Yesterday, Travis Porter dropped their much anticipated video for “Go Shorty Go” alongside the
Traveeeeey mixtape, which was hosted by
DJ Ill Will &
DJ Rockstar.
“Go Shorty Go” marks the group’s first official music video, and
with its release, Travis Porter took the blogs by storm, receiving
positive buzz across the country.
The group
summed up the blog love with, “
dis prolly the biggest day we ever had in our careers yet… we on every website damn near in existance!” via Twitter.
The most notable posts came from Drake’s
blog,
WorldStarHipHop, and the taste makers over at
The Fader. With support like this,
Quez, Ali, and Strap are well on their way toward breaking into the national spotlight.
Here’s the video for “Go Shorty Go,” directed by

Hot 107.9 (404-741-1079) and V103 (404-741-9833)!
Pretty great video for an unsigned group of 19 year-olds.
My favorite part is when Strap spitts the first verse while walking through the crowd:
“Hopped off the stage, (What’s that)
Walked through the crowd, (Move)
Drunker than a white boy, blowin on that loud,
Shawty said sumpin’ but the music was too loud,
I told her come here, girl get out that crowd,
Bring your team, come fuck with my team,
Tell the waitress four bottles of Goose and thirty wings,
And now she all up on me whispering these dirty things,
Want me to make a scene just like the birdie sings,
La la la la,
Lip ring, tongue ring, girl you a freak,
winked her eye at me and said bring Quez and Li,
Ok cool shorty, we gonna party round three,
And now I got her whole team screaming Traveeeeey.”
His facial expression while walking through the crowd, and the line
about having “her whole team screaming Traveeeeey,” are the best parts
of the song.
Here’s the hook aimed at grown women in the club:
“I was walkin through the crowd and I seen her with her team,
I tapped her on the shoulder and said girl I like them jeans,
I told her, go shorty shorty go, shorty shorty go, gooooo,
Go shorty shorty go, shorty shorty go,
She was dancing like a stripper, so I had to throw some ones,
She winked her eye at me, and said it’s time to have some fun,
I told her, go shorty shorty go, shorty shorty go, gooooo,
Go shorty shorty go, shorty shorty go.”
If you really enjoyed watching “Go Shorty Go,” check out the
making of the video, which is equally as entertaining!
The midnight premier of the video on December 10th caused a bit of
commotion on Twitter while fans eagerly waited to see the finished
product. Travis Porter even
sent out a tweet apologizing to their young fans who had to stay up late on a school night!
Big shout out to
Nino and everyone at
Fli Pelican
for lacing Travis Porter with gear for the video! Download the group’s
other singles along with the no-DJ tags version of the song
here.
Taking a closer look at the mixtape,
Traveeeeey, we see that it didn’t feature any new material from the group, but did do a great job of compiling tracks off:
Streets R Us – “Lose Your Mind,” “Go Shorty Go,” “Get Naked,” “Call You,” “Bananas,” Waffle House,” and “Hell You Talmbout”
This tape serves as a way to bring fans up to speed on anything they
may have missed from the group, as well as to increase Travis Porter’s
exposure. I’ve provided a few tracks below to give you a feel for the
mixtape:
Travis Porter – “Hell U Talmbout” (Featuring Waka Flocka & Frenchie)
Waka Flocka’s facial expressions are hilarious in this fast paced, high energy video!
The song’s hook is contagious, as the group repeats “Hell U Talmbout” every other line:
“Hit the club, jump the whole line,
Hell U Talmbout,
Fuck a quarter man, we get the whole pound,
Hell U Talmbout,
Say that I aint got it on me right now?
Hell U Talmbout,
Fuck around the whole hood hold me down,
Hell U Talmbout.”
Travis Porter – “Let Me Show You”
“Let Me Show You” has the group speaking about the fame that they’ve been receiving lately.
Here’s the hook:
“This one for the folks, who said we was a joke,
They said we weren’t goin make it, and we always goin be broke,
If you know like I know, I’m on the road to blow,
And ya’ll can kiss my ass, dog, and that’s the way it goes,
Now let me show you, let me show you back then when a nigga wasn’t shit,
Now let me show you, let me show you how everybody on my dick, now.”
It’s true that Travis Porter has haters, but what emerging southern
group doesn’t? I also enjoy hearing the group quote Mike Jones’ “Back
Then” with their last verse, ha!
Travis Porter – “My Door”
“My Door” is one of my favorite tracks from the group, as it
captures their personality well. I’m also addicted to the brassy
marching band sound, it reminds me of Young Buck’s “
Get Buck.”
Travis Porter kept the best for last with their club anthem, “Turnt Up.”
I posted a video of this track tearing up the clubs in Atlanta to
help show everyone how powerful the movement behind Travis Porter is.
The only thing keeping this song from your local radio airwaves is
their lack of a major record deal.
If you’re in Atlanta and want to experience something similar to
what was shown in the video for “Turnt Up,” head to Opera Nightclub on
December 23rd for the “Go Shorty Go” video release party!
The group’s upcoming I’m A Differenter 3 mixtape will be a
major turning point in their unsigned hip hop career, as they’re
starting to grab major taste maker attention.
Until that mixtape drops,
keep an eye on Myspace’s featured artists page, as they will be receiving a spotlight from Myspace.com on December 19th!
