen vuosipäivää. Mitähän siitäkin seuraa? Ja ei voisi viikko komeammin päättyä. Me päästään veivaamaan legendaarisiin Louhela Jameihin. Tää keissi on siitäkin nostalginen, että minä ja Lauri ollaan kummatkin Myrtsin kasvattamia eikä kumpikaan ole syystä tai toisesta koskaan päässeet tuolle lavalle kipuamaan. Sormet ja varpaat ristiin, että sää näyttää samalta kuin nyt. Kaikki joukolla paikalle, tilaisuus on ilmainen eikä sinne ole ikärajaa.

On the road… finally!

It has begun! The first couple of shows are behind and the feeling is just great. I could not really imagine how much I missed being on the road until we finally were there. It is almost two years since I last played with my own band. I think that’s one of the reasons why I felt that there were a bit of extra butterfly wings in my stomach. All thou the songs have been heavily played in the radios, you never know how they have reached the people. But there’s no short cuts.. We just need to visit every town :)

The band is bran new and but the feeling inside it has been just awesome. Even if the places haven’t been quite “sold out”, the atmosphere has been extremely cool. And the band works like a clock  In Virgin Oil there were even some folks that had travelled all the way from Germany to see our show(!) It’s really amazing to see how much people really care. We are all really taken about this all!

In Joensuu one could already see that the band is getting experienced ;) Yeah I know, just after two shows.. But seriously, at least I felt more home in my “new role”. It was also so great to see that there was a nice crowd present and some even knew the words to our songs!

In the morning Lauri was missing for a short period of time but eventually he was found and we managed to hit the road in time. The night was a bit short thou, since we needed to drive Lauri to a cruise that left from Helsinki in the afternoon. Luckily it was Seiska’s(a Finnish yellow magazine) party cruise so he’ll get his rest on the boat ;) Six hours in the car and carrying all the cases back our practice place made the group “a bit” drained.. But happy.. All and all, it was a really promising start to this tour. I can’t really wait for the next shows..

The week ahead is looking pretty interesting as well. On Tuesday we are invited to pay a visit at the Habbo-hotel in Helsinki. I’ve been there once and it was really cool. I might just need to update my figure a bit ;) The folks at the Habbo hotel are also really cool so it will be great for sure. On Wednesday we get to play a small acoustic set at Wanha. We will also celebrate our dear friend, Antti Rikkinen’s, anniversary of getting elder. I wonder how that will end? The week will end with a show at the legendary Louhela Jam. It’s a pretty nostalgic moment for us since it’s a traditional festival that is located near Myyrmäki, where me and Lauri grew up. For one reason or another we both have never had a chance to climb that stage before. That will be soo cool :)

Satuimpa olemaan auton ratissa lauantaina kun Ylexillä oli Himotuimmat juuri alkanut. Korviini kantautui lause: ”Tänään ratsataan Phoenix Effectin päiväkirja..” Sillä hetkellä tajusin, että oon viimeksi päivittänyt päiväkirjaa varmaankin joskus talvella. Prkl! On ollut jokseenkin kiirus kevät ja blogin kirjoitus on autuaasti jäänyt. Mutta nyt skarpataan.. ;)

Mutta mitäs tässä on kevät puuhailtu? Bändissä ja elämässä muutenkin on pitänyt aikamoista haipakkaa. Niin kuin olen joskus aiemminkin sanonut, että oli lähtökohdat mitkä tahansa, uuden bändin kanssa aina startataan nollista. Ja se tarkoittaa käytännössä miljoonaa pientä hommaa… ja kolmea isoa. Eli aika kosolti hommaa yksille hartioille, ja välillä on tuntunut että tunnit käy päivästä vähiin. Mutta mikä mahtavinta, rintama on leventynyt huomattavasti sitten talven pimeiden iltojen, joten eiköhän me poljeta tämä mopo käyntiin.

