Sad days, sad faces.

Just a little note to say there is no more Johnny and the Mullets.

Its been a very long time, in these parts. We all grew up together, and without eachother these past years could have been very different. But its time to call it a day. We're growing older, and we all want different things. We all needed to let go of this. It has been the best years we have ever had. Yes, thats years. 5 or more. We never really knew exactly how many, Paige and I say 6, 7, 8 whatever makes us feel good.

The fact is, we cant carry on, there are too many things in life we all have to do. And its not fair to carry on something half hearted. We are all still friends, not because we have to be. But because we are.

We just dont love it like we used to, and all know its for the best.

The mullets came round my house a few weeks or so ago, we went through all the old videos like a married threesome, and it was great. The 65 years together have been the best. Full of the best memories, and best times.

To explain a little clearer, god invented sections and pictures. So here we go ;

The Beginning

We all met at Southend High School for Girls, this is a grammar school, for clever people and that. We were put together by a Mr Vic Collins. He used to be in the Kursaal Flyers, and is a G-O-D in every sense of the word.

We used to play covers, and wrote a couple of originals, we wore feather boas, funny hats. We were cool, some may say too cool. This is VERY OLD TIMES. We were once a 5 piece you know, 5.

This is the oldest picture I could find. Baby faces, baby eyes.

The Middle

So after a couple of years and playing Club Riga to school friends every month, we had our first change, and became a 3 piece. It was very scary, it all started at The Kings Head in rochford. We played a gig there, that night we discovered Alchohol, and music. For any bands, the kings head is the BEST place you can play in the world. It was the first time anyone ever said our lyrics were good, or told us how we could be better and where to play and looked up paiges dress, and after that gig, Amy, Paige and I started gigging properly.

This is one of our first gigs as a 3 piece, at The Twist in Colchester. Supporting the (now LEGENDARY) Statiks and Astrophil and Stella.

GOD that is a DISGUSTING picture.

That night we met colchester, weve been seeing colchester ever since. So after that, we played gigs where we could, some favourites have been The Kings Head, The Twist, Sundown at the Royal, Klangstation Germany, Oak bar, V Bar. So on, SO ON.  All these gigs have Malibu Woo woo in common. The glue of music.

See the trouble is, with playing all of these wonderful places is you meet terrible people who make you drink gallons of the stuff. Glorius moments have been had such as

Amy's squeal in fogs car, before falling out of it in Germany.

Paige at Noels, "Got any roll, noel?"

Me being sick everywhere, every gig. The family fav was the groin.

We made a record, we never tried selling it. Because no one likes us, for your information it would have been exactly the songs on myspace plus 3 more BUT CONTAINED IN CARDBOARD.

Thanksya to all the people who lent us equiptment. We have never played a gig with all our own equiptment. Being female is fantastic.

Jon Statik, Steve, Silver Light Reaction, The Seasiders, Ian kings head, Alex Webber, Astrophil and Stella, Lezzies, Old men. "Can we have a lunch date?" Sundown, Southend Beat, Giggies "You were shit when I saw you, but a ladder did fall on your head"

"Girls cant play instruments" "Are you all lezzies?"

Thanksya to the few people who came and watched our gigs, to the few who listened to our songs, and for the few who will read this.

Shame we never won a brit award. This is a fucking good speech.

The end

We are looking for one last gig, hopefully at the Kings head, but it may never happen. We might just play in paiges kitchen instead, then eat cakes and biscuits. We will all be carrying on in our own little ways, so keep your peepers open.

Its been lovely,

 we shall say bye bye.

Thats bye bye from us

And bye bye from you please, be polite.

Johnny and the Mullets, Jenny and the Moolins, Johny and the Mulets, Johnny Mullets, Jonny and the Muletts

Mel, Amy, Paige,

Why hello you dirty little swines.

In this ISSUE of information, we shall be posting TWO live recordings of our NEW songs! Limited downloads ONLY so be quick, QUICK AS LIGHT, and SHARP as the night....READ ON for the link to download....

So news news news! Reviews, and such.

In the words of Marvin Gaye, whats going on?

Well paige has gone of the rails slightly, getting stoned all the time. You can see this here. SMASHED. Utterly Pebbled.

