Clear poll result regarding Goth for Earth campaign from
GriffonVox at WGT, 2009Apparently the black scene thinks significantly greener than assumed.
In an opinion poll run at this year’s WGT around 650 goths gave their opinion about
ecological rethinking related to festivals and music press. Allegations about an
increasing consumption-oriented scene are not supported by a quite opposite result:
Every fifth respondent is already involved in environmental projects and
one in three gets green electricity.
The majority of the interviewees favored the use of green electricity at festivals
(87,5%) and as well 90.7% were in favor of not using plastic tableware. Also 9 out
of 10 visitors would like to have more (or even any) organic food stalls - a clear
indication for organizers, who might still have been reluctant in the implementation of
these points…
The complete poll report can be viewed at the campaign website.
Below a banner with the inscription “Always vote for Mother Nature” the festival visitors
could put their votes quite visibly into the scales. Whilst on the one side of it the paper
slips piled up, on the other side Knut, the polar bear, got more up-lifted by every vote
until at the end he could escape from certain death.
The campaign kicked off with an extraordinary street performance from the band
GriffonVox and run in front of the Moritzbastei in town center and in the festival area.
Together with the label GrenTzwert the band is initiator and driving force of the
campaign and is supported also by a number of partners. Those, coming from both,
local and regional sites out of the music scene and from the media support in press
work, merchandising and advertising.
Lord Athanor, the band’s singer, was pleased about the large response GriffonVox could
cause with the campaign on both sides, within the gothic scene and with the general
public.
“Through such actions we want to draw attention to the fact that everybody can do
something for the environment and that together there is really big potential for
change. The audience feedback was very positive and the participation in the poll
exceeded all our expectations. We have set the ball rolling and we now hope for ideas
and supporters out of the scene to initiate further actions.”
