Encourage "Five More Friends" to Vote

Google, YouTube, MySpace, and Declare Yourself Partner For Second PSA

to Encourage Youth to Vote

(Los Angeles, CA) October 28, 2008 – Tom Cruise, Cameron Diaz, Leonardo DiCaprio, Snoop Dogg, Harrison Ford, Julia Roberts, Ben Stiller, Will Smith, Steven Spielberg, Justin Timberlake, along with Sacha Baron Cohen as "Borat," Zach Braff, Colin Farrell, Neil Patrick Harris, Scarlett Johansson, Shia LeBeouf, Tobey Maguire,  Ryan Reynolds, and Jason Segal, are featured in a second of a series of public service announcements to encourage American youth to vote in partnership with Google, YouTube, Declare Yourself, and MySpace.   The non-partisan PSA's, produced by DiCaprio's Appian Way, were created to engage and inspire young people to vote and participate in the upcoming election.

The celebrities appearing in this new "Five More Friends" PSA join a lineup of others who appeared in the first "Five Friends" PSA, all of whom who were brought together by Leonardo DiCaprio, Forest Whitaker, Tobey Maguire, and will i. am.   Others featured include: Amy Adams, Tatyana Ali, Jennifer Aniston, Kevin Bacon, Maria Bello, Halle Berry, Selma Blair, Kate Bosworth, Kevin Connolly, Courteney Cox, Ellen DeGeneres, Jaime Foxx, Jonah Hill, Dustin Hoffman, Djimon Hounsou, Anthony Kiedis, Ashton Kutcher, Adam Levine, Laura Linney, Eva Longoria, Demi Moore, Esai Morales, Natalie Portman, Giovanni Ribisi, Seth Rogan, Sarah Silverman, Ethan Suplee, Kyra Sedgwick, Michelle Trachtenberg, Usher, and Forest Whitaker.

Since it first debuted on October 1st, the "Five Friends" PSA has been viewed over 5,000,000 times.   According to all major voting registration sites, including Google, Rock the Vote, and Declare Yourself, over 300,000 new voters registered due to the video alone.

According to the Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning and Engagement, only about half of eligible voters under the age of 30 were registered to vote in 2006, and only about half of those who were registered actually voted.

The PSA's encourage voters to visit Google's voter information site - maps.google.com/vote - where voters can find out where to vote. The site links to Google's Election page - google.com/2008election - that features candidate videos from YouTube, the latest election headlines from Google News, political iGoogle gadgets and more.

Additional versions encourage young potential voters to visit the voter/election sites at YouTube, MySpace and Declare Yourself.

Thanks to everyone who passed this video along, we've had over 2 million views online and more importantly, hundreds of thousands of people have registered to vote for the very first time.  That's making a real difference.  But if you haven't registered yet, it's not too late.  Today, October 6th, is the registration deadline in 19 states -- maybe one of them is yours (take a look at the list of deadlines below).  If you haven't registered yet, go to myspace.com/impact to find out how.  And keep coming back here to see other videos that we'll be posting in the next few weeks.  This is one of the most important elections in our history so no matter who you plan to vote for, make sure you're registered.