Since our last bloggings we have  played a few lovely gigs, which were gorgeous like a newly bloomed tulip.

First of all.... KINGS HEAD yesyesyes! Our FAVOURITE pub in the whole wide world, we went back (for good) to have a little play, got far too piddled. We played with Deferred Success who are FANNYTASTIC. We had a good old JIG. Here is a picture of us jigging on stage.

Good times! Mel's crazy Nan and her boyfriend graham in the picture. Shes always piddled. Fantastic. She kept trying to give mel water, over the PA system.

THEN THEN THEN we played in BRIGHTON! Yes yes yes! Goodtimes were had.

Clearly enjoyed the sunshine.

Amy fuuuucking sat arouuuund enjoying some Scampi, Ive heard it was delicious scampi. THE MINI FISH of the sea. Oh yes.

Oh and we played a gig there, its not all scampi and pebbles being in a band. It went well, there wasnt a fantastic turnout but it was GREAT GREAT FUN thankyou Noiiisy Zine for putting it on! And the bands were beautiful like blooming olive trees.

This is what Amy thinks about the past few weeks

WINDY.

SO SO SO SO SO the LIVE SONGS!

These two songs were recorded when we played at the V bar with silverlight reaction. Seeee the blog before for tales. We all need to see the wingburger again.

Theres only a few downloads on this, and its only up for a few days! So let us know what you think of the new DEATH songs. (Songs of Death chapter 3 - 27)

Haven't you heard?

Why hello beauties, we thought it was time for a little bloggins, bilbo bloggins time.

So NEWS "thoughts, views" SURE, what have we been upto?

Well lets start things off with a little picture, now we're famous we eat TOP CLASS cuisine before gigs, got to keep that stamina up. Our advice for a good diet would be the wingburger

Obviously a tasty treat for all. Bit of advice, never go to chelmsford. Ever. If you want to eat that is. Of course, if you live in chelmsford then our advice is never go out of chelmsford, wingburgers are frowned upon round here. FACT.

We have been gigging too, its not all lay around eating wingburgers and being famous for us. We played a fucking lovely gig with the ALMOST ORGASMIC Silver light Reaction at The V Bar, this was enjoyed by all, Mel broke 3 guitar strings in one song, probably a record. Its our new death songs, bad omens. We then partook in malibu woo woos and music playing back at little lee's pad.

This happened at some point too, not too sure when.

We played an acoustic gig at the wonderfully grotty Saks, this was very very fun. Paige smacked around on those bins like a pervert whacks away at any good oppurtunity. Amy decided to sit down on a bin when we played, she was a very tired bear. But of course, its tiring being famous.

]

We tested out all the new songs we have written, and they are going very well. We may write some more at some point, or go along the kaiser chief route and just release one song over and over again. We're not quite sure yet.

We were going to sign to management too, but decided against it. As we manage alright at the moment. So unfortunately the Johnny and The Mullets pants and lingerie range will have to wait. Unless you ask us personally, we're pretty amazing with a few crayolas. TELL YA THAT FOR NUFFIN.

We also played a lovely gig for GIRLS OUT LOUD at The Oak Bar, that was great great fun, apart from the fact they advertised Jager Bombs and didnt have any Jagermeister. WHO IS HAPPY ABOUT THAT? I dont think anyone is.

We played "the personal fav set" of the Essex Rocks tour, although the LAZY people at essex rocks couldnt be bothered to include the words "and the" on the board. So from NOW ON we will only answer to "johnny mullets" as you see here....

Ohhhh the fun we have had in the past few months! This year is the year of the goat, and as giggly goats, we're very excited. OH YES!

So whats next? Because you want to know of course, who doesn't? People who are dead. Because they're dead. And thats not good times for anyone is it?

THIS WEEKEND - On the sunday we're playing acoustically for SUNDOWN at the ROYAL HOTEL we bloody love sundown, because it has art and poetry and musics, you should love it too. Its a nice hazy evening gig, ends at 10pm which means you can go home in the light. It will feel like you never even went out.

THEN - On Monday EVENING we will be on the fuuuucking radio, we did an interview for the new Southend Radio thing, tune in. 105.1fm at 7ishpm. You'll get to hear Amy's radio voice. Its amazing.