Tarkkasilmäisimmät ovat varmaankin huomanneet, että Phoenix Effect on vihdoin ”valmis”. Henkilökohtaisesti olen pitänyt PHNX’iä bändinä ihan alusta asti. Siinä ei vaan tähän asti ole ollut kuin yksi varsinainen jäsen, heh. Ymmärrän hyvin, ettei kaikki pysty seuraamaan tuota logiikkaa, mutta oon hieman vieroksunut ajatusta sooloartistiudesta tai sooloprojektista. Musta rokkibändi on aina bändi, ja siten sen jäsentensä summa. Silläkin varjolla on siis lupa odottaa melkoisesti uusia sävyjä tämän bändin ulosantiin. Bändissä on tosiaan nyt neljä heppua; Pyry, Lauri, Anton ja meitsi. Pyry on ollut mukana enemmän tai vähemmän jo miltei vuoden ja soitellut levyllekin aika monta raitaa. Pyryn inputtia on myös jonkin verran levyn biiseissä; esim. ”King see no evil” on mun ja Pyryn kimpassa rustaama ralli. Laurin kanssa mä oon ollut jo pitkään ns. ”hyvän päivän tuttuja”. Ja kun Jakke (joka soitteli rumpuja tuossa muutamalla keikalla) heitti ajatuksen ilmaan oli asiasta äärimmäisen helppo innostua. Koko homma kävi itse asiassa ihan sairaan nopeasti. Muistaakseni homma päätettiin kaksi viikkoa ennen levynjulkkaria ja me ehdittiin treenata kimpassa tasan kaksi kertaa ennen keikkaa. Siitäkin voi jokainen päätellä millainen ammattimies Lauri on. Viimeisin lisäys ryhmään on rumpalisti Anton, joka on aiemmin toiminut mm. Feiledin vokalistina. Sittemmin mies tuli siihen tulokseen, että rummut on se juttu, ja ei voi miestä moittia.. Vaikka kaveri omistaa todella komean lauluäänen, on miehen runputtelu vähintäänkin vakuuttavaa. Komppi on siis jatkossakin äärimmäisen tukevaa. Me ollaan nyt treenailtu muutama viikko kimpassa ja on mahtava huomata miten homma toimii! Samalla ollaan muuten jo soiteltu muutamaa uutta biisiä ja ihan pirun hyvältä kuulostaa. Ehkä me tuossa kesällä koeponnistetaan niitä jossain välissä.. ;) Joka tapauksessa toivottakaamme kaikki tervetulleiksi!

Tässä välissä mun on valitettavasti kommentoitava vähän ikävämpiä asioita. Joku on saattanut huomata, että SA on julkaisemassa levyä ja tässä yhteydessä on annettu ymmärtää vireillä olevasta oikeusprosessista hieman outoja ”faktoja”. En aio ruveta tätä asiaa julkisesti vatvomaan, mutta ihan virheelliset tiedot mun on pakko korjata. Eli… Kyseessä ei todellakaan ole kunnianloukkausvaade, eikä summat ole lähelläkään seitsemännumeroisia. Asiassa on yksinkertaisesti kyse maksamattomista liksoista ja palkkioista, enkä jäksa oikein ymmärtää miksi tuollaisia asioita julkisesti väitetään. Varsinkin kun juttu on täysin julkinen ja jokainen asiasta kiinnostunut voi käydä asian halutessaan tarkistamassa.

Mutta sitten miellyttävämpiin juttuihin… Kesän keikat alkavat siis todenteolla parin viikon päästä Vaasasta ja koko sakki näyttää olevan kovin malttamattomana kapuamaan lavalle. Omalta kohdalta täytyy sanoa, että tavallaan homma jännittää ihan pirusti, mutta toisaalta on tosi levollinen olo. Koko sakki näyttää osaavan asiansa ja treeniksellä on järjestäin ollu mahtava pössis. Toivottavasti mahdollisimman moni pääsee kevään ja kesän aikana paikalle omakohtaisesti toteamaan saman. Ja lisää keikkoja sovitaan koko ajan, joten kannattaa pitää silmällä tuota ”keikat” –osastoa.

Muistakaahan muuten käydä ilmoittautumassa PE postituslistalle, jotta saatte kaikki uutiset ekana! Meitsi laittaa nyt repun olalle ja suuntaa kohti reenikämppää. Nähdään kaikilla keikoilla!

