FM Odyssey Radio aims to raise $10,000 for PCF in Dan's name

FM Odyssey Radio has set a goal to raise an additional $10,000 for the Prostate Cancer Foundation before June 21, 2009. You can help them achieve this goal.

“Dan Fogelberg – A Retrospective Interview by Fred Migliore of FM Odyssey Radio” is a 2-CD limited-edition collector’s item featuring previously unreleased stories and insights from Dan Fogelberg as he reminisces his way through 13 full-length songs that include “To the Morning,” “Leader of the Band,” Nether Lands,“ The Last Nail,” and “Old Tennessee.” It is is available for $29.95 exclusively at: www. fmodyssey.com. Three dollars from each package sold is donated to the PCF to further research. If you haven't purchased this fantastic keepsake, this is a perfect opportunity.

Many entities are involved in supporting this project - helping us get the word out about this wonderful CD set as well as Dan's quest. The latest on board is Performing Songwriter Magazine who has included an ad in their May issue (with Elvis Costello on the front) and also more about the CD in the "letter from the editor" column. Thank you Editor Lydia Hutchinson and staff for your support!

Go to our website to order and hear clips www. fmodyssey.com. We are so grateful for the many rave reviews that have been sent; see below:

"When listening to it, you actually feel like you are sitting with two good friends who are having a lively and thoughtful conversation while sitting beside a warm fireplace. Dan talks about his work, he shares his thoughts about what inspired him at certain points in his life to pen the lyrics for his songs."

"...overall fresh, informative, and truly touching."

"The Retrospective CD is simply marvelous! The interview is terrific. Dan tells some really great stories along with explanations of several priceless songs. I encourage all DF fans to treat themselves to a copy and keep a copy of his music in your hearts."

"It's a rare chance to hear this private man speak about the inspiration and thoughts behind his incredible works."

"I am truly fascinated with the stories behind the songs."

"This CD is amazing. Not only do you get to hear some of the beloved songs but you hear his voice and his thoughts on the songs. I feel like I'm sitting down and talking with Dan when I listen to this CD. I have enjoyed listening to the CD over and over. Dan's legacy will live on forever in his music."

"To hear Dan's beautiful voice speaking and giving the heartfelt reasons he wrote each song, brought such joy and warmth to my heart, as his music has always done. His music has gotten me through intense grief and been a life long companion and now hearing him speak before the music is played is a great gift!"

I'm touched and almost speechless with gratitude for what these "Dan Fans" have written. Had to share with my friends!

Christmas came early for me as I just finished listening to Dan Fogelberg: A Retrospective Interview! I purchased this cd, not for the music (as I have it all, of course!) but for the rare chance to hear this private man speak about the inspiration and thoughts behind his incredible works. Much to my happiness, the interviewer, Fred Migliore, did an outstanding job of engaging Dan with insightful, well thought out questions. To hear Dan laugh, reminisce and enlighten us with each track was a treat I shall treasure! Cheers to FM Odessey for making this available for all to hear! -

C.H.

Just received the CD's (an early christmas present to myself). What a spectacular moment frozen in time. Dan's sense of humor and goodness shines through. It saddens me that we have lost such a wonderful, insightful, and talented singer - song writer. And it makes me wonder what he would have to say about these crazy, corrupt times we are living in.

It's a great double CD and a wonderful addition to his legacy.

Thanks again for capturing and sharing that moment in time for all us "Dan Fans".

Peace,

D. S.

I just received and listened to the retrospective you have released from your interview with Dan Fogelberg. I am writing to offer my gratitude. This is a wonderful snapshot of Dan and his music. It is a treasure for all DanFans because it gives us a glimpse into his life, his art, his performance. I am deeply grateful that you have released this beautiful tribute and extraordinary gem to those of us out here who also ache that we had to give him back to God so soon. May you be richly blessed for your generosity.
D. W.

Just received your CDs - Thank you so much for putting this beautiful package together. As a HUGE Dan Fogelberg fan for years and years, I so appreciate this gift and will enjoy it for many years to come. It's like having you and Dan right in my living room! :)

Thank you again from the bottom of my heart.

Wow! Thinking back on it, the Dan Fogelberg interview was almost as much fun to prepare for as it was to do. Dan had just released the 3 CD box set called Portrait - The Music of Dan Fogelberg. Having made Dan a staple on our weekly radio show, FM Odyssey, I thought it would be really neat to talk to him and bring out to the audience the side of Dan that most people never knew.

I spoke to his management company and they arranged to have Dan and I chat before a concert he was doing at the King Center in Melbourne, FL which ironically is in my backyard!

Preparing for it was fun. One of the perks in doing radio is the option of taking ownership! So I sat down and I wrote down my all time FAVORITE Dan songs. No CD's in front of me. Nothing between my brain and the paper but a pencil and I began to put these songs down. After finishing I went to the Portrait Box Set to see how many were on there and all but one was; so these songs represent all the music you hear in this 2 hour interview.

The other thing I had in my favor [to create an intimate interview] is that artists, for the most part, only want to talk about their most recent work which makes you have to get creative to slip in a question or two about a legendary song that they didn't come to talk about. In this case - since it was a retrospective CD, there were no "off limits" about what we could talk about.

The questions I asked him in this interview were not necessarily written down in advance but were manifested from the flow he and I had by being in "the moment" with each other. Dan and I had a real good time. In our minds, the microphones in front of us disappeared and it was like two friends chatting on a park bench!

He was charming, stimulating and was certainly relieved that he wasn't being asked the same stupid questions that most had asked him during his career.

I was in LA last December when I received a call that we had lost Dan. How did I mourn? The way I always do. By immediately going to my vast library of music and interviews I have done and continue to do over the past 17 years to try to find something to console my audience.

In this case it was my interview with Dan. We rebroadcast it and got so many emails from fans and even program directors at at our 30 affiliate radio stations about how much they loved it.

One of the passions I continue to pursue is to expand FM Odyssey's base of listeners. Remind many of them and reeducate others how radio is supposed to be done - and who the people were that played a role in the most phenomenal generation of music the world has ever seen. So I decided in April, that I was going to become educated on how to obtain licensing from Sony for all the songs I used during this interview. Talk about education through a fire hose - it was amazing.

So after many months and thousands of dollars invested in master licenses, etc. - it's ready!

On my way home today from running errands, I decided to stop by a little thrift store that I often pass, but have never taken the time to visit. From the moment I opened the door, it was as if I was being pushed toward the center isle. There in the midst of other people's unwanted items was a table with six old produce crates sitting on it. In those crates, I found gold! Well, o.k., they were albums, but it was like finding gold to me. My fingers flipped past fossils like Perry Como and Pat Boone as if they had a mind of their own and knew exactly what they wanted. Suddenly, my fingers gripped their selection and raised it to my disbelieving eyes.

I held in my hands a pristine copy of Twin Sons of Different Mothers,  the 1978 album that Dan Fogelberg put together with Tim Weisberg. I purchased my treasure and rushed back to the studio to play it. The sound quality was truly divine, and the CD version that I have just pales in comparison! Listening to the album reminded me of the conversation I had with Dan, during my interview with him, about the song, "Tell Me to My Face." I have posted a clip of that conversation for everyone to enjoy.