THEN THEN THEN - We are playing with the AMAZING Ten Tigers, Faschoda Crisis and Machines at VOLKS in brighton for the fringe festival. Its a punk night, so don't forget your safety pins.

Then a few weeks after that we're playing at a festival ALL FOR WOMEN how fuuuucking lovely is that! Girls Out Loud are in our top friends, clickety click on thems and you'll find out more (because we can't remember)

Theres more and stuff. But this is probably too long as it is. BUT IF YOU HAS A PROBLEM WITH IT then don't because we're famous now, we dont want bitter beavers! No one wants that.

Popular phrases of the past few months include

" You're band are like serpants, Im not easy to seduce. But you've seduced me. You're raw man, RAW"

Girl outside bakers oven :My friend and I had listened to you on myspace, and we came to see you at the Freight House last year. We totally loved you when we heard you on myspace

Mel : Oh really? Thanks, glad you..

Girl : Then we saw you live, you played 2 songs then screamed for paiges dad to go on stage and you couldnt stand up. You weren't what we expected

Mel : A ladder did fall on my head 5 minutes before we played

Girl : Thats no excuse.

THANKYA GOODNIGHT

Mel, Paige, Amy

Well so it is, just like we said it would be.

The year 2008 is in full swing, there was no doomsday, no end of the world, we're all still here. We spent new years in various situations, one included a park. That was cold, should've worn our mittens.

So this glorius year has begun and we have alot of plans, we are currently in the process of signing to management, which means you'll be able to purchase underwear with our face on, surely the ideal mother's day gift.

We played at Tommy Flynns in Camden a couple of weeks ago, good times were had by all, spectacular candles at that place, lovely decor. We've also been writing lots of new songys, they're very dark and spooky, mostly about death and pain. We're taking a new route. Thats us there, having a good old tinkle on the strings.

We have lovely things coming up, a gig at The Oak Bar, Stoke Newington, London ; which is all women, so unless you tuck away your manly bits, no coming in. Its going to be a very fun night, ESPECIALLY as its Paige's birthday the day before. So thats this friday 1st Feb, lovely!

We also have a few more giggies coming up, acoustic (bin barrels etc) at Saks 28th Feb, a couple with Essex Rocks, and then a very exciting do at Brighton Fringe Festival oooh yes! Theres also more, but we cannot remember, its the dementia settling in.

We hope you all had a lovely new year, make sure you come along to our giggys, have a little dance and listen out for the new death songs. Good times!

2007.

So as it is now 2008, we shall do what every human does, reflect. Think about last year and all the regrets and woe we have suffered. Or we will write about our fav timmy times.

Goodo.

Mel "sausage hands" Patman

2007 has been the best year, it's had the biggest changes. We started off with 5 mullets, and then we were 3. We've learnt a lot this year, found out the glory holes of southend, and the not so glorious holes.

We've written a record, played near and far and I got a free guitar from the lovely Si and Will, that's always nice.

Started drinking too much, I had a couple of haircuts, but my hair still looks the same. Some things never change.

Favourite bands of 2007

The bands I have loved the most this year are The Statiks, Astrophil and Stella, British Standard and The Seasiders. Oooh they make me tingle. Also Guillemots, Tegan and Sara and Arcade Fire were wonderful live. Oooh eck.

Favourite Gigs

The best gig I saw was probably Goldmaster Allstars the first time I saw them. Cant quite remember when that was…it was the night before the "Clacton stonar hotel incident"

Of course Astrophil and Stella and The Statiks in Germany. Even if I did have to keep dodging the terrifying man who wanted to buy me lots of drinks. And then kept standing too close. Strawberry Girl, This Song is for you, I know, For the Sea. Oooohh.

And Guillemots, at somerset house. It didn't rain, good times. Or at Brixton, when I got covered in bits of toilet paper. More good times.

Best moments

The best moment was getting off the plane in Germany and smoking everywhere I wanted to. And Amy falling backwards out of Fog's car. Oh and in Manchester when Paige and I found "Mctuckys" and her dad getting slowly more and more drunk in a lesbian bar. Every time at the Kings Head. The Stonar Hotel. Good times.