I was driving in my car on Saturday. The radio was on and Ylex’s “Himotuimmat” –countdown was about to start when I heard a phrase: “Today we will raid Phoenix Effect’s web diary…”. At that moment it hit me. It had to be February when I last wrote a blog. It has been sooo hectic spring that I’ve totally skipped writing. Let’s shape up in that section now…

But what has happened in the life of Phoenix Effect these past months? As I have said before, no matter what, a new band always starts from zero. Technically that means a million small tasks and three big ones.. That’s a whole lotta work for one person, and it has sometimes felt like 24 hours in a day is not enough. Luckily there is now more shoulders to take the weight, so I’m sure that we will get this party started…

Some of you might have noticed that Phoenix Effect is finally ”ready”. To me PHNX has always been a band, until now it has only had one permanent member thou. Heh..  I can see that the logic is a bit hard to follow, but it’s been a bit difficult for me to see myself as a solo artist. I think a rock band is always the sum of all it’s components. In that light you will hear some new vibes in the output of this band for sure in the future. There are four guys in the band now; Pyry, Lauri, Anton and me. Pyry has been involved for almost a year already and you can hear his playing on the record also. Pyry’s has also input in the some songs on the album; for ex. “King see no Evil” is something that me and Pyry wrote together. I’ve remotely known Lauri for quite some time already. When Jakke(the guy who played drums with us on a couple of shows) suggested that I should call him up, there was no need for second thoughts. The whole process went by extremely fast. I think we made the decision about two weeks prior to the release-gig, and we had time to have two practices before the show. That kinda says it all about how professional Lauri is. The last addition to our group is Anton, who has previously been the vocalist of Failed. After the band broke up, he decided to return to his original instrument; drums. All thou the man’s got a great singing voice, I have to say that I don’t remember hearing a tougher beat than his. We’ve been practicing for a couple of weeks now and I can say that there is ROCK in the air! We’ve also already tried out a couple of new songs and they are sounding extremely cool as well. Maybe we will try out some new stuff this summer. You never know… ;) But all in all, let’s give a warm welcome to all the guys to the group.

At this stage I need to comment on something less cheerful. Some of you might have noticed the SA is releasing an album and during the promo there have been some pretty strange statements about the ongoing court process. I’m not going to have a discussion about this in public but I need to correct the false information. The process is not about defamation, and the figures in the case are not even close to seven figures. The whole case is simply about unpaid fees and salaries. It’s hard to understand why something like this is stated since the whole case is public and anyone who is interested can go and check the facts form the court.

But now something completely different… The summer shows are around the corner(Yes!). We will start from Vaasa in less than two weeks and the whole gang is looking really impatient to climb the stage. I can say from my part that in a way I’m really nervous about the shows since it’s a bit new for me. But then again the band is working really well and I can honestly be calm about it all. The fact is that I’ve waited for the shows for a long time and the time is finally here. I hope as many as possible can check out our live form this summer. We are booking new shows all the time so you should definitely keep an eye on the “Tour” section of PE page.

You guys have done an amazing job with the
NRJ votings. King See No Evil has been in TOP5 day after day! This has
been noticed all over the radio field.

As mentioned in the last
post, KSNE is now added to YleX playlist and due to that it is also
votable in YleX Most Wanted (Himotuimmat) contest. This is a HUGE
opportunity to us. We did it with Broken Promises which dominated the
Most Wanted in the fall. Why wouldn't we do it again? :)

PHNX debyytti "Cyanide Skies" saatiin siis kauppoihin viikko sitten ja nyt se tekee debyyttinsä myös Suomen virallisella albuumilistalla sijalla 22.! Saavutus on vähitäänkin hieno esikoislevyn ollessa kyseessä. Kylillä on jopa kuiskittu, että levyt olivat monista paikoista jopa loppu, varsinkin pääkaupunkiseudulla. Varmin, ja useassa tapauksessa nopein ja helpoin tapa, on hankkia omasi suoraan Phoenix Effectin virallisesta webbikaupasta. Ostopäätöstä voit vauhdittaa lukasemalla uusimman suosikin levyarviopalstan ;) Kiiruusti kauppaan!