Best gigs

We've played quite a few gigs this year, The Twist was great fun, Klangstation of course, Vanilla was quite good apart from Paige's drumkit falling apart and I ended up doing an Amy Winehouse medley to use up time. The grand on my birthday when everyone was sitting down swaying to hallelujah while Amy and Paige went to the toilet. Lots of times at The Grand with Si and Will. Good times

Not so Best gigs

Worst gigs, probably Halloween at the freight house. Before going on, a ladder fell on my head, then we realised we couldn't really walk. We got through 2 and a half songs, with me screaming " Paige is that your daddy? BRING HIM UP!" and then being upstaged and made fools of by 12 year olds. Who were like a mini Donny Tourette tribute act. However, it was great fun.  Bad times.

Rambling

In 2007 we have played with the nicest people, in some lovely and not so lovely places, and been terrible and not so terrible. We hope 2008 will be much of the same, good times.

Amy "Tiddles" Taylor

2007 has been indescribably good. Starting from the end of June i believe. Meeting brilliant talented people. Playing great places. Playing crappy places. Just everythiiing.

Favourite bands of 2007

Well to say there is a best band is a strong word because there is a lot of great talent about. However, i think 'famous' new bands have been lacking in 2007. I'd give it to the comeback of The Who and my refound love for Five. The summer introduced me to many fantastic local bands that make me proud to be a southendian. I think the band that most made me think you are ACTUALLY amazing are The Maze Band because they are all such talented beings.

Favourite Songs

Famoso song fave would be American Wedding- Gogol Bordello because it makes me want to crash around in an unladylike manner. Well sort of local but not, the best song i heard in 2007, Yes by Astrophil and Stella/The Statiks plus many more of theirs. As well as, (as a year is a fairly long time); Is this romantic- All About Kings, You only love me when you're drunk-The Seasiders, Aries- The Local Wildlife, New Friends Better-The Virgo Intacta and just tooo many to mention.

Favourite Gig

Best gig i would say Gogol Bordello at Reading-everyone just went crazy to that gypsy punk soooound and by far the best The Who at Wembley which was as imagined-brilliant, i wish i could witness the work of Keith Moon though :( Locally, The Goldmaster Allstars at The Royal, everyone got into that reggae groooove.

Best moments

Best moment at The Freight House with the hair-flailing, gale-making fans and paige on the floor.
The Stonar story. It should be published.
Being on stage and thinking my god we are actually here.
Oh and the egg and spoon race at The Kings Head for Sophie Burrooooows' birfdee.

Best gigs

The Klangstation, Bonn was refreshing and different AND we got free snacks and beverages! *hiiiint* they had gummy bears! baskets of gummy bears...OR the time at The Grand i remember (some i do not recall) when paige and i ran off to the toilet whilst mel played Hallelujah. Too much of the Maggie C's i believe. What else. We are trampy cider drinkers. I also smacked into a door on the way and just pretended no one saw. Plus many nights at The Kings Head, The Grand on a tuesday with Si and Will, gigs where we managed to make friends with other bands. British Standard we keep crossing paths.

Not so best gigs

Our worst gig but probably one of our best moments The Freight House halloween. What memories. There was no 'Mel are you okay!?' when a ladder fell on her head, just an uncontrollable laugh from us all.

Ramble

I look forward to this year very much, take a lot to beat 2007, but we'll have a good go.
We have some tasty things coming up- Festival time with Girls out loud and Brighton Fringe sounds spiffing. Then theres the tour with our pal Phil Collins. haaaaaaahaaaa i joke i joke.