As you might have noticed, PHNX debut "Cyanide Skies" was released a week ago and now it enters the Official Finnish album chart at #22.! It is a really great achievement for a debut album. Kohta on jo helmikuu ja nyt vihdoin pääsin istahtamaan ja kirjoittamaan hieman updeittia.

Me saatiin levyn äänitykset viimeisteltyä käytännössä viikkoa ennen Joulua. Kapu raukka
sitten vietti pyhät miksaillessa biisejä masterointikuntoon. No eipä se olisi
varmaan innostukseltaan lomia halunnutkaan viettää, heh. No Kapu pistettiin
pakkolomalle sitten tammikuussa. Täytyy sanoa, että kyllä ittelläkin meinasi
rosollin santsaaminen unohtua, kun kaikki pikkusäädöt pyöri mielessä läpi
pyhien. Varsinkin kun homma oli jotenkin niin lähellä maalia. Joka tapauksessa
"me" saatiin homma pakettiin ajoissa ja nyt sitten ootellaan levyjä
tehtaalta. Hirvittää jo hiukan miltähän se mahtaa tuntua, kun sen ekaa kertaa
näkee...(!) Kannattaa muistaa laittaa muuten ennakkotilaus sisään ajoissa.
Ennakkotilaukset postitetaan 17.2., joten paketit pitäisi olla perillä juuri
18.2. TIlauksen voi tehdä Phoenix Effectin virallisessa Webshopissa.

Samalla me ollaan treenailtu helmikuun keikkoja varten. Niin kuin varmaan ootte
huomanneet, levynjulkkarit pidetään Semifinalissa 17.2. Semihän on kovin
intiimi paikka, joka vetää vain hieman yli sata henkeä. Eli kannattaa varmaan
hommata lippuja etukäteen. Hopi, hopi.. :) Meille tarjoutui myös ottaa pieni
varaslähtö keikkailuun 10.2. Helsingin Gloriassa, jossa järjestetään
"Safer Internet Day" -hyväntekeväisyystapahtuma. Siellä esiintyy
meidän lisäksi Happoradio ja Pin Ion. Koko tapahtuma on ikärajaton ja ilmainen,
joten kaikki vaan paikalle fiilistelemään. PE:n veto alkaa about 19:30.

Täytyy tässä vielä lopuksi lähettää isot terveiset niille kaikille mahtaville tyypeille,
jotka ovat osoittaneet kiinnostusta meidän street-promo-toimintaan. Ootte
mahtavia!

February is already around the corner and I finally I have a chance to sit down and type a little.  

We were more or less finished with the recordings of the album a week before Christmas. Poor mr. Captain then spent the holidays mixing the songs so they would be ready for mastering in the middle of January. Anyway, he was too anxious to leave it hanging so he saved his vacations for later. I have to say that my "time-off" followed pretty much the same agenda. It was pretty hard to just stop thinking about all the final tweaks and tunings when we were so close to the goal. All and all, "we" made the deadline and right now we are waiting for the CD's from the factory. I wonder how it feels to hold it in my hands for the very first time...(!) Remember to place your pre-order at the webshop so you will get yours in the very first wave. And remember, the official webshop will deliver it to you anywhere on the planet. The pre-orders will be shipped on the 17th so in Finland you should get it on the 18th and the rest of the world soon after.

We are also preparing for the first shows now. You might have seen that the official release party will be at the Club Semifinal on the 17th of Feb. It's an intimate club for only little over 100 people so you might want to get your ticket soon... ;) We've also been give an opportunity to stretch out legs a bit the week before at Gloria, Helsinki. The occasion is free and it's for all ages so come by and check out us along with a couple other cool bands. We will play a small set of 5-6 songs starting 19:30.

As a last thing for now I want to use the opportunity to send extra special greetings to all the lovely people who have shown interest to join our Street promotion gang. You are really priceless :)