Paige "Clumsy Legs" Ockendon

Its been my best year eveeerr, but wouldn't have been near as good without being in ye olde band. Ive met some of the best people through it and had some of the best times...good lord im like an advert haha

Favourite bands

My faaave would probably be the Dresden Dolls because ive never really heard a band like them and Yes, Virginia is my favourite album ever.
I think one of the best local bands are the Dirty Fairies because they go so well together and are just a really good bandeeeeee! Also i think we can relate to them, 3 girls and whatnot which is also a delight.
And I love how alcohol actually is a member of the Seasiders

Favourite Songs

blahegg there are too many famous ones!
I love "New Friends Better" by the Virgo Intacta because its got an unusual sound and you have to sing along to it because the words are so triumphant, yyaehhs
"Strawberry Girl" by the Statiks/Astrophil and Stella brings back a lot of memories, siiiigghhhh! its a lovely song :]

Favourite Gigs

The best gig I saw this year was Prince at the O2 because everyone was having such a good time and he was SO good live (and hes SO SEXY), and the whole of reading was amazing.
The best local gig I saw was Fashoda Crisis, they have loads of energy and they look like they enjoy playing which makes you enjoy it more. I must AGREEE the goldmasters are fabulooouuss for the same reasons

Best moment

Errmmmee probably getting an encore at the klangstation, because we were so nervous before we played incase everyone was going to hate us. Dancing about to Astrophil and the Statiks was loveleeeyyy because we were like "AYYEEE we did iiiit!" hahahaha what a cheese, but there have been loads
GOOOOOD times

Best gigs

I think either the Klangstation/nights at the grand with Si and Will/Vanilla/nights at the Kings Head because they were all very STIMULATING and the audience really seemed to listen which is nice. The nights at the freighthouse were rather scrumpe too

Not so best gigs

Musically wise, mels birthday haaaa but it was one of the best gigs in all the other ways :] cider can be a beautiful thing. I think i was just hitting everything at once but still not in time, sounded just smashing...

Ramble

I went to the fringe festival in brighton last year and there was so much going on, so im so excite that were actually playing it this year, rrrrreeeeeeee!

Good evening you little piglets!

After our venture to the wonderful Germany, we did an interview for the German web magazine www.theheadhoops.org

On the site you can read our interview in German and theres also interviews with lots of lovely bands.

If you cannot read German, here is the interview in English.

Updates of all of our Germany stories will be following shortly, for now...read on you little swines!

1.      First of all, how would you describe your band in 3 words?..:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Mel : Errr…Juicy, Tasty, Sweaty!

Paige : scrumpy, delightful and VIBRANT

Mel : Haha this is going well.

Amy : Commendable, Capital, Well Behaved

Paige : Mine are rubbish !

2.      you just came back from Germany - how was it like to play over here?

Amy : Brilliant! I loved the crowd, it was such a great experience, we'll be returning soon!

Mel : Yeah, it was great; the crowd are a lot of fun and so friendly, it was our favourite show. And you are much better dancers than the English crowd

Paige : yeah I'd definitely love to go back, we were sad to go!! It was also great to play with Astrophil and Stella and The Statiks who we love a lot.

3. Tell us something about your band history, how did you get together and what's the name about?

Amy: It started many moons ago…

Paige : we all met in our first year at high school and have all been in the band since it started, and is going on for 6 years now

Mel : We've played a lot of gigs and always have a great time performing live, the name..who knows! I made it up a long time ago and it stuck

Amy : We often get called things like "Jenny and the Moolins?" when people don't understand!

Paige : And people expect a boy band with bad haircuts haha

4. You're an all-girl band - is it something special for you or is it just a non-relevant fact that... happened?

Mel : We don't really like making a big deal out of it. But we hope we change a few stereotypes of the usual "girl band" idea.

Amy : And it just happened, because we were in an all girl high school!

Paige : I think we get on so well because of it as well

Mel : It makes sharing a room a lot easier as well!

5. What do you have that boy bands don't have?

Mel : Boobies!

Amy : Sex appeal hahah

Mel : Modesty

 Paige : BEARDS!

6.One of your songs is called "sheena is a parasite fuck off" (?) - what's it about, don't you like the horrors?

Amy : To be honest I have not heard much of the horrors music, it didn't really thrill me. I think they care more about how they look than the actual music

Mel : Its more about the boring music around the "indie" scene in England at the moment, its all about image and the bands don't seem to care about the music or have anything to say.

Paige : Its just commenting on a music scene that we really don't fit into

Mel : And the horrors wear their trousers too tight!

Amy: They'll make themselves infertile!

7.And last but not least, the question we ask everyone: what would you like to start a big demonstration against

Mel : Boring music!

Paige : Rude people!

Amy : The lack of cider in Bonn! Haha
